I've watched anime with 95/100 of these characters.
The ones I'm unfamiliar with (haven't seen the anime they're from):
The ones I love are:
The ones I like are:
The ones I have neutral/mixed feelings for:
The ones I dislike are:
Commentary
Guts: my opinion most likely would have changed for the better if 1997 adaptation was animated further.
AoT:
- S4 soured my opinion on most members of the Scout Regiment, whereas the ending ruined Eren.
Emilia: never managed to connect with her on a personal level.
Rem:
had potential, but the author decided to put her in coma because Emilia needed that handicap to compete with her.
Megumin: weakest konosuba girl.
Gojo Satoru: so far feels like a discount version of Kakashi, but it is possible my opinion could change depending on the future developments in JJK.
Makima: before the anime aired, was very intrigued by her, but my expectations weren't met; hope to see more of her in the continuation of the CSM story.
Since I'm delinquent-pilled, Onizuka Eikichi gets my vote. The others, barely know 'em or just don't care about 'em, since I'm not even in the double digits for top-100 anime in terms of what I've watched.
Opinions are opinions, and differing opinions can co-exist. 🙂 But I don't do debate, life's too short to spend time debating people.
A lot of characters I enjoy on this list. Along with a lot of characters I've never met.
To cherry pick some that I like:
Araragi Koyomi
Itsuki Nakano
Spike Spiegel
Yuno Gasai - Crazy
Yukino Yukinoshita
Kazuma Satou
Thorfinn
Yeah not much negativity from me on this one. I enjoy a majority of the characters that I am aware of on this list. There are a couple that I have mixed feelings for but nothing that is really worth mentioning. It mostly has to do with me not really enjoying the anime more than not liking the characters.
The ones I know just by many things such as knowing them cause I've seen their arts/avatars other, by watching anime having them or by memes etc.:
Maybe instead I will try to list the characters I don't know as writing many characters I am too lazy right now to do that:
Law and Takumi, those are the only characters I am not that familiar.
I know all of them even if I haven't watched their respective anime. Don't really feel like yapping today, so I'll just say that's it's nice to see the og waifu Holo again.
I know all of them even though a decent portion I haven't watched their respective anime, I am very very tired though and just wanna nom on some strawberries so I won't be giving my opinion on who I like or dislike :)

