Hreoic Bsod for Reinhard
"If you tremble with indignation at every injustice, then you are a comrade of mine"

When the union's inspiration through the workers' blood shall run
There can be no power greater anywhere beneath the sun
Yet what force on earth is weaker than the feeble strength of one
For the Union makes us strong

Intense episode. I'm looking forward to what Kircheis' death is going to trigger. Wish they'd play more of that bgm though :3

On a side note: I think they are doing a formidable job at portraying Oberstein. He's such an excellent character.

It's sad to see Seig go since he was a great character, but it will help with Reinhard's character development. How will it help, I don't really know.

I was spoiled ahead of time that episode 26 was "sad" so I expected a character death. My thoughts were either Kircheis, Reinhard's sister, or Julian as all 3 would of had a major effect on either Reinhard or Yang.

Unfortunately the preview spoiled me that it was Kircheis. I definitely will not be watching those anymore. But even knowing what would happen it did not ruin the effect. I am definitely looking forward to how Reinhard will develop without Kircheis.

Oberstein's line about shadows & light was perfect.

I was expecting him to take the rocket blast for Reinhard, so when he dodged that I thought he was OK!
But man Kircheis got a Schwartz through the throat and the heart, didn't expect that cause of death.

I'm still on the fence about Oberweis (Oberstein), he is a calmly calculating dude. He makes decisions that reflect poorly on his morality and humanity, while talking about the greater good. He usually excuses loss of life if it gets Reinhard into power faster, or results in less deaths in the long run. Neither of which are evil motives. He seems loyal to Reinhard to a fault, whether it is an act or he is an Earth Cult spy I hope that develops quickly into plot.

If i were Reinhard I would have pulled out my laser and shot him in the head after the nuclear attack on the civilians was allowed to happen.

This is actually part of the reason I haven't completed this show. CAN'T GET OVER THIS. The other is how I got repeatedly spoiled on what will happen in episode 81 or 82. Damn it all.

Very intense episode. Just the staging of Kircheis' death was ridiculously animated.

Oberstein's line was very smart, and I believe that he advises Reinhard in a very cold yet super-effective way. You don't "win the universe" just by being nice and just.

Why do they give me these beautiful characters and then take them away from me?!
Because it's necessary to develop the story and the characters.
I still can't get over it though. It made me cry like a baby (I'm still crying).

Everything about this episode was beautifully made (the whole anime's been epic so far).

Oh and Oberstein, damn, that guy is so manipulative, I can't hate him, I love those kind of characters.

R.I.P. Kircheis ;__________;

And now on to season 2!

Great episode. The teaser from the last episode already spoiled the death for me but it was still a surprise, even more than the death of Jessica Edwards which seemed so futile. From one of the prequel movies I gathered there might have been something between her and Yang Wenli, at least a chance of a romance so I'm still wondering if she might be alive. Probably not.

It'll be interesting to see now if von Lohengramm will go even further on the road of power corrupting him. Certainly Oberstein is not a big help there. He's a great character, for the last few episodes he's been the one really taking the character development forward. I know he's not meant to be a likeable character so his ruthlessness doesn't matter. I totally didn't expect him to use the death of Kircheis as an excuse to get at Liechtenleid. It's appropriate that the Empire is used in the story to explore the problems and possible inevitability of realpolitik since Prussia seems to be one of the models.

Kircheis's death at the end of the first season reminded me of another 80s anime in which the direction changed afterwards (not going to put the name here even in spoilers, just in case).

The impact of Siegfried's death was dampened by the preview from last episode, but nonetheless...wow. For a couple days, I had been expecting a major death in the season finale, but had convinced myself that Siegfried and Julian were off-limits for the time being. Wow.

I was concerned when Reinhard consolidated the positions of all three military Chiefs of Staff into one, but now he's consolidating them into the position of Prime Minister on top of that. But I have trouble believing that Reinhard is going to be on top of that ladder for another 84 episodes; I'm interested to see what becomes of him.

To all the Oberstein haters: Did anyone notice how Oberstein wanted to protect Reinhard with his life from the incoming missle?

