Do you watch/read something lighter after dark things to ease your mood? Or do you prefer watching the dark stuff last to have time thinking about it?

I don't really have a pattern for it, I watch multiple series at the same time, so it could have a balance, like action + drama + slice of life, there're both light and heavy stuffs to watch.

I mean, isn't it both if you alternate between light and heavy stuff? Not sure if I understand the question.

I watch something dark after something dark. Texhnolyze after Berserk is my jam...

I do like my dark stuff but a palate cleanser afterwards is a must.
Then rinse and repeat

@mazuchi I mean individual episodes from different genres, but the question can apply to entire series too.

@tinshard Oh ok, so meant like what the last episode of the day is. Mmh, I don't have a pattern I think.

I try and switch between them for variety, but it's not a ritual or anything. For the most part, I just watch whatever strikes my fancy at that moment.

For me, it's good after watching/reading dark stuff, I'll watch/read fluffy, relaxing, and peaceful ones for a good balance and healing. Just alternating them.

Hmm.. Neither, I'd say. I usually watch a bunch of dark/heavy (or light) stuff back to back and then switch to the other

Not necessarily dark stuff, but I'd watch something light after a show that brings me a heavy mood at the end. Maybe unsettling or sad ending.

It’s a random order, sometimes I watch/read more dark stuff after just finishing something dark or more light after finishing something light and vice versa.

I like to switch things up while maintaining a balance between the two.

I watch Monster.

And then watch Working!!(wagnaria)... Damn i loved every single min ... Monster was just too much.

I like switching genre and not always watching the same sh*t.
Morpheus: The Matrix is everywhere. It is all around us. Even now, in this very room. You can see it when you look out your window or when you turn on your television. You can feel it when you go to work... when you go to church... when you pay your taxes.
It is the world that has been pulled over your eyes to blind you from the truth.

I do exactly the same thing. When I was watching Nana recently, it got so heavy that I started Aria S3 to balance the heavy and light.

Oh just read that OP was referring to the last ep of the day. In that case it changes. I always have a longer series (>100 eps) on the go and watch that at the end of the day. In the last year that's included InuYasha, YYH, Ranma and One Piece, so my last episode of the day was always chill. For the last few months I've been watching LotGH so my final ep of the day, including today, has been thought provoking. It's been a nice change, but LotGH requires you to pay close attention, whereas with One Piece or Ranma I can knock back a few beers and have a smoke and chillax.

I love feeling depressed as much as feeling good when I watch a show, so I mix it. However, I'm biased toward darker mood shows, so I tend to watch those more before I watch good vibe shows.

Always been an optimist, so a feel-good ending just feels "right" to me. Especially if the main cast went through thick and thin to get there.

Going suddenly dark is worse, that's hard to pull off well.
Also being too happy all the way through gets really boring after a while.

@TheMechaManiac There is nothing inherently wrong with a happy ending, but there is a special place in my heart for endings where everything goes catastrophically wrong just right.

I don't really have a rule about what order to watch light or heavy shows in. The show I choose to watch last every day is either a trashy ecchi series or my favorite show out of what I'm currently watching, which has included both hilarious comedies and hard hitting drama stories.

I don't usually like like depressing endings.

If you want to go dark though, do it around the halfway point or within the first couple episodes, use that death/trauma/whatever wisely to build and motivate characters and move the story along with increasingly higher stakes, and end on some kind of satisfying victory or hopeful note. It's more effective at creating a tense atmosphere, keeping the viewer guessing at who will survive and creates a better emotional payoff. There's a certain series which is frequently topping the chart here that does this perfectly.

I actually swap every time. After watching something dark I like to cleanse my pallet with something light-hearted and vice versa. For example the last anime I completed was Kaiji and now I'm watching A Couple of Cuckoos. Or it just depends on my mood, like yeah I want to be depressed today lol.

I like both if done well. So long as it captures the themes of the show then I'm on board with an ending weather dark, depressing, bittersweet or happy.

Sometimes I try to continue watching something with heavy content, but I get bored halfway through, so I watch something with lighter content.

I sometimes watch anime with heavy content and read manga comedies with lighter content to balance it out.

Interesting, I don't approach what I read or watch that way, I usually just move to whatever I'm the mood for next, but I can understand why you might wanna watch something that's on the more lighthearted side after watching the most soul crushing movie ever lol.

I guess dark, but moreso in a melancholic way rather than a cynical way.
