Some people seems to want to (imagine to) have sex with their waifu/husbando... or at least imagine one-self dating them.

But, what exactly is waifu/husbando to you?

For me it's basically my most absolute favorite character of all time that I'm very much love with all my heart, soul and life, lmao.

However I don't ship myself with them nor I imagine dating them nor wish to associate myself with them. I already have ship for both my husbandos.

Wbu?

EDIT:
After reading the comments, I changed the 3rd option a bit to "Character you want to date, marry, and have sex with.". Surely in the 3rd option the character might be your most favorite of all time, and they are naturally character that you find attractive both physical and personality too. So I think it's all encompassing enough. No need to put "all of the above" 4th option :3

Waifus is someone that I love mostly based on thier personality.

And no, I'm not thinking about having sex with them, that sounds really bad when saying out loud, haha.

Well I don't really imagine having sex with a drawing but I can appreciate good artwork. I mean its weird how do I imagine wanting to have sex with them? do they get 3D'fyd or do I get 2D'fyd?

None of the poll option applies to my definition, although second choice is probably the closest

I define waifus as fictional characters that I would be content with having as a wife in an imagined scenario. Someone who I would have no issues with sharing my life and spending time together. I try and factor in capabilities, adaptability, reliability, personality, intelligence, possible interaction dynamics, what a typical day of hanging around might feel like, and other factors that I deem valuable in a wife.

Waifus generally are part of my favorite characters, but I can have a favorite character and I wouldn't consider her "waifu". Favorite characters are whoever I got enjoyment out of a show. They can have a personality I wouldn't want to be around with if lets say a real life person shares the same characteristics.

There are plenty of situations in which appearance and personality significantly helps in the decision, but there are more criteria if I want to be able to distinguish and filter further.

All of the poll options tbh

Though I guess favorite character of all time would be the first thing that came to mind if someone asked me to define 'waifu/husbando'.

I definitely used to have anime crushes a while back. I find many anime characters attractive but I would never call them waifus or husbandos. I can appreciate when they have traits that I would like in a significant other or partner, but I would never call them my anything.

In a way all three options. Attractiveness in both the looks and personality is an important factor, although it's not the only one. There is more to it than that, which I can only call love even if I suppose it's a bit different from love in reality, for obvious reasons. Nonetheless it's something that overrides the "objective" attraction characteristics and makes character stand out above others and makes them become special, even if some other characters might objectively fit my tastes more. So looks and personality alone don't cut it, even if they are major factor in triggering this feeling. But the story character is in, their choices and so on contribute as well.
This also makes waifu character become on of my favorite characters, so that option would also fit. And in some way it's more all-encompassing than the second choice, but not all of my favorite characters are my waifus/husbandos so there is more to it than that.
Of course this also makes those characters a lot more sexually attractive than they otherwise would be, so this option is in some way accurate as well, but it's not the cause for them being a waifu/husbando, but rather something that's a result of the character being my waifu/husbando.

I haven't quite figured out what triggers this feeling, it's outside of logic to some degree, even if some common grounds exist. Nonetheless to answer the question in my own way waifu/husbando to me is my ideal romantic partner. I know I can never realize this ideal in reality and I don't think there is any point in doing so in the first place. The point of ideal is that it cannot be attained. I certainly imagine also doing things that people would do with their romantic partners and whether character can become my waifu/husbando or not also depends on how much that feels right as well.
For short answer I suppose @MechKingKillbot and me have similar idea of this concept.

X - 1.All characters that you find attractive, both appearance and personality.

No I don't consider the 1st choice as what a waifu/husbando, means to me.

X - 2.Your most absolute favorite character of all time.

No sorry but I would only feel that these characters are cool, awesome and make up for the anime's shortcomings. Characters that I would put in my favorites.

👑3.Character you want to have sex with.

Yes they would be both attractive and have a personality I can love and respect. If they are not a protagonist, that would be to my benefit.

To me, a waifu/husbando is a character you want to get married to. You can fantasize about how wonderful your life would be with them. Living together. Getting old together. Dying temporally apart but adjacent, for you couldn't help but imagine that the turmoil would be too much.

If you don't have a shrine, at minimum, you don't have a waifu.

Anyway, I don't have any waifus or husbandos for some obvious reasons. I do however have strong opinions on multiple best girls and boys from multiple series.

Nothing.

I did not know that this wacky concept even existed before coming here. And the waifu wars, just gross.