In the span of a second, he calculated that the odds of his own death while protecting Reinhard were smaller than the odds of not being able to advance his Machiavellian ambitions in the event of Reinhard's death. He's a manipulative bastard even when he's taking a missile to the face ^_^

Great episode. The way they directed the scene of Kircheis' death and Reinhard's reaction to was very, very powerful. Knowing how the rest of this series plays out, I can't help but wonder how different events would have played out had Kircheis survived.

Also:

Edit: Has anyone watched the 720p version? If so, what do you think of the edited scenes with different art sprinkled here and there? I noticed it a few episodes back during a conversation between Yang and Frederica, but they went crazy with it these last two episodes. I don't mind the artstyle, in fact it does a pretty good job of expressing the emotions of the characters. But, the way it's sort of half-assed thrown in here and there is kind of jarring.

Yet, LoGH is so damn good I don't really give a shit. Lesser shows, this probably would bother me more.

My motivation in this anime until this point was the complex conflicts of good and evil. Yang represents a force of good subordinated by a corrupt government. The same is seen with Reinhard as a force of good subordinated within the Empire. These two forces of good are made to battle each other amid their mutual respect for each other in submission to the wills of their rulers. This complex interplay of ambitions and morals served to make this show so beautiful until this point.

There is evidence to believe that Reinhard--absent the influence of Kircheis and consequently embittered--will now become a force of "evil" reflecting the Empire he has just overthrown. If that happens, the narrative, it seems to me, will be reduced to one of simply good vs evil; Yang vs. Reinhard; the holy light of democracy against the dark threat of despotism. In other words, shallow and trite. I will continue to watch because I have no concrete reasons to doubt the quality of the anime. I just felt like voicing my contemplations; partially in hope that someone will reassure me that the following 84 episodes will be just as good as their predecessors.

I wouldn't worry, itsjeremy6. LOGH does portray a few conflicts between good and evil, but they're typically minor and short-lived -- like Reinhard versus Braunschweig & co. in season 1. And even that had some greyness.

yea man, very weak security. Reminds me of JFK and Gandhi...you'd think they would have learnt from history, sheesh.

Not sure what you mean by ambience; I mean, if a death scene leaves me completely dumbfounded, nearly shell-shocked, ambience would be the last thing I'd care about.

Great ep, RIP Kircheis. I only hope that Reinhard's handpicked admirals will take over the role that Kircheis played in some small capacity. I still think Oberstein is up to something. I have a feeling he told Reinhard's sister something else besides Kircheis's death. Hence why she wanted to move away from Reinhard. Of course, I'm only speculating. Can't wait to start the next season. Also, more than likely giving this series a 10/10 but I don't rate until I finish a series (in most cases).

First time I have cried during an anime/manga since reading Elfen Lied, way back in February of 2011.

The timing of Kiricheis' death took my by surprise, he was a great character and I'm going to miss him.

This is also the first time in a while that I wasn't able to accurately predict someone's death, so kudos to that as well.

Not sure why the Allied forces were so happy with that little dispute. It looked to me like they lost quite a bit. Anyways can't wait to get back to seeing Reinhard v. Yang.

If I had one complaint though, it would be the fact that they seem to care about life, but then when Julian kills an entire ship (which has alot of people on it) they just go "wow! Good Job!" As if they actually don't care about killing people at all.

Yeah, I'm sure that's what that is.

I read nothing.

-blinks- He died? Just like that? What? Okay.

Oberstein is going to screw everyone over. I know it. Kircheis is gone now, so Reinhard has no restraint. And Oberstein sure as hell won't let this opportunity go to waste. I foresee the loss for the Empire already. Oberstein has already convinced the Admirals to follow his plans, and he'll be able to do it again. Reinhard seems rather cynical now. Full of distrust. I hope this is just a temporary phase.

I'm about neutral at this point, and I can say that I enjoyed the earlier episodes more (10-20 ish?). But I see lots of potential in the upcoming war. I want to see Yang vs. Reinhard pretty badly now. And I'm curious to see how this series will play out. So I'm sure I can enjoy the show very much from now onward, just not at this point.

Just a hunch, but Julian taking over Kirchei's position anybody? Think its a possibility? :O

I completed this show about a week ago or so and this absolutely improves as it goes along. By the time it ended I felt myself deeply attached to the characters. Well, most of them at any rate. Still missed Kircheis throughout but others certainly stepped up.
