I'm just curious to see - how many of us here are not only avid anime watchers and/or manga readers, but also have a collection of anime figures because we like seeing our waifus/husbandos in (sort of) 3D? I'm actually not new to collecting figures - I've been doing so since 2010, though my collection only really blew up in early 2017 when my life status changed from "broke student living off measly allowance" to "part of the workforce and actually contributing to society and getting paid for it". X'D It might be interesting to know how many of us actually share this expensive af hobby! If you're not a collector yet - are you considering to be one? Or what do you think of collectors in general? For those curious, I do have a myfigurecollection profile where you can see my collection here. |

Yeah i'm really into figures. Exchange rate and custom fees make things so expensive though, which sucks. >_> Here's my profile~ https://myfigurecollection.net/profile/fancyjasper Been into figure collecting for at least 10 years now, but i'm trying to stick with favourite characters/series. Ended up selling a bunch i bought just because they looked nice XD I love all my figures of course, but i do really admire small collections too. I still have quite a bit of shelf space left, so i don't have to pack a bunch of stuff in a box to put in the attic yet! |

I'd like to purchase a figurine but I've been indifferent towards the majority of figures I've seen. They look so meh, don't even look like the character and when you look at the price you know it's a rip-off. Mostly either that or the few that are good-looking are so expensive that you don't even wanna bother (like Berserk figures). Though, I've never wanted to buy a Berserk figure. At the end, I'm just indifferent to collecting figures due to these reasons. I don't think much of collectors like if they're satisfied with purchasing figures that don't even look like the character they're supposed to be, then it's all good. |

When I first started I was buying quantity>quality. but since I'v gained knowledge of the hobby its all about quality>quantity. It's just generally nicer to have the 'best' looking figure from a series rather than buying the cheapest ones, I'd rather look at one beautiful painting then several mediocre ones (+ it saves space on shelves). I don't buy them to specifically support the companies, nor do I buy them to show-off to others. It's just when I sit and look at my collection and each figure; it puts a smile on my own face :D MFC Profile |

Figures are probably the number one way I support the industry. My collection is quite small right now, but that's because I'm saving for my second trip to Akihabara early next year when I will be dropping somewhere around 1k GBP in figures alone. Not too pleased that even more of that will be going to the government instead of the people that deserve the money, what with the tax hike. My collection: https://myfigurecollection.net/profile/YossaRedMage/collection/ The figure I've been looking at recently and I'm seriously tempted to get before my trip next year is this Mash figure. Yes,but i am rarely buying them 'cause i can't afford some that are expensive. I have only figures of Honoka from Love Live,Mami Tomoe and Homura Akemi from Madoka Magica,Shinobu Oshino from Monogatari series and Ryou Machiko from Koufuku Graffiti. I want to buy like 20 or 25 more figures of mai waifus, but i don't have that kind of money so i can't really afford them unless i win like couple hundred K's or millions in lottery. |