I watched series of 43 characters from the top 100. Many are from the same series.
There is only Homura Akemi of my favorites.
Then there are some that I like, Kaori Miyazono, Taiga Aisaka... Power because she hates people and likes kittens.
But there are a lot of characters that seem terrible to me.
The "undeveloped" Edward Elric. Light Yagami (?). The "nonsense" of Johan Liebert. The boring Emilia.
Familiar with 98/100. Only two not familiar to me are Date A Live's Kurumi Torisaki and Disastrous Life of Saiki K's Kusuo Saiki due to lack of exposure to any of the titles in question.
Far as favorites and least favorites go:
Favorites
1. Guts (Berserk) -Longtime favorite for his badass feats in Berserk and having more to his character besides being a bloodthirsty, revenge-seeking brute.
2. Spike Spiegel (Cowboy Bebop) - Longtime favorite for his carefree, easygoing personality and his character development dealing with his criminal past.
3. Mai Sakurajima (Bunny Girl Senpai) - Among my favorite female characters from recent anime titles due to her personality and fun chemistry with boyfriend Sakuta.
4. Johan Liebert (Monster) - My all-time favorite anime villain with how manipulative and unsettling his personality is.
5. Rin Tohsaka (Fate franchise) - Has more personality than many within the tsundere character type and gets opportunities to hold her weight in magical battles throughout the Fate franchise.
Least Favorites
1. Ichigo Kurosaki (Bleach) - Pretty bland as a lead character among the Big Three of the popular shounen battle titles (Naruto, One Piece, and Bleach) and seems too convenient for Tite Kubo to give him abilities of every relevant character type within the series.
2. Kazuto Kirigaya (Sword Art Online) - Another bland character largely written as an audience surrogate to be overpowered to live out a power fantasy and able to conveniently attract much of the relevant female cast.
3. Rei Ayanami (Evangelion) - This mainly concerns her 1990s anime incarnation, whom was pretty flat as a character and I never really got the appeal of since she only seemed largely to exist to develop and advance elements of the plot.
4. Taiga Aisaka (Toradora) - Tsundere characters voiced by Rie Kugimiya were quite popular during the late 2000s and early 2010s. Not so much a fan of them because of how obnoxious they were, especially the case with Rie's voicing of Taiga and not really getting the appeal of her and Ryuuji as a couple.
5. Rimuru Tempest (Reincarnated as a Slime) - Might be a slime, but Rimuru still epitomizes many of the familiar trappings of the isekai genre being overpowered, self-aware of his current situation, and able to conveniently get nearly every relevant character in the series to take a liking to him.
I know all but a few of them. Most of them are pretty solid, and I get why people like them, even if I'm not the biggest fan. Characters like Taiga, I don't get the appeal of though. I haven't seen the series, but from what I know of her, I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be a fan.
Also, I thought it was impossible for anyone even just somewhat interested in anime to be unfamiliar with Goku and Vegeta. They're some of, if not THE, most well know characters, aside from maybe the Micky Mouse of Pokemon, Pikachu.
The categories I put those characters in are a bit chaotic and not symmetrical in a way I'd prefer them to be, but it's not a big deal anyway.
Shinji, Itachi, Senjougahara and Araragi are somewhere in-between like and love (if I had 10 more favorite slots available to make it 30, all of them would have had an extremely high chance of getting a spot there, or maybe even “invade” the existing last 5 spots if I'd decided to replace someone currently in 15-20 spots).
C.C. could probably go to neutral category these days, but I’m taking my first negative impression into an account, and since I definitely disliked her – mixed feelings category seems appropriate. Light is in a similarly complicated position, since I both visibly like and visibly don't like him at the same time, for different reasons. In his particular case, "mixed feelings" is a good thing rather than bad, but it's still mixed feelings nonetheless.
The kid version of Naruto would be in the disliked category.
Roy Mustang dislike only applies to his FMA:B version. For 2003 version, I think it’d be neutral instead.
In the poll itself, I voted for Ken Kaneki from Tokyo Ghoul, since he is my favorite one out of 40 characters that I know.
I've seen the shows/movies that 55-60 of them are from.
I say 55-60 cause I've seen like 1 dragon ball movie and 3 naruto movies, but I feel like given how long they are that's not nearly enough to count it as a "I know the character" even to a small level.
But anyway It takes too long to explain all of them,
But let's just say 8/10 of my all time favourite characters are also in the top 100:
Okabe, Reigen, Askeladd, Ishigami, Erwin, Josepth, Revy, and Kurumi
Kurumi is 10th, so she is a bit of a give or take with a few other characters but still.
I think top 100 of mal is a weird place. It has such a distinct difference between characters that are there because they are hot, characters that are there because they are great, and characters that are there because they come from a popular show.
It's actually hilarious. The list as a whole has characters to represent the taste of every type of anime fan, which makes it completely chaotic, but it's also really neat actually!

@-YaoiBoy- It is a surprise to see a fellow Revy "disliker".
@Shizuna yeah, and always a pleasant surprise lol
I'm not a fan of Black Lagoon or its characters in general :) they try very hard to exude the "cool" nihilistic vibe in the most cynical way possible and go waaaaay overboard for my taste, with no proper atmosphere or presentation to support it. It's very hard to enjoy a series where 80% of the characters often get on your nerves simply by talking with each other lol and Revy has a lot of screen time, action, dialogues etc. Combined with the fact that I don't like her character, it's only natural for her to be the focus of my dislike (I think she is actually in my top-10 most hated characters of all time, but I don't have a definitive list - only an approximate one, and she was definitely there at some point).
@-YaoiBoy- Hatred is is a too powerful of emotion for me, but yes, I agree with your evaluation overall. Personally, I find Revy too vulgar and nihilistic for my tastes and she isn't even pretty to look at. I think the only Black Lagoon character I liked was Roberta because unlike most other characters she was capable of love, kindness, loyalty and remorse.

