How much pathos, we felt the feeling that in this episode, he played the fate of the anime series. If you manage to be "convincing" the words with deeds, will be a masterpiece. For now, everything seems to run smoothly.
A tad tricky storytelling, but it was not boring. A large slice of the history of the game has been revealed, but many questions now arise! Of course that Shiro has spent time playing! ASD
Drawings not great, only flaw of this series.

I don't think he is turning into one but IS one. My guess is that he is some NPC who wanted to become an Adventurer... or a spy from People of the Land.

That helps to explain why he's so hammy. He based his personality off what he thought adventurers were like, because he always wanted to be one. He's role playing as a role player. But if Rudy is a Lander and can join a party with adventurers, that means other Landers can join too. Like a certain lazy princess...

I hope Shiroe is just taking a little time to ruminate over what Regan told him. I'd like to see him reveal his knowledge to the full Council so that everyone can hear it (and so he only has to explain it once, lol)

Interesting theory.

Are you referring to the similarities of their HP bar? If so I wonder how did he managed to change his class.

The NPC were all "大地人" which means "Landers" while Rudy's class is "妖術師“ which direct translates to "Demon sorcerer".

If this help a bit, for NPC's their title/occupation is 'their way of life'. So them being a Lander would mean they're someone who lives with the land, so just a normal everyday person.

This has always been Mamare Tounos style. He favors world and character building to quick scene transitions that leave people to piece the puzzle together themselves. He lays the cards out freely and allows the audience ample time to digest the info. Then he proceeds to get to the climax and gives your adrenal glands their badly deserved shot. If you want a brisker pacing then I assure you this series (nor any series that comes from Mamare Touno) is not for you.

My theory about the "game" world the anime is set in is that it is real place found on a certain world or dimension. The creator of the game or other personalities might have found this world or dimension in which they integrated it into a game. The "creator" might have possessed the world-spells which he used to make the game. But what is his/her reasons for doing such a thing? I don't know yet.

Why is Isuzu an Adventurer while Rundel Haus is a Sorcerer on their game info?

Shouldn't be Isuzu a Bard? There's something weird here.

Here's the image: http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/594/s5cf.png/

I notice 3 anomalies with this screenshot:
1. Rudy's status box is green, like a Lander's. Adventurers have purple status boxes.
2. Rudy has "Sorcerer" after the slash, instead of "People of the Land" or "Adventurer", like everyone else we've seen so far.
3. Isuzu's status box is blue. We've already seen that Adventurers have purple, Landers have green, and Monsters have red. Is Isuzu something else, or is the blue colour just to indicate an Adventurer in the same party?
Maybe Rundel Haus is a Lander, but he's not any ordinary Lander. Maybe he's a Precursor? He seems to fit Shiroe's description of a Precursor, except that he doesn't appear to be a "legendary hero". O.o?

Yeah, I actually lol'd reading that. And I'm tempted to believe Precursors were alpha testers or characters the developers played with.

Didn't Shiro say Precursors were powerful NPCs?

Hm... So the 2nd World Fraction (arrival of Adventurers) in Elder Tale coincides with the release of the Elder Tale open beta on Earth. Is the 1st World Fraction supposed to correspond to an Earth event? Perhaps the start of game development? Works out as 5 years to develop the game to open beta stage, which seems like an upper limit for development time of a good game. Then again, how realistic is it to start developing an MMORPG in 1993?

I really enjoyed this information-heavy episode. We got some progress in not only the back-story, but also the way the wold/game functions and in-story, we see both sides forming a mutually educational alliance.

5/5 for me, and I might re-watch it soon.

Love how they categorized magic on a different scale as well, so awesome how much thinking went into this world creation. I appreciate "deep" worlds.

If it helps, this arc was written in two volumes. The first volume of the arc ends in episode 15, from 11 to 15 it was just a big build up.
From 16 to 20 we'll get to see something actually happening other than infodumping.

"This is still so much better than SAO can ever hope to be. And it keeps getting more and more entertaining to watch."

You forgot the "in my opinion".

In my opinion (see, not hard) it's the complete opposite. Compared to SAO, LH is boring as hell. I will continue watching because i am already more than half way through and i need to watch something until the second season of SAO. But seriously i am sick of meetings, a nerd with glasses acting all high and mighty, 1930920 explanations, Akatsuki calling him "lord" is not funny anymore, all that shit about NPCs. Seriously...

