I would say otherwise if Luffy was reality bending like... getting sliced in pieces and then coming back together like Tom and Jerry, or being burn into ashes and then coming back just fine the panel after for the lols (like an actual Looney Tunes cartoon would do). He is not really, I've seen much more absurdity coming from One Piece fruits than just this at this point, just not from Luffy (just look at Law's fruit and awakening, that's another Paramecia going absolutely bonkers with its premise moreso than what we are seeing atm).

OK.. Now that the oda wankers are gone.. Worst chapter I've seen since Fishman. Even if this fruit suits luffy, does it suit kaido to be beaten by such a goofy way.. Does it suit blackbeard and akainu and world government to get beaten by this goofiness. People saying one piece is always funny are professional oda fellatio givers.. We had arcs like sabaody to marineford because story progression because things can't all just be goofy, because the serious moments should be respected as serious.. Heck, even in enes lobby also.. What is this nonsense now.. First the retcon of luffy entire characterization and ideals last week now this nonsense chapter that makes a joke out of an arc where two yonkos allied and have had no actual impact whatsoever other than to be disgraced. Let me see anyone call kaido a good villain again. At this point I'm reading one piece solely for the mystery

Otherwise the fight was decent but still underwhelming from what I envisioned when I started reading Wano.

A lot of people entered in abundant detail with this sort of speculation. Some Youtube videos also introduce quite a few interesting hindsights I myself never noticed, too (just be aware that not everything we have so far is solid evidence, quite a few are stretches, no pun intended.

Summary is...
This was properly foreshadowed and somewhat hinted for a while (although not as substantially as 30 or so chapters ago). But there's been potential evidence that this quite likely was in the works at least since before Arabasta, because of some very specifically suspicious Q&A answers from Oda since volume 15 or so (one question regarding Hito-Hito fruit having him straight run away from the question asked lol).

In short, whenever Luffy is in direct contact (or if like in DoFlamingo's case, close to something), he can give it the attribute of his Paramecia-powered Mythical Zoan (which, like all other Mythical Zoans in the story so far, have mixed attributes of different kinds of fruits, much like Kaido's and Marco's).

Right now, the attribute of his fruit, the ridiculously flexible rubber from Nika's body, is basically making Kaido's body like rubber during this whole fight.

That's why he can stretch his eye balls, inflate his body, and punch him in the face in a way that basically worked much Luffy's own rubber body getting shot since the first chapters, or for an example in this very chapter, deformed like when Kaido's hit him with his spiky stick.

You can see the contorns of his hand basically just not being there, and instead being as if covered by Kaido's skin:


You can see that in the case of Kaido's eyes instead, Oda made the fingers very visible for them being consistently transparent much like the aforementioned Skypeia scene from where that gag was directly taken from (a.k.a. One Piece's cartoon anatomy since Arabasta or earlier, you know, when Luffy leaks water out of the hole in his body, or knocking from the inside of a giant reptile's eyes, as if it was glass, and then falling out of its mouth when it open it lol).

Then again, anatomy really is not something you should take realistically serious in a work where people drink milk to regrow teeth, theirs clearly work in a different way than our own lol