@Shizuna Ha! I just wanted to mention Roberta in my previous message :p yeah, she also always stood out to me as someone that I actually kind of liked.
As for hate: well, I usually use "love" for my favorites, so that's why I use "hate" for the opposites :) but I wouldn't say it's hate hate, not really. I definitely love what I love a lot more than hate what I hate. In most cases, I think that I'd rather replace "hated" with less strong words like "distasteful" or "repulsive", but the "love/hate" dichotomy just sounds nice and makes sense.
@-YaoiBoy- I see. Well, considering I love my favorite character as much as I'd love a real romantic partner if not more, the opposite would be hatred of the highest grade.

@Shizuna I can certainly understand that :) some of my own experiences with favorite things in media invoked stronger feelings than when I was in love with a real person. Maybe not a particular character like in your case, but just overall.
Yeah, the whole "hatred of the highest grade" is what makes sense, but what I find to be kind of lacking in comparison to "love of the highest grade" or whatever. Maybe it's simply because we watch anime, read manga etc. to like something, not the other way around. We instinctively search for positive experiences, regardless of whether we get them or not. Therefore, it's a lot easier to find something you're completely in love with compared to finding something that you completely hate. Even if you try to balance it out, "hate" kind of always has a weaker meaning than "love", at least in my case. For every 5 experiences I may label as "hated" there is 1 experience labeled as "loved" that overpowers the hated ones when I really get into analyzing my perception of them. Something like that :) maybe it's not entirely like that in practice, but that's how it seems to me.
@-YaoiBoy- True. If we didn't like these stories we wouldn't bother immersing ourselves in them. This is why it is so strange to see many haters everywhere, i.e. what's the point in obsessing with things you dislike when you can just avoid them and spend your time on something you'd more likely to enjoy.
@bladecode It's sad to say, but the anime community have its fair share of pedos. They are just hiding in the shadows, waiting for their moment to come. You can usually spot them by their lolicon avatars.
זכור תמיד כי ההחלטה שלך להצליח היא יותר חשובה מכל דבר אחר.
Even though I haven't watch most of the animes I recognized most of them by pictures. The ones I didn't recognize are: Osamu Dazai, Ituki Nakano, Izaya Orihara, Houtarou Oreki, Sebastion Michealis, and Takumi Usui

@Shizuna Hmm well, I guess since the outlet for negative emotions is also required from time to time, it's only natural for disliked things to become an occasional target for it, but obsessing with it? Yeah, that's a bit too much :)
I'm most familiar with the mecha protagonists (but of course), the occasional sci-fi show and the few battle shounen I watched as a kid. Out of those, I like Lelouch, C.C. (though I always was more pro-Kallen), Kamina (I must say he was always brutally overrated as a character, he's discount Ryoma Nagare from Getter Robo), Asuka and Shinji (simply perfect characters for the kind of story Eva was trying to tell). Zero-Two's a very mixed bag, I like her looks and the romance but her behaviour sometimes can be too much. Out of the non-mecha protags, Spike's obviously a cool dude (also English dub is overrated), Revy's a perfect "badass bih", and I kinda like Goku and Ichigo because I was raised on Dragon Ball and Bleach. Rias is nice, I guess, but I haven't really dived into DxD that deep (though I must admit I like the idea of the horny nice guy getting to date pretty girls while also working on himsel, and Marin's a rare kind of sexy and sweet all at once. Guts, well, he's Guts, I don't think there's anything else to be said about Berserk that hasn't already been said. The rest I generally don't care about or simply don't see the point.
Why the f is Subaru on this list? Did he drive a Subaru into MAL headquarters and hold them hostage until they added him????
Can I give him a negative score? Negative a million? No that's not enough, let's go with negative Aleph null, the ordered infinity.
Other than that looks pretty standard. I think there's maybe about 20 characters whose series I have not seen and maybe 10 who I know nothing about. I'm surprised there's not a single GED character here even though GED is in the top 100 anime on MAL (at one point, top 3 if I recall, but I suppose it makes sense since many people have not seen it). Honestly I don't know which one of these I would pick as my fave, at least half I would say are to my liking but none of them really jumps out at me. Maybe I'll go with gon since so many people are clowning on him? XD He's definitely not the best, but I do think he is a contender for best child protagonist (although Killua is arguably better). Idk, I guess I'll let L, Guts and Jotaro share the number one spot.
