excellent manga. very dramatic and heavy, masterpiece 10/10 rating

in terms of the ending, im reading some of the previous responses and i think alot of you are missing something...

the fact is that they love the other person so much that they truly want what is best for them. they dont feel that they alone are enough, yet ironically, they are perfect for each other. only through each other can they grow, develop, and progress through life...i have zero doubt that they will continue their relationship and stay together.

i wish there were more manga like this, it was exceptional and manly tears were close to being shed during the confession about her backstory

I agree with restore, i just read the manga, and it felt like they got along well, and had good chemistry, they probably will have a decently long relationship. But staying together forever? hmmm maybe, honestly neither of them really know each other.

And frankly, none of us know them either.

This entire manga was centered around her being raped, him liking her but being scared, and the sister drama.

We have no clue what either of the characters are like outside of drama events. We don't know how well they do academically, what they want to do after they graduate(he wants a university for a bachelor life away from his mother). What their interests are, what type of humor they have(because frankly if it's all drama and seriousness one of them will leave for another person).

Honestly, this manga did end abruptly, i really think this manga coulda used at least another 20-30 chapters, to lengthen out the drama, add in some more characterization, and then show time together after they got together as a couple, or at least a ending where it shows them together/seperate after some years.

I think most of the drama was fairly spot on to how teenagers in these situations would behave. And even the complained about "guy at the end" is fairly realistic, if he had a crush on her, and felt like when he touched her he was hated like he was acid. It's more than likely it would have happened. It just came at a time that fit the flow of the manga too well.

It was a enjoyable read, and a nice break from more humourous manga, but in the end, it suffers from being too short, too little characterization, and too much of a ending that "tries to be thoughtful, but is just a let down"

I agree with most everybody. Sort of rushed and a little heavy on the fatalism/realism near the end, but its realistic. Open ended but i could imagine a good future.

Stillbirth and the rape flashback chapters were awesomely good, even though depressing, and the scene where Daisuke defended Aizawa from the pervert was also great. I liked that panel where she told him to stop whacking the pervert with the board or he would die, and Daisuke was crying. "Because of jerks like you!"

I'm glad i read this, and will recommend it even though its flawed.

"So, we'll end up not staying together anyway but until then it's fine."

What the hell? That's a horrible way to end this :/

My thoughts about all of this:
Well, at the beginning I thought this manga was a bit cheesy but it got better.

That psycho bitch was one of the worst characters I've seen in quite a while. And I don't mean "oh, she is so mean within the series" I mean actually a bad, not well written character.

The thing about his sister's birth not going well was expected with all of her having pain all the time. You can't even consider this foreshadowing anymore, she might as well have had a sign over her head saying "I and/or my baby will end up dead". Unexpectedly when it happened, it moved me.

So overall most of it was very predictable. But I would be lying if I'd say I didn't like it. Sure it was by no means flawless but I think it delivered the emotions quite well. Gets a 7/10 from me. Would give 7.5 if it was possible. Decent read.

I thought overall it was a good read but the ending... damn, just ruined it! In the last FEW pages they said that they wouldn't stay together and eventually find someone else! But besides the ending I liked it though the ending sucked... 9/10

A true realist ending, though still a happy one. I think they have what it takes to make it through the hard times and he just isn't giving himself enough credit when he says a better man will come one day.

I'm so glad that I decided to pick up this manga. rated this 10/10, definitely a masterpiece.

It had such a really good story, I haven't read anything quite like it before. The story revolved on a such a serious issue, It showed that things like this do happen in reality. It's such a nice break from the typical romance manga I read.

I just think that the ending could've been better. Stretching it out into several more chapters might've fixed it but still, I think the overall story was really good.

I thought the ending was just fine. It ended with finishing the plot of the story. Tho the part with the other 2 girls was unneeded. But again it ended with the finishing of the romance of the 2 leads.

I do want to know what the mother would have to say and the sister would have to say about the whole secret.

Great story, very serious plot. 8/10

I'm happy that ending didn't break my heart more than it already was but I was expecting more dramatic ending. Something like:

"Ibuse got angry and killed Aikawa then Daisuke killed her for killing Aikawa and then killed himself because he couldn't stand living without Aikawa and with being a murderer. Then Yuzu killed herself after she found out that Daisuke is dead. THE END"

I agree with most of the people here. The ending was underwhelming in comparison to the series. The series had so much tension and dramatic buildup, but the ending fell flat. If it weren't for the heart-pumping drama in all the previous chapters, I would've given this a much lower score.

