| I don't really know what to say about the ships that dissolved, they seemed to have been released or something (from their suffering). I mean if you think about it, a sunk ship sits there and is forgotten, all it can do is regret. nDroae said: I meant respawn delay could be relative, not necessarily ones beyond salvation... | @GenesisAria Oh, okay, that could work too. Suddenly 50 girls show up in season 2.... I figure it would be a problem to add a ship girl for every abyssal sunk because they don't want that many in the fleet in the anime (although there are many more in the game), but there are ways around that. Most of them could be in serious need of therapy and in no condition to fight for the remainder of the war. Or there could be some higher bureaucracy taking them away to fight in the atlantic theatre. That sounds great :) I've hardly played games at all the past couple of years, and didn't play many before that. Medieval: Total War is my favorite strategy game. I've also only played the first one, although I own the second. :D Oh, and not RTS but I was really into Alpha Centauri. I know there've been some SMAC-inspired games lately that I ought to check out. |

| Given that only Akagi had memories of Midway, I wouldn't put too much stock in only Kaga having memories of being an Abyssal. As for changing back into a Fleet Girl, I suspect the motivation felt when being sunk as an Abyssal might have something to do with it: if they curse the one who sunk them, they're locked into an endless cycle of Abyssal reincarnation; Kaga might have fallen to her fleet mates, which could give her a desire to fight alongside them again instead. Kisaragi's cheap resurrection would likely be via the same mechanism, just without being sunk first. |
| really enjoyed watching this and we got to learn more about quite a few things but now i am wanting more and the next season needs to hurry the hell up plus i should stop being lazy and get back to the game at some point as it's been months since i played. |

This movie is awesome, i've been waiting for the BD so long, i absolutely love it, every part of it.The battle animation is really intense (especially the planes sound and yamato's cannons). the story is satisfying and explains how the abbysals exist.The ending is touching, but it kinda ruins it when kisaragi came back in the ending. But, hey it adds more touching moments (and i like to see cute girls smile ^^). I hope there will be a new movie or a new season soon. |

| Better than the main series. It had less comedy and more psychology especially in the latter half. Felt like the first 20 minutes of this movie immediately got me hooked. |

| That was...unexpectedly heavy. The thing I like about Kancolle are the theories and guesswork as to what the shipgirls are, what the Abyssals are, and what the whole war is even about. This movie helped to shed some canon light on it all while still leaving a lot of things to guessing. And, I must say, this film was a pleasant surprise for other reasons as well. First, I'm glad to see the Mutsuki and Kisaragi bit get some closure, as well as a form of a continuation since Kisaragi was brought back. Granted, it does, in some ways, invalidate the drama built up between the television show and the majority of this film around Kisaragi's sinking, but it was a cool way to visually show how the shipgirls turn into Abyssals and vice versa. It made for a few poignant scenes which I definitely appreciated. I'd like to point out the night scene between Kaga, Akagi, Fubuki and Mutsuki where the flashing lighting was actually pretty cool, though it could be considered a bit distracting. Second, holy crap the combined fleets were awesome. It's great seeing it animated, and I'm surprised that it wasn't as chaotic as I was expecting. Since there were a lot of ships sortieing, I thought it would be a battle for screentime with all the characters shouting their one liners from the game, but it was handled really well. Everyone got there little bit to show up, and they did so by adding information to the current situation. There were a few game mechanics thrown in along the way, such as the Star Shells being awesome and the Searchlights being horrifically double-edged. There was also what could be considered flagship protection when Yamato took that one hit for Fubuki. Though, speaking of damaged ships, ship escorts should have been handled by Destroyers, but I'm fine with how the anime took its liberties. Third, I know that being a film, it probably has a lot more budget and manpower, but goodness the film visually looks great. The CGI was fairly limited and used pretty well in hectic moments and faraway shots, allowing for 2D art and animation to take center stage. Also, while the TV series got a bit into existentialism, this film goes even further with Fubuki's descent into hell. I would have never associated blood red visuals with silhouettes of shipgirls sinking all over with Kancolle, but now I can. This film manages to be pretty creepy when it wants to be, and there were certain moments where I was actually worried for the characters. I mean, wow they got the crap blown out of them. Lastly, I want to repeat how creepy this film was at moments. More so, it certainly knows how to inspire dread in its viewers, at least for a person who has played Kancolle for a while. I physically flinched every time Battleship Princess was on screen, and every time someone flashed their Searchlight I drew back with fear. In a series where permanent death is a core mechanic, little moments like those really hit home. I still have trauma from Battleship Summer Princess from the Summer 2016 event trying to find Prinz Eugen. Holy crap that was a lot of sorties. But yeah, uh, I liked this film. The conflict was solved a bit too quickly at the end, and I'm still not 100% sure as to why Fubuki was the solution despite the explanation of her being the hope of the fleet, but I at least enjoyed everything else. That, and I'm always happy to see more ships get animated and highlighted. |

