Your mom enters your room and ask you to watch something with her.
Obviously you accept, she's after all your mother, but what would you watch with her?

Personally I have three possible routes, I can either pick a silly RomCom like Golden Days, Chuunibyou, Kaguya-sama Maid-sama or something similar, or I can pick a more serious show like Clannad, Your Lie in April or something like that, or my third option would be to pick a Shoujo/Josei anime like Fruits Basket, Ore Monogatari, Kiss him not me or something in that direction.
I'm going with quite safe bets, something I know for sure she'd enjoy, she have rather simple taste.

What would you pick to watch together with your mother if she'd ask? And why would you pick that?

I watched Monogatari with my little sister, after the toothbrush scene, we had to stop seeing each other for some days.

My mother, I would show her Yuru Camp.
If you're a fanboy, please don't waste my time.

Watch more movies, please.

Perhaps, this is hell.

It will never happen, but I would watch with her one of the old movies that resemble more to the a TV films she like than an anime in general, like Only Yesterday, Omoide no Marnie or maybe series like Funa wo Amu, Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu.

Or why not go completely wild with Okaasan online

I’d show my mom Kaguya-sama or Sound! Euphonium. They’re both easy, cute shows to watch. I might even bring in a Ghibli movie if she enjoys the other two.

Well my mother likes many genres and kinds of stories. If she asked me to watch some anime with her I would definitely choose some anime that respects both itself and the audience. Depending on the mood and what she would like to see at the moment I could watch with her pretty much anything directed by directors such as Oshii, Hosoda, Shinkai, Miyazaki, Kon, etc. So stuff like Ghost in the Shell, Ghibli films, Your Name, Perfect Blue, etc.

Same criteria applies to TV shows. So things like Stand Alone Complex, Aria, Seirei no Moribito, Sangatsu no Lion, Rakugo, Mushishi, Erin, Cowboy Bebop, Fullmetal Alchemist, Attack on Titan (actually managed to watch AoT with her), Legend of the Galactic Heroes, etc.

Back in my high school days when I still lived with the family my mom sat through all of Death Note and Monster with me. She doesn't really like anime, but for whatever reason those two resonated with her.

I've shown her a few films like A Silent Voice, Tokyo Godfathers, and some of the Ghibli ones, but that's about it.

If I was specifically asked now though it would have to have the right mood. Probably something that isn't "kiddish", as she wouldn't care for that. It also would have to not be a comedy, as she thinks anime humor is bad. I would probably pick something like Violet Evergarden, Kids on the Slope, or Rakugo Shinjuu. Something mature that has lots to take away from it, but something simple enough for her to understand.

Aaah, although the setting is kind of different, i did watch an anime with my mom.
It was when i'm re-watching one of Ghibli movies (i think it was either Princess Mononoke or Spirited Away.. i forgot) on the tv in the living room. My mom came and just asked stuffs on what's happening there. Although she fell asleep midway XD

So if she asked herself, i will probably watch another Ghibli movies again.

I've always watched anime with my mom and I still do like every other week. I don't watch a lot of ecchi or anything anyway and I just don't show her the really "gorey" stuff either. But I've rewatched a lot of anime I like with her + a lot anime movies.

Attack on Titan (very minor spoilers ahead).
As a matter of fact, she did (reluctantly) watch most episodes of Season 1 with me. Meaning, she got to experience the iconic titan sex between Annie and Eren in its absolute glory.
Never asked her what she thought of it (and the fact that her son was stargazing over a bunch of naked giants running around with no shame whatsoever) because I was too embarrassed.

Either One Piece or JJB. I doubt a situation like this would happen, and Idk whether i want it too or not.

So in a way it was thanks to your mom that you discovered anime in the first place.

I won't show her Kaguya sama because it has some heavy sexual themes.

I feel like she would like Nana. I haven't seen it, but I feel like it would be her type of show.
She could also maybe like Death Note.

I don't really know what she would like because she is so much different person than me. Like she loves punk and wears punk fashion. That's probably her biggest interest.

Not that I would ever imagine her watching anime.

Something really similar to this actually did happen to me earlier this year, and if I had to pick just one thing, it would be Violet Evergarden. Out of the 40ish anime my mom has seen so far, it's one of her absolute favorites. She was blown away by the animation, and every episode easily kept her attention. Plus, it has a pretty good dub, which is the only thing my mom was willing to watch at first (though she switched over to subs pretty quickly). She keeps asking me when the new movie is going to be subtitled. It's just a really solid show.

She wasn't willing to try a full TV series at first though, since that was too much of a commitment for something she might not even like, so I went with a movie, A Silent Voice. She loved it, and was crying by the end. We did a few more movies before moving on to a series, and some of her early favorites were Wolf Children, I Want to Eat Your Pancreas, and Your Name. When she was ready to watch a TV series, Erased, Tokyo Magnitude 8.0, and Violet Evergarden were some of the first she watched. She loved all of these.

Now she's watching a little bit of everything, from all genres. I think the last few she finished were Kaguya-sama, FMA Brotherhood, and Yuru Camp, all of which she really liked.

Wouldn't put my mother through shit like clannad, I love her too much to inflict that on her.

Given her tastes I'd probably have her watch movies from mushishi, natsume yuujinchou and made in abyss. If she wanted a series I think she'd like psycho pass quite a bit.

She'd probably enjoy a couple of miyazaki movies as well along with paprika, toki wo kakeru shoujo, momo e no tegami. I think the major problem would be having her watch a series, she's always busy doing stuff so I don't think she has the time for that.
