Like, you can do a lot in 12 episodes, like with Madoka Magica, Violet Evergarden... But Steins;Gate took 24, Re:Zero as well... It feels to me that there's an overall higher content quality in those longer series. Maybe because double the length to fill allows for more screentime, exposition, development, freedom of pacing...
Or it depends on the source material itself? Or is just one of the factors to tell if an anime will reach a meaningful conclusion?

I don't think 12 episodes gap matters. 12 episodes can actually stockpiled a plot punch the same as 24 episodes.

Hence, I trust it equally.

Nope.
It depends on author's idea. X episodes could be too short, too long or just enough.

Yes.
However, I feel that 12 episode anime is nice for making an entertaining show and that it is a bit less overwhelming for new comers like me who start watching anime online rather than broadcast.

Not really. It depends on author's talent. For some writers even 100 episodes may not be enough to write a decent story with decent characters. Some other writers may just need 1-2 episodes to do a great job...

Well Steins;Gate and Violet Evergarden are two of my favorite anime of all time so I trust both. Episode count doesn't matter to me at all its how you utilize the episodes you have to make a good story.

Just like a 1h movie can deliver it, I think a 12 episode anime also can, but it actually depends, if it is a really complex plot and the author wants to heavily develop some points, sometimes 12-13 episodes might not be enough.
If Ufotable makes an anime remake of the Fate route and Tsukihime I can say that I lived a full life.

Most of my favourite shows have 2 cours or more, so yes.
I trust more when an anime has 24 episodes than 12.

And as mentioned here, Madoka has an ending with 12 episodes, but there's still the movie, which is a sequel. So the story isn't just 12 episodes.
If you're a fanboy, please don't waste my time.

Watch more movies, please.

Perhaps, this is hell.

It depends, but I think it's much easier to find a rushed 12 episodes adaptation than an overly slow 24 episodes one, especially nowadays.

i'm the opposite actually; the longer an anime, the more fillers it probably has. not to say that all long anime are like this, but i generally like my anime short and sweet

The difference is that many anime are adapted from very long source material. 12 episodes is not enough to meaningfully adapt 12 volumes of manga, and you can forget about adapting that many novels. 24 episodes is a huge improvement, though it often still is not enough. 12 episodes is ideal when the story is originally written that way, such as Yuri On Ice or Haibane Renmei.

Don't care about episode count. What matters most for me is how they flesh out the story.
Kaguya sama is my favorite rom com which has 12 episodes per season and my favorite shounen is Black clover when it only started to get very good since the Elf reincarnation arc so I trust both.

I've never thought about it. Sure there is a good chance that 24 episodes will convey a better story but there is also a chance that having more episodes might ruin it and it may lack consistency.

No. Length doesn't matter for me when it comes to delivering a story.
For example, Madoka magica and Steins gate both delivered their plot rather beautifully in their respective number of episodes.
But Anohana kept beating around the bush for 4 to 5 episodes in the middle despite having only 11 episodes.

I used to think so and then I watched Violet Evergarden, Madoka Magica and I can confidently say anime are definitely capable of delivering Fantastic Content and Story in just the Span of 12-13 Eps. It just depends on the writing of that 'X' anime.

It depends on how good or long the source material as well as how well adapted the anime does with the story and pacing.

I don't think that was quite the valid comparison, steins gate covers a VN which is 50 hours long meanwhile VE covers only 2 volumes of a light novel, they were able to become as well renowned as they are, because of the length they got. If steins gate was a 12 EP anime then it would be a confusing mess with abundant of cut content and if VE was a 24 EP long anime then it would be pretty much of a snorefest

It really depends if it's an original or an adaptation of something

if they can manage to make a good 12-3 episode original, then so be it, but if they want to expand the lore, a 24 episode is always welcome
it highly depends on pacing and execution too, although 13 episode anime may suffer by being rushed or having important source material cut off (happens a lot with adaptations)

It depends but re:zero is way more than 24 episodes by now.

Sometimes they'll cram in a lot but miss a lot just to give appeal to people to go read the manga and sometimes they'll follow the manga or source material pretty well but it'll only cover as much as it can for the first part which also may make people want to read the manga when another season doesn't come or if they just don't want to wait.

I don't really trust one more than another if saying this even makes any sense. I just watch and if I like it I'll keep watching. The more episodes the more episodes I may try to give the anime a chance for before I drop it, especially if it scored fairly high.

I've seen deep meaningful stories being told in just one 10-20 minute episode.
So, I don't care what length it is. Everything is possible and there is always a potential.

Haven't we learnt anything? NGE and its spectacular downfall? It all depends on execution. Movie, 1, 12, 24, or 1000+ are the same.

i think that 24 episode anime have more time to expand on the story, but that doesn't mean all 24+ episode anime are great, theres a lot of 12 episode anime that had much better storylines than 24+ episode anime.

24 episodes + the "anime original" tag are a good sign that the story will have an actual resolution and not leave you hanging.

Well, a 12 episode show and 24 episode show can both be good, and there are some 12 episode shows that would not work with another cour, but currently, so many 11-13 ep anime get rushed that I do wish 24 episode shows were more commonplace.

For the most part yes. I find far too many anime overly fast paced rather than too slow and longer usually does a better job with the story.

depends on how much worldbuilding / character development it needs for the show to be good, like a 12 episode show can do those 2 things wonderfully and vice versa.

Has a 8.60 mean score

The OP used both anime as an example in the original post so thats why I used them.

Episode count don't matter. A well directed series will deliver its meaning just as well. I mean, look at MHA 5 this season. It's full of fillers and bs content.

I think the people handling the adaptation matters more than the episode count, but I will say that a 24 episode series (these days) sort of hints to me that the people behind it have a lot of confidence and commitment towards their product, and as such draws my attention. Aquatrope is one such example. Of course, that isn't always a sure fire thing either (looking at you Blue Reflection)

It really depends on the writer who is making the anime original. Odd Taxi is a great show while A/Z was terrible even with its amazing OST.

If its a manga adaption/LN adaption it does not matter if its 12 or 24+ episodes it will almost always leave you hanging especially if said anime sold terribly.

Nope not really. I give both a decent opportunity to prove themselves.
It is fact that I've barely seen half as many 20+ episode anime, compared to the amount of 10+ episode anime. But I am reminded of some 20+ series I dreaded watching and am dreading to watch.

yea absolutely, i always find myself loving the longer series’ more. it’s probably a lot to do with attachment to the characters too.. obviously the longer the series, the more time spent on it therefore the more attached you’re going to get, and the more impactful the story is going to be

I don't know, to me MHA like any other franchise with multiple anime counts as 24+ episodes, the build-up was there