Somehow it makes me so happy that there are so many of us :D ^u^b Figure collectors unite! I’ll reply to some of the notable posts here~ fancyjasper said: Yeah i'm really into figures. I still have quite a bit of shelf space left, so i don't have to pack a bunch of stuff in a box to put in the attic yet! I feel ya on the customs fees. TuT;;; Plus with the tax hike in Japan, figures have gotten even more expensive now. Not even AmiAmi can give as much discount as they could - for the first time ever in my collecting career, I’m preordering a nendoroid for 5k+. Before, even if the price indeed was 5k+, AmiAmi discounts bring it down within the 4k+ range. Now, the original price is like 5.5k-6k and so the discounts can only bring it down to like 5.1k give or take. Ugh. TuT I am legit so envious rn, I’m running out of space on the other hand, so much so that I had to box up quite a lot of my You and Hanamaru (Love Live! Sunshine) prize figures TuT But gosh, your collection is wonderful! Thanks for sharing! <3 KatsutoSaki said: I'd like to purchase a figurine but I've been indifferent towards the majority of figures I've seen. I don't think much of collectors like if they're satisfied with purchasing figures that don't even look like the character they're supposed to be, then it's all good. I totally understand your gripe though! It can indeed be very hard to render our 2D waifus and husbandos absolutely perfectly in 3D. This is why I am so very picky with scale figures - I usually only buy ones that really catch my eye and that I know I won’t regret owning. I buy nendoroids (the chibi figures whose faces and poses you can change) instead because they’re pretty faithful to the character design, they’re already in a super-deformed design that you can’t really mess up their face, AND they’re small, compact, and cute. Plus with the cross compatibility between most nendoroids (except maybe those with sculpted facial hair or something), you can exchange their faces and outfits and hairstyles. It’s fun that way. XD Hakisak said: When I first started I was buying quantity>quality. but since I'v gained knowledge of the hobby its all about quality>quantity. I’ve always been somewhat of a smart shopper though so I never really did buy a figure of a character I don’t even know, for example, but my impulse buys were mostly multiple figures of a character I love. Whatever was available and cheaper, I got them just to fill my shelves - and while I’m glad I don’t really regret anything that I bought (except maybe for the shitton of You and Hanamaru prize figures that I bought for the sake of completion), there are so many that I stare at now and think “yeah, that’s nice, but if I could go back in time I would have left it in my wishlist to buy another time so I could focus on getting the ones that really matter.” Thankfully I’m kind of weaning myself off of buying too much though, and I’m at the point where I’m nearly satisfied with my collection, so like you I’ve definitely focused more on quality vs. quantity. :D I found that my passion lies in nendoroids, so I’ve been getting only those (and like, a couple of figmas). And honestly, I have the same thoughts on figure collecting as you do! I do also want to support the industry of course, but yes. My collection is only for me to enjoy and if someone doesn’t like it, tough luck - though if it brings a smile to someone else’s face, then that’s good. XD A_Sad_Dust_Cloud said: I might buy one occasionally if I really like it, but those are few and far between. So far I've only got the one. Money's a huge hurdle to. I've currently got one, and it's this one... I getcha on the lack of money tho, man... One day, though, one day! The figure you’ve got now is fabulous, and there are many others out there that are released and waiting to be released - I’m sure you’ll be able to add to your collection someday ^u^b Hey_Taka-tin_Hey said: Yeah, I buy all the EXQ figures I can. There are many prize figures that are actually almost on par with scales now, though! Have you looked into FuRyu and Sega? I own quite a few prize figures from them and I can say that they can almost rival actual scales. Like okay, obviously they’re not as perfectly sculpted or painted, but for the prize point they really put a lot of effort into getting outfits and faces and accessories right! They’re much better than Banpresto in my opinion. YossaRedMage said: Figures are probably the number one way I support the industry. Even if all of us are avid anime watchers and/or manga readers, not everyone would want to own pretty plastic renditions of their favorite characters. X’D Manga and games seem like a relatively better way to spend your money on in comparison. But figure collecting is a fun hobby for me because I get to find many ways to be creative with it - like unleashing my hidden interior designer side to try and see how I can display my figures nicely, making dioramas and accessories for my nendoroids (those chibi action figures on my profile), doing figure photography and reviews, etc. etc. Xethum said: I wish. Figures are really cool to have. Sucks to be poor. I feel you man! Now I feel like it's a bad investment. In my opinion, anything that isn’t a necessity is a bad investment, I guess. X’D Unless it’s something super profitable, which figure collecting certainly can be. There are some figures (especially limited and/or exclusive) ones that can fetch for hundreds more than its original price. For example now there is this one figure (I forget which one it is, but it’s a 1/4 scale figure of a character in a playboy bunny style) whose original price was upwards of $200, but is now selling for $500-600 in the aftermarket. Or a nendoroid (Elias Ainsworth, if you’re curious) that was originally like $50 that’s selling for upwards of $200 now because he’s so rare. Or a scale figure of Yato from Noragami that was originally $80 I believe, but is now selling for $400 or sth ridiculous. So in a way it’s not such a bad investment. X’D |