Piece of rubbish?

The animation and music are top of the line, the characters are nice, the time skipping was to fit in 25 episodes. If they knew the success would be so high they would have waited for more progression in light novels. But it doesn't matter, with New Aincrad we will be seeing all floors and areas, this time without rushing.

Crappy drama? Maybe if you don't get it.

I know SAO is not perfect but if anyone calls it rubbish or even gives it less than a 7/10 they simply can't comprehend it.

Let me clarify some things first chaps. And before anything else I'm a fan of both SAO and LH kay. For the time skipping in SAO this is because the novel it was adapted from (Volume 1 of the published novel volumes) was actually originally intended to be a contest piece for a one-shot novel competition w/ a VERY specific word count. It was virtually impossible for it to be that detailed just like w/ one shot mangas. Kawahara sensei didn't actually expect it to be that popular but he continued to update the story in the web version because of the encouragement of some fans. The problem was when it was finally taken up to be published they decided to go w/ the original one-shot instead of a revamp like w/ most serialized mangas or novels. Thus the time skips and awkward pacing. Sword Art Online: Progressive aims to correct that by detailing the events that took place over the 2 year period they spent in Aincrad such as the Laughing Coffin purge campaign.

W/ that said let me just throw in my opinions as well. SAO and LH may have nearly similar themes (online gaming) but the execution of the plot are worlds apart. SAO only uses the theme loosely while focusing more on Kirito and companies escapades. It may be blatantly obvious as a shounen series w/ an OP self insert main but the writing (for me) more than makes up for it. Not how creative Kawahara is but how he delivers the narrative. Plus Kiritos monologues and tsukkomis are amusing specially in later novels.

LH however comes from the great Mamare Touno. An absolutely phenomenal writer (in my opinion) when it comes to character and world building. Anyone who digs the socio-political and economic aspects as well as a meticulously painted world/setting will be in heaven. And I dig it my friends. I dig. Also LH conforms more w/ the old school MMO gaming template because it WAS based on them. Ever heard of Everquest? LH is not a VRMMO. It doesn't invent any new rules for game play except for a few things (adjustment from playing w/ a regular keyboard to being the one to actually fight and using voice command instead of hot keys for skills). Remember Elder Tales is a really old game (beta started way back in 98) that received constant updates to keep it popular and relatively fresh content-wise. Thus it hits all the retro buttons for us online gamers and makes us relive our glory days. SAO and .hack don't exactly evoke that sort of feeling cuz they try to introduce a new and unfamiliar play style (VRMMO gaming) w/c we can't get completely cuz we still haven't played any VR games yet.

I wont criticize you guys being hardliners for your respective series. But let's not turn this thread into a flame war if we can help it kay.

I love the time frame aspect and everything it added more depth to this story then Hack. but it doesn't overload on the draama that SAO paraded around. It is making its own mark on the MMORPG animes and has really stood out from what people expected to be an SAO carboncopy that wasn't as good. I thought this aswell and imagined the characters to be cliche from their artwork but this has surprised me as a series. However it could use a tad more action imo

Like what swordstriker said, LH and SAO share the same themes (online game + fantasy) but that's where the similarities end. These two are completely different series which shouldn't even be compared. Apples and oranges you know. Let's just try to expand our anime taste and get along yes?

how come some people are still asking how they're playing Elder Tale where as they're watching this anime since episode 1.

Naotsugu has clearly repeated it a lot of times in the early episodes how certainly it is hard to fight yourself than when just seeing your character in the monitor, where as you can't apprehend size, breath or smell in the monitor

my gad, how come they call what they're doing "watching anime"

sorry for the nagging but its really irritating to see others not paying attention to detail where as the anime is already bluntly telling you one

anyway, great episode, LH never ceases to establish itself

TAKE THAT SAO ANIME!!! you really need to learn the know-how from LH's director.

Joking aside, I don't really get why everybody has to bring up SAO. They are fundamentally different in themes and focus. LH feels more like a transported in an another fantasy world (which has MMORPG rules) more than stuck in a video game and trying to get out (or trying to get your girlfriend back).

Anyways, the whole Rudy thing is interesting, but I don't think they lost the memory of him saying that. Maybe... Everyone has a death quota? I dunno, just the scene of Rudy dying during the OP always keeps me guessing. Rudy's hilarious XD