I was a 10 until the anticlimatic ending took 4 points off the final score. When two people go against the wind like that you expect much more closure, not a "let's date until it last" ending. I didn't have many emotional reads like this one and the ending made me cringe, I was like "huh?"

It was a very tragic story because of her past but somehow sweet after the guy started to protect her without her knowing.

I agree the story has a kinda plain ending but after all thru drama that happened its kinda nice to have a plain ending without more drama :-)

Its really sad the bad things that can happen in life. To read this is kind of story helps people understand how they feel or least their point to view
And emotional usually i don't read this kind of stories cause i tend to read manga to make me happy but this was very different and kinda me me think... Sometimes we take things for granted... I should read more slice of life stories but not too many or ill become too sad and will think too much :-P

Hmm, that ending was sort of predictable although it was neither happy or sad imo. I guess it does lean somewhat into the happy side as the two finally kiss and all that.

Not a bad manga imo with no ecchi but more focused on extensive drama and more mature topics. 7/10 for me. :)

I really liked this one... from start to very ending.
(Ending was little.. umm lets say boring, not bad just little boring from normal romance manga.)

Damn that psychobitch Kazuki was annoing, but also Yuzu become annoing in later chapters.
(As later we known, she was addicted to love)

"People show their true colors when something goes wrong as they planned."
Good quote, fits to this manga also.

I liked the ending too but i don't think that last bit is negative cause the truth is even thought theuy're dealing with some weighty stuff they are still kids but them thinking how they are is the sign that they will be together. You want them thinking seriously instead of pie in the sky type ending when this manga has been so painfully realistic. 10/10 for me eventhought i still wish i had never heard of it. Way to tragic. even just one page would have been great. one panel in the delivery room brand new baby. Grand ma, sister with her husband and a kid and also looking pregnant, and the i just won the medal of honor look on an older daisuki face.

Although the ending left me be a bit unsatisfied, it was supposed to be a lot more realistic i guess, since this series was suppose to somewhat reflect on the author. Overall I loved this series and it sure brought out a lot of emotions. Also what I think the ending meant that althought Aika fell inlove with Daisuke doesn't necessarily mean they'll last forever but that he guides from her onto moving on from the past.... Bitter Sweet ending...

This is indeed my favorite manga and also I was able to relate..... 10/10

9/10 because of some things that have been bugging me for a long time.Im too tired to name them all but for example the inconsistent personality of Kanzaki or whatever.I mean she developed a little yeah but her personality was so inconsistent and we didn't even learn what they meant that she was hurt badly.Daisuke just letting that guy pass,Aikawa not telling anybody about what Kanzaki said ( "Serves the bitch" after Izumi lost her baby) etc etc
Im just frustrated because it could have been perfect.

I agree... I mean, it is true that they may not end up together in the future, but you don´t start going out with somebody already thinking that you will eventually break up... well, you may, if it´s just to have fun, and you don´t really care... but not if you start going out in such circumstances as the one in the manga. Their reasoning didn´t sound credible to me. It would have been different if that last coment had been made by his sister, or if they had "wondered" about their future or lack thereof, instead of being so "sure" thay they would separate sometime.

Everything would have been different if instead of thinking:
"Certainly the day will come when the two of us must part."

They had thought:
Will the day come when we two must part?

That would have been much more credible.

This manga had the idea of a romance with bucket full of realism. Since every part of the manga when it shows Daisuke reaction to Hinakos reaction, I can sort of feel what the guy was feeling(Never happen to me before, just an expression). That great in my book, Yeah! .

The ending I feel was perfect for me, since it pretty much portrays a real life response from both side, though on the guy perspective at least her grew confidence to push his feelings all the way, even though there's that negative connotation from Hinako, it's given since the event's isn't something that be overcome in one day. Now on the guy's side, even when he heard that he chose to stay and take those steps to hopefully a "healthy" relationship.

Like anything in life, if we are given a chance on something or on someone, no matter the circumstance. Might as well take it for what it's worth and build on that, or short leave with something, it better then nothing.

I think the ending suited the manga overall.
Unless you have experienced something like this yourself, you will most likely see the ending as sub par.
It's hard to put into words but if you have ever been apart of a relationship in which some bad has happened in the past and there is no way to escape it, it will always end. There is no other way.
It's something that will always be with Aikawa, at the end of a long day, when she see others men etc it will always be there no matter what.
If this manga had of ended in a sweet cute romance way I believe everyone would of complained about not fitting the dark theme of this manga.
Truly this manga has changed me so much, I never used to take much notice or anything when I heard about girls getting raped but now it makes me so sick I can't bare it.

