It was actually a fun episode untill that ramdom sand monster decided to ramdomly show up, and yes, i know we were pretty much told he would appear at the very beginning, but still, no actual build up to it.
Other than that, i actually liked the episode, i think it was alredy time for them to have a Haruhiko centered main episode

Finally an episode where the focus is Haruhiko and Mai :D
I can't really say who is the best girl in this anime, since i really like Reina and Mai, but i probably would choose Mai <3
She was especially cute in this episode :3 I really loved seeing her having fun and taking care of Haruhiko. She enjoyed it so much, and that ending :( She realized that nothing of that happened and it was just his wish to spend a day like that, and he spent that day with her! <3

This was a surprisingly enjoyable episode, compared to the others. Nice to get more backstory on the character, even if not much.

And that shota doujinshi material.

I really loved this episode. It looks like Mai's maternal instincts really stirred being with Haruhiko. Not only that she really emphasized with him after learning about his life. It's sad that Haruhiko doesn't remember any of it though.

I havent read the LN, well, as far as i know it has no translation either official or fan translation, but i did got spoiled on that twist and i kind off wonder if they messed up the adaptation enough to make it seem out of nowhere, if it is foreshadowed in the novel or if it is seems to come out of nowhere in the novel too.
Well, only thing left to do is wait untill next week. But i seriously want a group to pick this up and translate since it looks just like the kind of thing i really want to read.

This episode kinda set it up if you look at how haruhiko's abilities work. I also hope the LN gets translated cause I would like to see how everything plays out from that twist

Ever since Episode 8, I have been enjoying every single episode.

Ep 1-8 -- I rated it around 7 because I enjoyed those episodes dedicated to Haruhiko and one of the girls. I do hate episode 8 and I don't need to state my reasons why.

Ep 9-Current -- I'm bumping up my score to 8 because I have been enjoying the current episodes of Phantom World. Something I never thought would happen.

This was a good episode I feel. It really refreshed the typical another phantom/another fight thing even though there was a phantom thrown in here. I guess I just have a thing for childhood skits. The fact that he didn't remember it and Mai was a tad sad made it that much more heart warming.

If only Haruhiko remembered anything, then this would consider as a development. Oh well, I guess one-sided is enough.

I don't think they'll adapt that twist at this point.
But the real question is...where are Haruhiko's parents? If you think about it, since they haven't explained it, they'll probably adapt the twist, from this POV

Not sure if it'll happen in the anime this season . This supposedly huge twist paves the way for the events of the 2nd volume , and right now the anime still hasn't reached volume 2 and there's 2 episodes remaining ...

ahhhh. a Haruhiko spotlight episode. So that's why he and Ruru weren't doing the intro in the beginning.

His past is sad, glad that he somehow experienced some good childhood with Mai, even if it's just for a short while. We even got to know more about Mai as well :)

bumped my score to 7. I hope the last episodes won't disappoint~

very enjoyable episode! I also thought there was an interesting somber undercurrent. Why did Mai have that flash of weakness in the park, then lose strength when fighting the sand phantom? I'm also thinking that odd piece of electronics hardware that Haruhiko has hung on to must have a role in his transformation. In fact, I've really wondered about the digital motif entrenched within so much of this show - the pixelization, and break titles

This episode and the one before it were really heartfelt, which makes me wonder about possible foreshadowing toward a very dramatic event.

Looks like the show has found some very good form now. After last week's Ruru-focused episode, we have Mai and a young Haruhiko as the main focus.

Seeing the two interact at first was very funny, but once they got along with each other, the two of them were almost inseparable. But alas, it wasn't meant to last long as the sandman phantom showed up and caught Mai, which gave Haruhiko the courage to grow back to normal and summon Cthulhu to destroy a pretty forgettable phantom.

Mai got some really nice character development throughout this episode and I'm sure that she'll make a great mother one day too! =D

The funniest part was when Ruru shoved a magazine full of babes into bikins into Haruhiko's hands and, after only just 2 pages, he couldn't handle the fanservice. If he were a little older and had a different personality, then Ruru's plan would've worked brilliantly! XD

Episode charming, self-contained as usual, nice and entertaining narrative. Although all episodes in its own right, the characters have had in their small a small evolution of character, Koito is a prime example. Drawings and animations, very good, do regret the fact that there is in this anime series a background story. Haruiko with that pajamas were so cute, oh my God!

Welp, this episode alone might have just bumped my score to a 6. The moments between Mai and Shotaruiko were genuinely charming, much better than whatever interactions they've had up until this point. Tbh I'm actually quite surprised by the amount of Haruhiko service that we got (even for a Haruiko-centered ep), especially given the target audience and the kind of fanservice this show is usually providing. But as some other users said, Kyoani finds a way, and I'm infinitely grateful for that.
There was a few stupid things here and there (like the sand phantom outta nowhere or Kurumi not recognizing Haruiko rite the fuck away or again, Kurumi answering Ruru's questions about how everyone was as kids when she is very much still a kid, herself), but other than that the episode managed to deliver some solid drama while maintaining its usual quirkiness.

So yeah, good job Musaigen.

Finally a good scenario and actual development for the characters..
The chibi Haruhiko is sooooo damn freaking cool dayo. Can he seriously get more adorable than this..?
Haruhiko and Mai spending some quality time together was so heartwarming.. Mai-senpai sooo sweet.
Considering how much I enjoyed this, it lets me disregard the previous fillers at least.
This made me have more expectation for the last 2 episodes.
I doubt it would stay true to the source though. :X

That... was not half bad.

This episode does a lot of unique exploration on Haruhiko's and Mai's character which, I have to say, I did not expect from this series.

HOWEVER, I still cannot overlook everything that's happened the past 10 weeks. If it is able to maintain this quality or more for the last 2 weeks, I might bump this to a 4.5.

I watched this series just like everyone else but I never got attached to it, well untill this EP. It was my only 5/5 episode. Mai was awesome and I hope Haruhiko was lying about not remembering to save face or protect Mai in some weird way.

Ending was pretty sad but you understand a lot more about the lonely childhoods they had. Really like this episode and I am now looking forward to next few episodes.

Hopefully Mai win, she looked great as a mom character.

A well-done episode. The entire show could as well be about shota Haru and nee-chan Mai, and not be boring. Just sayin.

Nice to see focus on Haruhiko for once, I feel like it's stupid when they have him take a backseat to fanservice. Also, kid Haruhiko is a cutie (not that he wasn't cute before, kyoani specializes in moe boys), I want to hug the hell out of him. And is that a smidgen of character development I see? Even if there's no cohesive plot, this episode invoked a lot of feelings, especially Mai's relationship with kid Haruhiko and Haruhiko's relationship with his parents being revealed.

The phantom was out of nowhere, but ended up being instrumental in reverting Haruhiko back to normal. That thing has a temper to get infuriated over a little cat pee... that had to be the biggest fuckery of the episode... feels.... enormous sand monster.... talk about random mood whiplash. Other than that, this was one of the best episodes yet, too bad there's only two left, they could've afforded to make more episodes like this....
