Sports in anime is not about the sport; it's about the TOURNAMENT ARCS! Who doesn't love tournament arcs? It's the bread and butter of Dragon Ball and many shounen after it. Instead of kids killing each other with superpowers, we get kids killing each other through sports. But which of these got the best tournament arcs?

DISCLAIMER: I'm a person of GREAT TASTE. If your pick isn't on here then it just means it's trash.

Attack no1 clearly is the best, it was so good that it created a volleyball boom in japan and created some of the sports anime tropes. Also, it is based on a true story about a team of girls from a factory who had a crazy demon coach but they won 200 matches in a row and 10 of them girls won the gold at the olympics when japan was weak at volleyball.
Its legacy is just too grand.

Tennis no Ouji-sama is definitely the best sports anime(imo)

This poll is useless since most of the sport anime is underrated or unpopular in myanimelist compared to haikyuu.

I know Haikyuu! will get the most votes because of how popular it is, but I implore everyone who hasn't already to go and watch Hajime no Ippo. Best early 2000's sports series and a great series even up to this day with its more recent seasons.

I hope MAPPA and Madhouse come back together to do another season of the show (or just give the rights to MAPPA and let them go ham).

I have to go with Kuroko no Basket.
It was one of my first sports anime.
And I also really liked the characters. I don’t think nothing could beat it for me.

Haikyuu is really good but I wouldn't say its the best from that list.

I voted for Run with the Wind. Not necessarily because I think its best but because I think its massively underrated as a really good sports anime.

As far as anime goes, for me nothing even comes close to Haikyu. But it's nice to see people appreciating Ping Pong as well.
For manga I'd say probably Slam Dunk or Joe

If purely about the sports itself, haikyuu is pretty good.

However, Ping Pong goes above and beyond with its coming-of-age story about why they play the game and the deep dive into the psychological aspect of the players. Its not just the greatest sport anime but also one of the GOATs imo.

Definitely hajime no ippo. All other sports anime like haikyuu and kuroko no basket are just slice of life with a sports theme.
