| Ok, so I am 21 years old and I've been watching anime for 5 years. Most of the admins of the anime pages (on instagram) I follow for news on seasonals are 15 year olds. Sometimes I feel I can't relate to their taste in anime. It was more fun to watch school anime or any anime about certain group of teenagers when I was a teenager myself. Anyway, that's just my opinion. What do you think? Do you still enjoy anime (or certain genre) like you used to? Is there an age limit after which watching anime becomes boring? |

| No dude I am 23 and I still do watch anime, Just modify your genre to a more sophisticated one like you can move to seinen and tactics based animes. |

Embrace your new taste if it started to change. Theirs too, will change when they've watched enough shows. Do you still enjoy anime (or certain genre) like you used to? No. Is there an age limit after which watching anime becomes boring? No. Currently 28, will turn 29 this December. Started watching anime seriously around 2012 which means I started at age 21. Started with Naruto but grew out of any shounen battle after watching Fairy Tail. Right now, I watch almost any genre except sports, horror/gore, shoujo and yaoi. But I like CGDCT (or roughly, SoL) the best, followed up closely by psychological shows which I only watch sometimes. That's my experience. Hope it helps. |

| I'm 32 and enjoy nearly all genres of anime. (Though I tend to gravitate toward dark, dramatic stuff.) Speaking of school anime...they make me long to relive the fond memories of back when I was in school. Watching them is like doing it all over again, but in a more interesting way. | To the OP...you don't seem that "old" to me. I grew up watching anime (and even though I'm 31) I'll continue to do so. The great thing about anime is that there is something for just about anyone. That's why in Japan, you still see grown men and women reading mangas, watching anime, and collecting stuff. Enjoying this is no different than any other hobby out there for entertainment. With all that said, I did notice that over the years my preference in anime has changed. When I was a teen I got really into the romance and ecchi stuff...but now I've grown out of it and am more into series or shows that are more relatable - more grounded in realism, despite the work still being fiction. I also noticed that as I get more experience watching anime, I can better discern the quality of a story. |

| You are likely to tire of certain tropes as you get older and have seen them too often, but anime has a lot of genres you can experience, so I would not set a limit. Teen high school melodramas appeal very little to me, unlike when I initially started. They just seem samey and unrealistic. It is a natural sign of refined taste, yes. I still like shows about cute girls doing nothing after all these years though. |

| I just don't like the holy anime rule. "Thy shalt not be an anime protagonist if you are over the age of 16 even if it doesn't make sense for your character to be that young." It absolutely doesn't make sense. 16-year-olds do not have very complex personalities and much life experience so needless to say they aren't fit to be the main character in certain stories that require a lot more mature protagonist. Even if you make them act as if they are adults in their 30s it would still look absurd. Back in the days that didn't really bother me that much to be honest. But now I guess I have to be more careful with what anime I plan to watch. Artists who undermine their own work for the sake of profit are a huge red flag for me in general. |

Chiibi said: @149597871 Hmm watch more seinen and josei series; the protagonists are usually adults. Young-ish adults but yeah, still adults....cause guess who the target audience is? Yea, I already said that it's for the sake of profit which is dumb since you don't need to unrealistically create your characters so they can be as close as possible to your average viewer, it is very unwise to do so if the setting isn't one where a 16-year-old would have place in. I can already imagine that if everything was an anime probably characters like Han Solo, Tyrion Lannister or Tony Stark would've been some mid/high school kids as well. Ironically some of these movies/tv series are a lot more successful and more popular among young people than any anime would ever be. So yea, keep making stuff for young people, just keep in mind that your characters and story have to make sense. School setting where everyone is like 15 years old - fine. A 15-year-old being the leader of a rebellion against an "evil" empire that also happens to have another 15-year-old as an emperor - no thanks. It makes even less sense considering that some of these are rated R so you can't even say they are made for little children. |

| Yea ik some Insta weeb meme page admins are like 16 or so and I felt dumb for enjoying their stolen content (at least they got taste). But yeah I currently watch anime because I find it to be stupidly entertaining (at least with those super popular seasonal shows, only few are exceptions). It's like you are enjoying something that you're way too old for, and it's fun. There are also anime that are very mature, so it doesn't really take into account how old you are. |

| You're never too old to enjoy something. It might be a little awkward being apart of a community (if you're using MAL as that sort of thing) where the age group is much younger, but for the hobby itself, age is irrelevant. I'm in mid 20s, now having to support myself in the real world, yet I still enjoy sitting back and watching teenage kids with superpowers take on the world. I'm sure that says something about me, but fuck it. |

They're made for teenagers and teenagers like to fantasize. If you're watching anime, there's already a suspension of disbelief. In animation, you have no limits so why not go all out? | For me, watching anime doesn't require being of a certain age. Just because certain genre of anime has people of a certain age watching them, doesn't mean I can't watch them just because I'm not the same age as them, even if I like that certain anime or genre. I watch what I like and I don't care if I'm the only 23 years old between teenagers of 15-18 years old. I like what I like and nobody has the right to tell me otherwise. |

| I'm 33, and am pretty much a lifer when it comes to watching anime. Even though I do have times where I feel a deep sense of emptiness come over me after completing an anime. It really depends on the series, and that is why it's important to always plan out what anime to watch carefully. I think for people my age, even people in their early 20's (but also depending on their level of maturity) it would be a good idea to get into more darker themed anime with deeper, more sophisticated plots. |

| There isn't an age limit to what you like I am 22 and I actually got back into anime after falling out of it in HS when I was around 19. I don't really understand people who feel they need certain characters to be of a certain age. Sure I would like more anime featuring adults but that's just to add more variety. I would argue that 21 is probably around the average for this community anyway. My favourite story is still the exact same it was when I was 10 LOTR both the films and books. As for anime genres I used to be really into battle shonen and I am not as much into it as I used to be but I still enjoy them. There are also other shows like ambient atmospheric slice of life like Mushishi, CGDCT shows like Yuru Camp that I appreciate more today that I wouldn't have back in my teens or as a kid. |
