What I personally like the most about anime is its sheer variety. There's a vast amount of genres in the anime world. No matter what your preferences are,you are bound to find a genre that matches your preferences.

Most people watch multiple genres rather than sticking to only one genre. But it doesn't mean that they equally prefer all the genres they watch.

Out of all the anime genres, what genre do you prefer/like the most?

I like military and historical stuff the most. Also sci fi since there is actually a lot of overlap between sci fi and military (gundam, lotgh)

I lean towards psychological and shounen. Gory psychological anime is where sits my perfect point of enjoyment.

It's mostly adventure and action. I like when characters travel around the world and never stay in one place for long. The more places they visit during their journey, the better. I also have a weak spot for historical settings.

Hmm, Slice of Life + Shoujo Ai is 2 genre I love, when they are together. Normal it's cute girls doing cute things and some of the characters is liking each another a bit more then friends.
I always love to watch this kind of shows, always makes me smile and feel happy inside.

But, Fantasy aca Isekai is awesome, it's a genre I normal enjoy, only exist a very few of them that I woud say, is not that enoyable.

But I normal just find something random and then watch it, it feels like I have already watched all shows with Cute girls doing cute things and it only exist a very few Isekai that I haven't watch so nowdays I just pick shows based on the profilepicture x)

At the moment I'm really into anime that has some kind of big mystery and interesting plot twists. Particularly if it is set in some alternate reality/fantasy world/sci fi world/dystopian future... etc. Psychological horror elements are a bonus. I quite like closed settings for the mystery too! Like Danganronpa being a psychological horror mystery with 16 characters locked in a school, or Raging Loop being set in an isolated village. NieR Automata also ticks all the boxes for me (Gets a little bit psychological horror at times and the setting is relatively contained with a handful of important characters) I'm aware those are both VNs/games rather than TV shows.

Madoka Magica hits all those for me too. The characters are free to go where they want but the story is limited to minimal characters and a small handful of settings and it has lots of significant twists that make complete sense in the context of the story.

I'm sure I will branch out more once I start getting bored of this. I do with everything else (Music, video games and art).

Fantasy, mystery, action, comedy, but most definitely... supernatural.
Historical, SoL and romance are good ones too.

Shonen and seinen aren't genres imo. They're demographics.

I love the variety more than I love any specific genre, but if I had to pick just one it'd probably be battle shounen since I loved those from day 1 and it's still the genre I find easiest to watch and get hyped about. Even the more mediocre ones are a lot of fun.
I probably regret this post by now.

Mystery, action and supernatural without too much comedy (if it's comedy, I like when it's different than usual or even a bit dark).
I tend to watch slice of life and romance stuff too, but it doesn't get me as hyped as the genres mentioned above.

Otherwise, I like melancholic atmosphere too, like in Shoujo Shuumatsu Ryokou.

Magical girl is legit my whole life.
I sometimes wish being a magical girl was literally my life. Even if it means that being meguca is suffering. I need help.

I also seem to like a lot of romance... specifically shoujo romance...

I like romance because it helps fill the crushing void in my soul that grows every day with the increasing realization that is one less day before I cease to be and there's nothing anyone can do about it, and yet here I am still staring at a bunch of lines on a screen that vaguely resembles human beings instead of helping to solve world hunger or something else useful.

My most preferred above all others, even though there aren't too many great ones around that I have seen, would have to be Thriller. Why? Because whether dealing with organized crime syndicates, spies and intelligence agencies, terrorism, open war, and other forms of conflict they usually show mankind on the individual character level and collective societal level even in a small rustic village at their most desperate and existential. They usually incorporate a sizable helping of action and may even have horror elements, but where they shine is by capturing and maximizing that sense of tension represented in the strategizing and split second confrontations which decide and stand between characters living out their desired life on one hand and facing the ruin of their known world, themselves, their families, and whole societies on the other. I find something so goosebump-inducing, exciting, revelatory, beautiful, and just all around...well, true to its name - thrilling in that. I also like how elusive the thriller is to pin down. How it can borrow from and include a number of genres but has a distinct feel that, when asked to define or describe it, comes down to more of a "You know it when you see it" type understanding. In cinema it historically also used to be called "Suspense".

After Thriller:

- Slice of Life (Seems at first glance like the opposite of Thriller and I suppose it is, but for me it's akin to a yin and yang thing. I can't fully appreciate one without the other. Both are equally valuable to me for different reasons.)
- Drama
- Romance - but specifically transgressive romance (Incest, Age Gap, inter-species, or all of the above)
- Horror
- Historical

Ten years ago I would have said battle shounen.

Today a lot of what I find myself enjoying the most are slice of life shows or psychological thrillers. Leaning much heavier on the SOL side.
