I was wondering if the wife will...

... eventually die like when he was looping, showing them they just can't change destiny

... manage to survive and get out of the loop (having a similar talk to Ginko idk).

... become one with the mushi.

Fantastic use of the time-loop concept. I don't really have much to say about this one honestly. It's not one of my favorite but it's still a pretty awesome episode.

Damn ... what a beautiful episode.
This story grabbed me the most out all the Zoku Shou stories so far.
Maybe it was a bit predictable but that didnt change how great it was portrayed.

I wonder if Kaoru is actually trapped now (the one who went into the cave with Iku) and "current" Iku is actually going to experience the whole thing.

Cool, he was able to get out of the time loop :D Though it would be terrible if something were to happen to his wife right after getting out of the loop *wife dies* WELL SHIT ಠ_ಠ

Why do you have to play with my feels like that? ;_;

I.LOVE.MUSHISHI. this is so beautiful. the part where he hug his wife is so romantic and the ending....well i don't think it's sad ending because kaoru have a good life to repeat well atleast until his wife fell i find it quite romantic. i would do the same if i was him, he just don't wan't his wife to die the wife that he love so much for who knows how many decades.

Too predictable of an episode, and not much happened anyway.

But it is essentially Mushishi right?

That kid of Kaoru's dad's subordinate was an asshole for draining all that sake over a simple grudge. But I guess that was more than enough of a reason for him to do so.

If you're going to call that kid an asshole then Kaoru was a spoiled asshole for trying to order him around like his servant after seeing how his own father berated that kids' dad. Kaoru was also an asshole for blaming that kid for that broken vase or whatever that thing was and getting him in trouble with his dad. Kaoru's dad was an asshole for berating that other kid's dad in front of the kid. Kaoru's mom was an asshole for turning a blind eye to it and only concerning herself with shielding her son. That kid's dad was also a prick for siding with Kaoru out of fear of his own boss.

It's easy to see why a kid would act out like that to spite the people who treated him unfairly. I'm not even justifying what he did but there's plenty of asshole labeling to go around in this episode. I only felt bad for the people who were affected by his actions despite doing no wrong.

First Mushishi episode I've decided to comment on and easily one of my favorites. The themes of regret and wishing that one can make up for past mistakes are quite poignant, as is Kaoru's decision to sacrifice his future in exchange for being with his love in an endless cycle.

What's left unspoken is the fact that every time that Kaoru entered the tunnel and relived his life, it is implied that Iku went on with hers without ever knowing what happened to her husband. So for every time that his life repeated itself, Iku was also condemned to experiencing losing him and having no idea what happened to him. That is, of course, until he brings her with him, condemning both of them to an eternal, blissful nightmare.

Beautiful episode, albeit also quite sad.

Okay I happen to have some questions about this. It's been explained that this guy was trapped in a time loop but this would actually happen in his mind only so what happened to his real physical body meanwhile. They should have explained it a little further. Nonetheless an interesting episode.

Again, another episode where the feels hit harder since I already knew what was going to happen ;_;

Still, I wonder if they'll break out of the loop this time since his wife was taken through the tunnel with him or if it'll just fall back to the first time the husband found the tunnel and continue this endless cycle.

Ah man, love is blind. Now they are involved an entirely new time loop. And this one might progress with the woman remembering something and both of them discussing it with Ginko. This really needs a sequel, it holds so many possibilities. Ginko might get involved in the time loop tho. Like. I will make sure to come here 20-30 years later to remind you guys (whenever the cave scene happens) and this time Ginko ends up entering it, too one way or another, so the time loop gets even more complicated. Just a supposition tho. I doubt Ginko would let that happen. Knowing how wise he is, he would probably be able to land off a good warning after enough time loops happen. This needs a more of a "moving onward" type of proper ending tho. In the end, the man and his wife are stuck in a beautiful nightmare and can't even begin their next life.

I am just sad to think of Ginko as an old man tho... I don't want him to turn old or die... I don't want his adventures to end ever. But at the same time, "all good things must end so that they have a meaning" holds true as well. Still, he's a symbol of eternal youth for me. Somehow, he started seeming like that as I watched the series on and on. Maybe it's because he helps so many people and makes them realize the worth of their life? Can't say why for real but yeah.

I think that was the most unsettling episode so far.

Btw. this loop is flawed now that I think about it: it was Kaoru who carried her inside, but in her loop we see it's her who stops because of flowers smell. That means he won't be aware of loop and won't talk to Ginko. Question is if he will enter cave now that the smell isn't anything special for him - probably yes, because his "real" loops started after all. This way everything will reset to the very beginning, which shouldn't be possible if he "became one" with that mushi.

Words start slipping away when discussing Mushishi. The atmosphere around this episode was one of a bittersweet melancholy, creating this sort of surreal ambiance that glues your mind to what's on screen, even if there's nothing much happening. The moody stories and felt notes just takes a hold of you.

Mushishi is the perfect episodic anime series.

The same theme addressed in the previous season returns in episode nine: how much are we willing to sacrifice for the sake of those we love? Here, however, the narrative has a more bitter and melancholic ending despite the previous episode. Ginko stays at the window again this time. Quite enjoyable narration, although it is not very engaging.

Awww ;A; but since he went into the loop after his wife died, doesn't that mean he has to relive her death? D:> I hope not, but still... that's the new ending point of the loop unless he goes into the cave before coming home like all those previous times </3

eeeeeee nope nope nope sooo much nope. That episode was horrifying. I myself don't sit very well when it comes to horror, but psychological horror. Oh thats on another level. The thought that your actually repeating your life over and over again up to a certain point in your past life where in something caused you to suddenly go brain dead/decease, or a completely different event occurs due to changes in the current one that you didn't do in the past all scares the shit outta me.
Also does this episode potentially confirm the existence of a parallel universe within the Mushishi world? Like what we saw with him actually explaining to Ginko his deja vu problem did that potentially branch off a new timeline?
anyways, in my opinion if i was in his position at the end, i would not have gone through the cave again. Like Ginko said at the end of the day, its a Mushi it feeds off you and by going in WITH his wife he's piratically looping someone into hell as well and just giving the Mushi an extra meal potentially. Ahhhh i would also say, it really wasn't worth it. I understand due to the death of his wife but it was kinda enviable then if that was the route that was gonna happen if he decided not to pass through the tunnel. Also there's no way he could just keep repeating the loop to save his wife and get the happiest ending cus Ginko said the Mushi will eventually consume/he will become it.
all in all this episode now gives me the creeps every time i have deja vu now.

Well this was a real beauty, a mix of terrifying, peaceful and beautiful is what made this episode so interesting to watch. The mushi itself is one of the best ones because of its ability to force person to continue doing same things over and over again.

This episode has my head in knots but in the best ways! So.
Iku (wife) is fatally wounded so Kaoru exposes her to the mushi thus placing her in her own time loop; however, in order to have been exposed, Kaoru (husband) had to break through his time loop first.

As to be assumed, upon entering the cave once more, Kaoru became one with the mushi.

What does that mean for his consciousness? If Iku were to ever break her cycle and return to present day, would Kaoru be there? Most importantly, how could she even go about breaking her cycle if Kaoru technically no longer exists to expose her and initiate her time loop? Or since she entered the cave close to death, did she become one with the mushi as well and I am just thinking too far into it?

I had already fell in love with this show once before however this episode tripped me yet again ♥️👄♥️
