Nachotee said: But even putting that aside, you are obviously for some reason biased to not give this show a chance, the animation is just as good as many non-short shows airing, it's not terrific, but good enough. Do you even know in the first place what the style of the actual web-manga is? For me to give a chance to a show I need at least something that can appeal to me. OK, if the animation is not great, give me the humor. If the humor is not so good, I can do with decent animation. Sadly, Senyu has nothing for me in either case. There are at least three dozens of shows this season competing for my time. Why should I give it more chance if its first episode failed so utterly to appeal to me?
And as far as the actual web-manga goes, it may not fit with high quality animation and in fact I never expected it either. Still the quality of this animation is cheap compared to other short anime of this season, and the actual source material of many of those short anime does not have great art in it either.
Nachotee said: Most mangakas use SOL comedy as just a way to run away from real comedy. When an artist can't think of any good jokes, he justs inserts bland SOL segments with superficial romances or unnecesary fanservice, etc. There is a way to make good SOL comedy, like Azumanga, and minami-ke, and maybe even GJ-bu this season, but most fail miserably. A comedy should be comedy, the contents should serve so it can be funnier, the end of a joke should open the path for another joke. Well, to me I think this is not just for SOL. SOL has its kind of tropes and non-SOL comedy may just be using some other tropes to fill it for "real comedy", and here we have Senyu applying some common absurdist jokes drawn from game play or sex orientation etc, and to be honest I do not find it either fresh or funny.
Nachotee said: Now, yama no susume is definitely going for a more defined approach in the art, which reflects on the animation, so yes, you might say "it looks better". But that doesn't make it any better as a show. In the first place it's not even close to senyuu in any regard, except the fact that they are both short anime, so it makes no sense to compare them in the first place, since one is a comedy, while the other one is a SOL drama.
About mangirl, opinions. I can't even remember if there was supposed to be a joke in the first two episodes I watched, I certainly don't think I 've laughed while watching it. I always said that I compare Senyu with those two shows for its ANIMATION and this is where my comparison ends. However if you insist on comparing the humor in it, well I definitely find Yama no Susume to be a far superior show for short anime this season, be it on account of its warm and heartful humor and its contents or its physical production quality. As for Mangirl, at least I got some chuckles watching the show. All I got for Senyu were checking my watch and yawns.
Nachotee said: What I mean to say is, your opinion doesn't really make for a good OP post, not that it is particularly wrong. Yeah, it is not always a fan who started an episode discussion thread, is it? Personally I always try to see if I can enjoy a show from different angles or level, but I was really underwhelmed by this one. So underwhelmed that I just had to write about it right after I watched it. Shrug. |