One can hope to meet someone sharing some personality treat of one character (say... Stendhal's Mathilde de La Mole - almost random example) but to actually imagine oneself living with them or else is disturbing to me. I guess that this is probably linked to the perfection fantasy (quite worrying as in the thread "I am only physically attracted by 2D characters" how possible?). I prefer real people who have a high-dimensional character and are therefore less predictable i.e. more interesting.

I chose option 3, but I can't stress it enough, that sex would just be a side effect of the marriage/dating. It wouldn't be out of a desire to objectify her.

The general sense of waifu/husbando is a character you find attractive and, to an extreme, would want to marry (or more...).
But I noticed more and more people using it as a way to simply describe their favorite characters, as a way to say how much they love those characters.
So sometimes I use it that way too, but only when I know people I talk to have the same definition as me. It is quite complicated as there are many people who only talk about favorite characters through those terms as if you can't appreciate a character without finding said character to be a good wife/husband material. (I don't wanna marry a 10 years old you know, that's extremely wrong.) So I don't have any choice but to talk about my favorite characters through those terms as well, but really try to make people understand my own (very different from the original, I know) definition of it : I love the character and find them appealing (as "undearing" or "very enjoyable", not "attractive").

To me, it's just an ironic expression of: "If they were real, I had a big crush on them personality- and appearance-wise", from my former experiences of crushes I had on people and those I love.
This isn't the case for most characters and people I like personality-wise and find attractive tho. These are more like... friendos? lol
but most crushes only were friends or collegues to me as well. I had a hard time back then to tell people that I like them, but now it's a bit easier, just telling them I find them magnificient and the reason why, and then let it be. At least, they were really happy about that compliment.
That's kinda the same thing? That "hey, I just think you are a great person and that type I would had a crush on (and you look good)."

Basically 3. But MechKingKillbot said it best.

Waifus need to be "wife" material. The ultimate best girl. The one who wouldn't just make for a great friend or girlfriend, but a life partner. That's why Nagisa from Clannad is my waifu. She's pretty much the perfect waifu.

Best girls are in the 2nd category. Characters that you think are cute/attractive and are your favorite in that series. Megumin from Konosuba is a great example of a best girl, but not waifu. Because would you really want to go to jail?

It’s more of a meme to me. The only time I really use the term is in self deprecating jokes with friends who don’t watch anime. Your typical Waifu body pillow jokes etc.

I think actually having an emotional attachment to a fictional character that strong is unhealthy, and I say this out of concern, not to be a dick.

Having favorites is cool. Even having a physical attraction to an animated character is understandable/reasonable. But being so emotionally attached that you obsess over them and refer to them as your spouse with any sort of seriousness behind it, is kind of dangerous territory.
Lolicons are scum.
BABYMETAL is more metal than Metallica.
Naruto is objectively the best anime ever.
HxH 99' is decent. HxH 11' is bad.

But best boys/best girls are used too much time by people to simply refer to favorite character of a certain anime.
But for me those two characters are way above the rest of my favorite characters lol.

LOL no. I mean, tbh I have quite the opposite preferences when it comes to fiction. I simply find such characters more compelling, engaging, interesting. Especially if well written.
As for IRL, I'm a simple girl. I just want a kind, caring and understanding partner in life :3 (which I probably find such guy to be boring if in fiction LMAO, tho not always. It depends on the dynamic once again. And also, character design. I mean, look at Makoto and Shinya. They are such an angel.)

My husbando (Link from LoZ) is the entity I want to shower with love. I just want them to be happy and live their best life. I want them to be healthy and marry who they want to if they want to. I don't want to have sex with them. I want them to be comfy. I just want them to be them and have a good time. I want what's best for them, but if they choose to be a part of shop stupid ship then I'll let them learn from their mistakes--- I mean, I'll respect their choices and watch from the side. My husbando is the one I'm rooting for eternally. I love them unconditionally no matter what they do. I do imagine I'm dating my husbando, but in the end I know that ain't real, I don't deserve them, and I'd much rather they find someone else as long as they make my husbando happy. My husbando is my world, my night, my day.
I do have a ship for my husbando. My husbando is also my favorite character.
He is the character who makes me do more and be better.

Now as for my two waifus (Tenten from Naruto and Ritsuko from Idolmaster), they're kinda more like my actual wives. I would 100% do whatever or let them do whatever to me. They're single and I'm ready. Like straight up if they were real I'd probably actually ask them on a date. Except I wouldn't because I'm weak. But if they asked me out I'd say yes for sure. Like they're the folks I'd want to settle down with. My husbando is kinda more like... I'd like to be their closest friend. My two waifus are like... I'd like to be their one and only.
