Ah. Should've known it was some smart people shit/done some research. Would've been cool if there were 84+ of them though.

Perhaps they were more, but it still wouldn't make too much sense for them to be named like that, especially when other gems are named that way. Imagine if Phos is actually the 84th Phos, that'd get confusing quickly.

This show is just a delight to watch. I nearly passed it over, but am glad that I changed my mind. Phos is such a fun trouble maker to look at, lol. Her antics so far were rather fun and amusing.

Unfortunately, sometimes the hard dose of reality can be very difficult to swallow, as shown in this episode. Poor Phos, I feel sorry for her. Bort should stop being so mean, since this was her first battle anyway. What do you expect from someone who can't even properly lift a sword? Only thing she got is her new shiny legs with supah-speed.

Maybe she should have paired up with Sanic teh Hedgehog, to learn the way of teh speed of sound, LOL (I'm just joking).

I don't blame Bort, Phos could run and alerting someone.

Phos was so tired they couldn't. They have no stamina, and they were already on the ground there because they were exhausted.

Oh boy, we get to see Phos be helpless... AGAIN. This is seriously getting old. I'm at least glad that they're not trying to hide the ecchi intentions behind the character designs anymore, but that doesn't make me feel any more comfortable looking at them.

What? The character designs aren't "ecchi." They're stylized, beyond the feminine hair they're androgynous, but I wouldn't call that "ecchi." There are definitely some ecchi scenes, but I think the designs themselves are fine.

They're meant to be a bit uncanny valley since they're not really human. Obviously they don't need squishy bits since they don't reproduce sexually, and they only even wear clothes and put on the fake powder "skin" because they were taught to. I find all that interesting rather than sexual.

To be clear, I don't necessarily mean this is an ecchi show, but that the designs seem to be tailored to an audience with certain ecchi tastes. The flat chest, it makes sense. You don't need mammaries if you don't reproduce and nurse. That then begs the question, why do they have ridiculous bubble butts, with cheeks and all? That just tells me the creator knew exactly what kind of loli fans they were going to draw in with designs like these. I don't think I need to mention all the times they put the focus square on characters' butts to illustrate my point.

I'm sure this is tied to the backstory of what happened to humans, but it also bugs me that these totally alien creatures would assume a human shape. What's so advantageous about this form compared to literally anything else? The same logical issue makes me wonder why they would bother wearing clothes if they don't have private parts, other than that it's a remnant of human society. The thing is, Phos has done a really terrible job of giving me someone to root for and identify with to keep me interested at all in the mystery of the setting.

Edit: To further the loli notion, I haven't felt this uncomfortable watching an anime since Eromanga Sensei, although this has much more merit to it.

Two things in this episode really pissed me off.

1. Phos supposedly can barely lift the lightest blade they have, and we do see her struggle to lift one. But then the next time we see her she is laid in bed just casually holding one up. Then throughout the rest of the episode she carries one like it's no big deal at all.

2. The Amethyst twins manage to rip through the lunarian easily but then they just stand there gawking and die pathetically when faced with some stupid tentacles.

Watching Sensei carefully, it appears he has at least limited control over mass and/or gravity (for example, when he was slowly walking toward Phos in ep 5 and causing disproportionate damage in the process). That scene seemed to be a test of Phos' strength: if she could lift the artificially massive blade, great she's ready to start training; if not, she isn't ready and he can discourage her pestering with "you couldn't even lift the lightest blade".

After all, she was able to easily throw Goshenite's blade into the air in ep 1, further suggesting Sensei did something to the "lightest" blade. Also note that as soon as Sensei says Phos will start training with Amethyst, she's able casually hold the blade off the ground with one hand, suggesting that's when Sensei "released" the blade's extra mass.

So you are trying to tell me that Phos has lived 300 years and wants to fight but she has never picked up a blade before this scene?
And then later when she is able to pick up a blade it's not like she is surprised or realizes that sensei was tricking her. It's just never explained. One moment she can't pick up a blade then the next scene she can and nobody even questions it.

Read my edit, I added more information.

Also, presumably this is something Sensei did for everyone else; if so, it makes sense that none of them would make a big deal of it. Also, Phos is kind of an idiot who might not notice this discrepancy, plus she explicitly has some memory loss.

Showing Phos hold a blade in episode 1 only compounds the problem.
That would mean that Phos knows for sure that she is strong enough to throw a sword. So why doesn't she question it when she suddenly can't pick one up?