No, not really. I have two figurines, coincidentially both of the same character. And neither is on display right now. The main problems with figurines are: 1. They collect dust. If I have a closeable space for putting them I might put them there. If I have room. 2. They're often very expensive. I mean, think about action figures, but now imagine you're paying US$40 and up for an action figure. And some of them cost over US$150. 3. Some of them are kinda tacky. Especially the lewd ones. |

Yes! My significant other and I share a collection, although most of the collection has been curated by myself. Collecting is one of my favorite parts of my anime hobby, and there have been times that figures inspired me to watch the anime they were from so I could decide if I wanted them. A low-key dream is to get a Guinness world record, but we're obviously nowhere near it. Maybe someday in the very distant future lol. One of my goals is to have a Pokemon-themed MIL-suite in my future home for guests to stay in, and everything in it will be Pokemon. I've made extensive lists on MFC of things I want to acquire for it. You also can't really see the Lina Inverse nendoroid from the angle but I assure you she's there. She's standing on top of the box for that other Lina figure. All of my plushies and other misc merch aren't shown either. Yue also kinda ruins the joke I had set up on my top shelf, once I get new shelves I'm gonna move him and Hikaru to a CLAMP-dedicated shelf. Umi and Fuu are also on my to-buy list. |

You raise very valid points, honestly - and I actually do agree with you. And yet I still collect. Maybe I'm just destined to be in this hell X'D But I just don't have that kind of money. At those prices, I might as well save up for a custom marble statue of my favorite character to be placed in the fountain on my estate's front lawn, or something. Fortunately the Figmas, which are posable (arguably even better than those scale figurines), cost less. But they're still around $40-$60 each. (Nendoroids and Pop figurines are Do Not Want in my book.) Also, what are prize figures? Also, who the fuck buys Be@rbricks? I can't figure out who the target audience of that is Honestly, a marble statue of my favorite character on my (non-existent) estate front lawn would be amazing. X'D But yes, you are absolutely right - one has got to be dedicated to drop that kind of money on plastic husbandos. I am one of those dedicated people. X'D (also honestly, figmas are also getting quite expensive these days too - I just preordered the Erwin figma, and he costs close to $90. Granted he comes with a horse, but it's insane how close his price is to actual scale figures, ugh. And yet I still bought him anyway because Erwin lmao someone send help) Prize figures are like scale figures in that they're statues - but they're not scaled (scales usually are 1/7 or 1/8, but these guys can be any size - some are close to 1/7, some can be 1/8 like Banpresto ones), and they're far, FAR less expensive. They usually range from about $7-15, and rarely get expensive in the aftermarket depending on the character. They're actually pretty decent; not $200 quality of course, but for someone who's just beginning and they want a figure of their fave character, they're a good way to start! Also, they're called prize figures because they're usually procured from crane games in Japan. Also, I HONESTLY don't know who tf the audience of be@rbricks are either. They're not even that cute, and they're expensive af. No thanks. Oooh, both look awesome! ^u^b how nice of your mom to buy them for you :D I had my dad buy me yaoi artbooks in Bangkok Animate Store two years ago. And they ocassionally gift me figures - like the super expensive figures I've been wanting and I got for my graduation, plus one scale figure my dad got me for my birthday last year. But otherwise I fund my hobby on my own and my wallet is screaming for mercy HeruruMeruru said: Here's a quick pic of (most of my) current collection, it doesn't include all of them (running out of shelf space) and lighting, quality, and angle is kinda bad but here ya go: Not shown are my Sakura Kinomoto, Syaoran Li, and Gon Freecss figmas, my Trigun revoltechs, my D-Arts Beelzemon, my Good Smile Kino scale figure (though you can see the box if you look closely), one of my misc Vash figures, my Spike Spiegel S.H Figuarts, my Ghaleon punching puppet, and my Estelle Bright nendoroid. Your collection looks great though!!! Yue is absolutely beautiful. I'd wanted to get him but lack of space and money prevented me from doing so TuT Also, I totally second the idea of a separate CLAMP shelf. The Queens deserve a whole shelf dedicated to just their works ^u^b I have two shelves of manga/artbooks dedicated just to CLAMP and CLAMP merch, and I used to have a CCS-dedicated shelf - but space issues prompted me to break them apart so I can fit other figures in my cabinet TuT Oh well, maybe when I get more space. Pakumen- said: No, but I would really want to. There is some figures that looks pretty cool for me, like the Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann or the Berserker Armor. The thing is that I have to spend money on another things. Life is kinda expensive D: Ugh I feel you so much TuT Hang in there! It's also the reason why I've been slowing down on collecting and really evaluating my collection and what I still want to add to it. it's an expensive af hobby indeed TuT I hope one day you get to have the figures you want, though! nyugvo6 said: yes. it's my 2nd biggest hobby right next to anime. I collect action figures mostly. figma, shf and the like. it REALLY sucks lately, I started in 2009 and there was a huge price hike 3 years ago, which made everything 3x as expensive and it's still not over. companies went crazy with greed I swear. on the plus side, not many interesting figures these days. no more anime figs, only gatcha, vidya and memes. fml. I feel you. Anime figure collecting really took over my life in 2017 and man, those prices are insanity incarnate TuT Alter used to be known for fair pricing but now they're one of the most expensive ones. Sure they have the quality to justify it but argh - I did NOT enjoy paying like 7k for Makoto, Haruka, and Rin Free scales and then suddenly 12k for Rei and Sousuke lmfao. Plus figmas can climb up to 7k now! Erwin just tipped the scales at 9k (although I guess it's fine because he comes with a horse? Argh no it's not fine GSC have mercy on my wallet) and it really does show no signs of slowing down. Especially with the JP tax hike. TuT |