The implications of the concept are astronomical and really hammers down questioning what the morality in any of this even is. Listening quietly to the displacement of water beneath their hydrofoil boots, or lapping at the shores, leaving space for the ominous siren call of Fubuki's alter ego. What a ride this was, bravo. Solid 9/10 You could not choose a scene more apt than that, I agree with you. |

| Enjoyed watching the movie today. Watched it twice. Kisaragi-chan and Mutsuki-chan, their situation really stood out for me. Glad it ended well. |
| Finally got around to watching the movie. Been putting it off since the anime left a really bad taste in my mouth with how godawful they handled the Kisaragi plot. But damn did the movie diddle me in my historian bits. Since everyone else has already touched on the plot and more or less how this was vastly superior to the anime I'll just focus on the historical references as the KC fanbase is filled with other armchair historians, but I will say I really liked Kaga's part in the movie. That was a really cool thing. The near perfect recreation of the Battle of Savo Island put a huge grin on my face even going as far as putting the detail of the Abyssal destroyer doing its usual patrol and just barely missing as the Mikawa Fleet entered the bay. And then the fact all the ships were stationed at Shortland Island. O O F, they're really throwing the history buffs a bone with this movie. And then even further with the tie in to: Even the fights themselves had nods to the Battle of Guadalcanal with: I'm hype for S2 now. Hopefully they don't fuck it up like they did S1 so that I can enjoy some Nishimura Fleet and overall Leyte Gulf references. |
| Damn, son. This was a good one. From the perspective of someone who's also a self-proclaimed WWII military history buff, especially the Pacific War, I loved the many references to history here. The first battle scene was definitely a reference to the 1942 Battle of Savo Island! (minus the USN and replaced by Abyssals, of course) As soon as I saw the complete lineup of admiral Gunichi Mikawa's fleet of heavy cruisers (Choukai as flagship and the 4 Furutaka/Aoba-class CA + Tenryuu CL) and that it was a night battle with flares, it had to be that one. They even had the detail where one of Choukai's turrets was hit and damaged in the battle (it really happened). The key difference is that in this scene they attacked the transports at the end of the battle - another reference to how in real life admiral Mikawa's fleet turned back before reaching the transports; this would be known postwar as a critical strategic error by the IJN and saved the vulnerable US forces landing early on in Guadalcanal island. It seems rather curious to me that they would use the name Ironbottom Sound here when I'm pretty sure it was a name that was given to that body of water near Guadalcanal later in the war, and by USN sailors at that. I doubt the Japanese knew that name until after the war. Nevertheless, that was another small reference. A little anachronistic is how they have late-war A7M Reppuu fighters in what seems to be mid-1942, but I guess this is a game reference - even the oldest carrier can carry the newest planes in-game. The next big reference I remember is during the sortie to Ironbottom Sound, in the scene where Hiei and Kirishima was sent there with others to attack at night. This is a clear reference to the Naval Battle(s) of Guadalcanal. In real life, those 2 BBs were indeed sent to attack at night, and both ships ultimately sank there in separate close-range night battle sorties (not in this anime, of course). There was even this detail in that scene where they had to deal with two new enemy battleships - those definitely had to be Abyssal stand-in references to the new (in 1942) US battleships South Dakota and Washington. In these battles IRL, Hiei and Kirishima were older BBs equipped with inferior 14in. caliber guns vs those two new USN BBs with 16in. guns - in this anime they added Yamato as backup; as a reference to how Kirishima was outgunned IRL by the 2 BBs, and the IJN would have won like in the anime if Yamato with her unmatched 18in. guns were there. (Nagato and Mutsu with 16" cals would be enough to match, but why match when one can outright win?). Curiously, the movie had key references to Fubuki being sunk - it's true IRL, Fubuki sank near Guadalcanal in the waters of Ironbottom Sound during the Battle of Cape Esperance. She is one of the shipwrecks resting on the seabed there. The thing about sinking as kanmusu and reviving as Abyssals and vice versa - this is most likely a reference to the game itself, where one can get new shipgirls at the end of battles after having sunk Abyssals to clear missions. I don't know what exactly happened in between the TV anime and this movie, but the movie implies that Fubuki had undergone this cycle before (in an incomplete manner) - same with Kaga and later, Kisaragi. This movie was a bit creepy at times as well, and it was psychologically uneasy to learn Abyssals are essentially undead shipgirls. It's like a certain magical girl show out there all over again... it had significant drama too. Fortunately there's more than enough action to balance these other elements. I'm not so sure about how the mysterious hole in the sea was left unexplained, but perhaps this was in the game and I simply haven't played far enough (currently starting World-3) or maybe it was an event. The movie was emotional at times, but that wasn't bad at all. I saw the BD version, so the art was nice. Overall, excellent for someone who both loves anime and WWII military history. |