A beautiful heartbreaking manga.

The ending was... Okay. It could've used more build-up besides pulling out the random guy from chapter 1 again. While I would've liked the message the last two pages gave if it concentrated on it previously in the series, as it was it came out of nowhere and just tried to put a downer on a happy ending. Good manga though.

This manga was good.. but it had its eye-roll moments. It felt on the verge of melodrama all the way throughout. Most of the drama wasn't really character driven, but more circumstance driven. That can be effective if used sparingly, but if its used for almost EVERY development in a story, it just becomes implausible.

The ending was a little bit unsatisfying. But, overall an enjoyable read. 7/10

Nothing bad happened between them. Do you mean that an abused person will never be able to overcome what happened and build a future for herself or himself? Do you think it works like that for everyone? Because you are very categorical with your statement.
But the world is full of examples on the contrary, fortunately.

Absolutely agree with Rey_Keys opinion on the circumstance driven-on the verge of melodrama plot.

For such deep subject matter, I was kind of put off by how naive and innocent the romance was at times. Getting excited over indirect kisses? Thinking that smashing your faces together as you're falling down counts as a kiss? Is this middle school?

Art was kind of bad too. Range of expression felt limited and there were a lot of poses and angles that just looked weird.
And then there's the lack of character depth and plot conveniences and dramatization problems that other people already covered.

I really liked the heartfelt message about mother/child relationships though, and tbh I was more saddened by Izumi's stillbirth than Aikawa's traumatic backstory.

I'm a bit dissapointed how the manga ended it's not like I don't understand that the author wanted to make it more realistic but I don't know .. both of them think that there is someone better for the other person and that they won't be together forever and I think that's a really pessimistic point of view for starting a relationship

Oh man, this ending felt like that drunk Russian guy jumping in a frozen pool. Except the guy was me, I was like "omg it's so cute" but then the fatalism and pessimism of basically EVERYONE (the four of them) kind of made me mad. I guess different cultures, different beliefs; the eastern cultures have always been very strict with family business. If you are a gueisha, it will be impossible to marry. The gueishas have to quit their profession in order to marry. But wake up Daisuke and Aikawa! Don't you guys know what eloping is! Fight for your love! Damn Daisukes mother or the sick society!
They be like:
Daisuke: "Oh Hai,we're deeply in love but she deserves someone better. I'm just guarding her, I'm not worthy of her."
Aikawa:" I love him so much and he's the only one I can marry. But I will fuck up along the way. " Lmao what is this nonsense!
It feels like an amateur left hook, a cheap tragic ending. It's okay if it's implied that they will fight and overcome their issues but they don't look like they will!

These last four chapter were "meh", while the first twenty were "Oh this is good." 6 for the ending, 8 for the series. I rate realistic endings higher than normal because of the realism.

most realistic ending for such a theme

this page can be interpret both ways, like we do in relationship in real life
whether you can get along with each other until death do us part, or we find some one better

for the case of these two,
if they want to stay together, they just gotta to be better person for each other's sake. Daisuke need to be more mature for Hinako, and in return, Hinako need to be cheerful for Daisuke
if for some reason or another one of them obviously found someone better and/or more suited for him/her, it was the right choice to break up since if you loved someone, you just want that person to be happy, no matter who he/she will end up with

just like we all should do in real relationship

I won't say anything new: Something was missing at the end.
Maybe I'm tired of rushed endings or its the paradox of last few chapters, in which we can see clear message "I LOVE YOU NO MATTER WHAT" and than allowing in thoughts possibility that the time will come when We have to split up, but more likely its the problem of the open ending(we are together but we dont know what the future holds). Whatever it is that's missing, It leaves a bad aftertaste at the end of a damn fine manga like This.
And about "realism", I think Aikawas thoughts(taking into account her backstory and that Suwa is the only guy she is not afraid of) would be more: "I know it might be selfish, but I hope We will always be together".

But what do I know, I'm just a guy.

Actually, I think people might be taking it all a bit too literally. I think they both in the end feared that they would end up breaking up, and that many things might happen to tear them apart but, it's important to note that they felt that they themselves might not be good enough for their partner, as opposed to them thinking they were too good for their partners. Thus, breaking up is not something they're going to do unless a third party steals one of them away and to be honest, I don't see that being close to possible given their feelings for one another. I also think that his family would more console her and cherish her than throw her away, given the pain that occured to the big sister.

I think they lived a happy life after all, yet both gave their own rather mature thoughts about how relationships might work.