Like I said, she's kind of an inattentive idiot who's very explicitly lost a third of her memories; either one could easily account for it, and she's got both going on.

The only thing her throwing a sword "compounds" is that there's definitely more to "struggle to lift the lightest sword" than first meets the eye, and I sincerely doubt it's coincidence/convenience that she just so happens to stop struggling to hold the blade the exact instant Sensei says he'll let her start training.

Why does Phos get blamed for everything?

Wasn't even Phos's fault, Amethyst was like "Oh this is probably one of those enemies where something is going to come out" and then just stood there for like 5 minutes before getting crushed to bits. Kind of annoying that they decided to just talk to Phos in the middle of battle instead of staying on their toes.

Phos was scared shitless, she couldn't even run :( How disappointing. But it is her first encounter. Sometimes you need a harsh reality to snap you into place. Maybe she'll do better next time or find something that's more suitable for her

I wonder if Sensei is a human. Perhaps an evolved form of one, since he seems to be a monk and all?
He definitely reacted to the word human after Phos mentioned it, so :3

Phos need to get serious: she wasn't ready for a battle, ended up exhausted after one day of work and couldn't even move when in danger (even if she was extremely tired).

The way the twins were captured was so dumb, they stood up just in range of the enemy (knowing there could be more unexpected enemies) and... they got bodied afterwards.

On a funny note, I knew it: their butts were totally intentional. +1

This discussion is full of useless gender assumptions. Also someone (I dare not call a retard) discovering ecchi out of the blue.
Somehow I think Phos' suffering this time around is more traumatizing as the victim is not his 'useless' self but somebody else. Also reality check. It requires a battle veteran to face a fearsome Lunarian attack, or even strong agate legs might turn into jelly...
The twin gems speak in a peculiar manner. Are they following particular dialects, or they just talk sluggishly? I hope they'll be alright.
Yellow Diamond is just another likable character added to the bag:) After finishing the anime, as there is no news of a 2nd season, I'll definitely continue with the manga to see where everything goes!

Lmao that Diamond butt wiggle;

I like how Obsidian is their swordsmith

Amethyst's getting destroyed, they were a bit too confident, surprised Bortz got psised at Phos, seeing as Phos is known for not being able to fight.

Also Master seems really strong, I can only assume he has some sort of limitation or otherwise he'd just be blasting away all the Lunarians when needed.

Yellow Diamond is like the senpai of senpai for being the oldest one there, over 3000+ years old, damn! Over 10 times older than little Phosphophyllite.

This is the moment Phosphophyllite has been waiting for, permission to join the battle or at least a patrol team. Amethyst's twin replication is a really convenient way to carry out her duty, especially with the newbie on tow. Alas, even they can't match the barbarity of the Lunarians especially now equipped with a weapon formed from their fellow gems, Sapphire. Phos might be hella quick and fast now, but she is incapable of direct combat for now, and definitely does not have a tempered combat perception and will as can be seen with her being petrified.

Interesting how Sensei reacted the way he did upon hearing Phos said the word 'humans', on that note, is Sensei himself a human? Nope, I doubt it. Then, if he isn't a human is he a gem?

It makes a lot of sense that the immortal warriors weren't ready for an enemy counterattack. How tf do the gem people work anyways, they're powered by sunlight, but I assume they also have to breath and stuff considering they can speak and whatnot. So like, I guess they could do cardio, but still, it's weird that Phos just went limp like that. Phos really is fucking worthless, honestly, Idk why or how he was even born, I assume the gem people have to make eachother or they're just formed whenever, but Phos doesn't makes sense to be the youngest, considering science and shit. Phosphophylyte would probably make a better host for a lifeform than Cinnabar. It could be an Evangelionesque situation where the three different races have to integrate eachother to surpass their progenitors, idk tho

The series is really growing on me. It being only about 13 episodes is a sad sight because I'm already half way to the end.

Also. sensei has been sus since the first episode; I just know he's a traitor. And as much as I'm loving the series it seems awfully wild to use some terms in context what world the author is trying to build, I mean occasionally saying words like 'nerves' makes it weird. It kinda falls flat on the world building part if in the end they really turn out to not have human components. I've been seeing more and more of these terms used and for a mystery series, it might make us miss the entire point if they were just errors in dialogue the author forgot to check out.

The sensai is hiding something for sure. At first I thought it was like a Powerpuff girls Charlie's angel type situation where he's the leader and lil mysterious. But I think this goes a bit beyond that.