| Great movie. I had the suspicion, that the Fleet Girls and the Abyssals have a closer relation as originally known from the start. They managed to incorporate the fact into the story in a good way. The part with Fubuki and her other self was good too. She wouldn't let that be the end of it. All's well that ends well. |

| First of all - I have never played that game. So please keep that in mind. After watching Season 1 I was not expecting much of the movie, but considering I was invested in the story (well up to the end, which was kind of weird) and enjoyed the battles being a lot more actionpacked I have to give tihs one 2 points more than the 1st season, which is a 8. The story is still not the greatest, but considering it picked up a few points from the first season and gave them a payoff, I am not even mad. Not too hot on that chosen thing tho. |

| Better than most of KanColle Season 1 with a much better final as well. Barely any Shimakaze but Amatsukaze appeared in animation at least, nice. But She didn't have any action aside from talk scenes. So that's what happened with Kisaragi, wondered where they would go with the cliffhanger at the end of Season 1. After disappearing into light in the final it is shown after the credits that Kisaragi is just back?! Ok i guess. Better than stretching things out or waste time in Season 2. Liked the action of the battles in the end. Yuudachi got some cool action scenes too Poi Poi ! Abyssal Fubuki looked great, maybe could have used some more screen time but her point was delivered. This movie had a decent amount of Yuudachi. No Shigure yet though! Season 2 better deliver together with ShimAtsukaze, Re-Class and a few other Shipgirls. |

| 35:11 Shoukaku in both Azur Lane & Kancolle is so my type! Both also have delicious boobies! 1:02:08 That was so awesome! Yamato is so beautiful! I wish Yamato were able to engage another battleship in real life. Yamato became hotter the more she got damaged. I love her long hair. This is one of the best fanservice movies I've seen. Thanks to its high budget, the animation is so good! All the Kanmusu were so beautiful, especially Kongou, Yamato, Shoukaku, and Haruna. The naval combat scenes were so good! The sound & visual effects, plus those sexy shipgirls doing their thing, gave me goosebumps! As for the plot, I like how mysterious it was at the beginning. However, due to the runtime, it got rushed and felt incomplete at the end. 8/10 |
| Very emotional movie, and the final scene with Kisaragi's resurrection and her reunion with Mutsuki is so wholesome, it gives a final sweet feeling after all the action and the drama. Fubuki's role in all the story is also very emotional, great movie. |