gwendal738 said: Awwww yis, my friend. You have great taste in figures ^u^b And I know right? I totally feel you. I'm glad I'm in sort of a collecting hiatus/slowing down with it in general but man, those price tags are insane now. TuT and yet I still pay up anyway because I need my husbandos okay Haha thanks, same to you girl (・ω<) got some nice boys in your collection. For real though. Like some of the figures I bought defenitly shouldn't be the price I paid for it...but resisting is hard the need for some is big yes. Especially if you're into male figures for which companies like to slap on higher prices (and smaller scales) because "niche" public I'm still laughing at what they did for the Hatsune Miku Memorial Dress scale though. Oh GSC. |

I don't spend over 30-40€ for an anime figure and I'm sometimes working in a merch shop, when the owner needs me there. I only own four figures (and a few chibi figures) so far and they are more decoration than everything else. Also I have high "standards", like a beautiful face, no lewd version, good pose etc. The figure I like the most so far is the one from Mami from Madoka, because she really looks beautiful. Unfortunately there are some series where it's hard to get figures and they are way too expensive. Since I'm too lazy to upload a picture, this version. <3 Meau94 said: What a coincidence, I also started collecting in 2010, and only really blew out around 2017 too. I have few Gunpla models. I would buy them more often but they aren't sold in my country so I can buy them only once in a while. |

Figures, no, not so much. I have 5 that I got as bonus material from some DVDs and 8 others that I bought because I really like the characters, but that's it. I'd rather spend my money on more practical things I can use like DVD, Blu-ray, novels, and manga, plus figures can very pricey too. I am a big Anime DVD and Blu-ray collector and and I have smaller collections of manga, light novels, and Anime OSTs. |

I have a couple. I'm not an avid collector, though. I'm not willing to spend a fortune on a figure. Luckily, good-looking Gintama figures are relatively cheap to come by. |

Some of my collection. I started collecting a few figurens around 2.5 years ago. I started out buying cheap once from Amazon where the quality were not so good. Even own some shity very shity once from ordered from China. But after that I saw how shity there were I started out buying more from AmiAmi. I'm not that proud over my Jalter figuren from China, that looks like it was a child that made it. But if anything I love my Raikou figurens and looking forward my new onces that I'm in waiting for. Best part, my mother once asked me if I were going to play with them as they were barbie dolls :D |
