I’m pretty sure some people already know this, but what most people have yet to grasp is that the entirety of Fruits Basket is basically trying to teach us the moral of learning to love yourself as an individual.

Bullying is quite a touchy subject that can get me physically upset, but it has the potential to formulate well-told stories. Many people nowadays are not able to love themselves due to being continually exposed to the verbal criticism or physical abuse from others, and until someone reaches out and says they like or love them in one way or another, they will only see the bad and start to grow self-loathing or hatred.

Tohru as a main heroine helps with the teaching of that moral in this series due to her innocence and warming personality, and because she’s so open to others (perhaps too much for her own good at times), the characters that become associated with her are basically influenced by her sense of positivity and optimism.

It’s sad that some people really can’t acknowledge or recognize the morales being taught and blow this show off as some mediocre Shoujo installment. The reboot is really doing the source material a huge favor so far.

yes the tigar zodiac . i love tigers and was waiting to see who it was , but dam poor kid , don't matter what generation or year kids will still have the trouble of being bullied especially now due to cyber bulling , which is completely uncalled for and cowardly .

hope we see more of her in the future especially her relationship with her mom , would have been nice to see her reunite with her mom now that she started talking again

I don't know the dub/sub are from others, but in spanish is "discrimitation" or "intimidation". But I am sure Tooru said Ijime. So basically Kisa is suffering from bullying. I can conclude, pople are really cruel. If you are different (skin, eye color, etc) people obsessed with that and you are victim of bullying. Most cases.

Monkey is comming!

this was honestly one of the more relatable episodes for a lot of us. i feel that so many people watching totally understand what kisa's going through, even if the episode itself didn't dive too deep into bullying itself.

definitely very excited to see that the show is really coming into its own now. we're nearing the end of the first season so i'm excited to see where this takes us.

I really liked this episode. I was genuinely invested in Kisa's (and Yuki's) recovery from their past. Bullying was such a personal issue for me, so watching Tohru, Yuki, and Hatsuharu help Kisa find her voice was lovely. I can't wait for the next episode!!!

Good Lord, the third episode in a row with long, uninterrupted monologues to sad piano music. I know it comes with the territory but sheesh, this is too much.

Kisa is... what? Eight years old at most? Why is she going to school with a thigh gap?

This is slowly becoming one of my favorite anime. Natsuki Takaya would make a good therapist if she didn't become a mangaka and even though I haven't read it I feel like the anime creators are doing her work justice.

Again this episode hits very close to home. It's almost like Fruits Basket reads my mind and browses until it finds something I am or used to be insecure about. I've been bullied for all of elementary and portions of kindergarten and middle and high school so I know what Kisa went through. Tohru, Yuki and Hatsuharu handled it in a wonderful way though.

"It's not like I suddenly became stronger nor did anything change. My body still trembles, but I'll keep facing my fears. What's important is the desire to improve which roots from your weakness" - Yuki

this quote literally gave me chills down my spine, this is such an important matter. I love this goddamn anime so much. it attacks every aspect of real life in a fantasy world. whether you relate to it or not, you might know some people who are going through some shit. and I think that is awe inspiring <3

Kisa is really adorable! they way kisa and tohru bonded was really heartwarming. Also, to me it seems like yuki was raped by akito in past just by looking at the way he fears akito.

I have a few questions ...

Why are Hatsu and Kisa so close? Are they first cousins?

Tohru has a closed lolicon?

Where is Kyo ?!

The next arch will be about the androgynous son of the hotel owners?

1 It was stated in the episode that Kisa’s behavior of not talking reminded Haru of how Yuki used to be. And as Haru is very close to Yuki, he felt he had to protect her.

2 What?????

3 Kyo was in the episode? He was there when Tohru was figuring what to eat for dinner. He just didn’t understand what was going on with Kisa, so he wasn’t there trying to help her.

It was a joke, because her reaction to Kisa's cuteness seemed funny to me.

So, I was just inattentive while watching this episode? Okay, thanks for the clarification.

I loved this episode. I was about to release some tears. We have all gone through a moment of weakness in our lives, I remembered seeing this episode. And again, this anime leaves me a great message, regarding that.
Tohru and Yuki couldn't say better words of encouragement than they said. It was something really beautiful, and that puts you to reflect.
I'm glad that in the end, Kisa will regain her courage. In the process and thanks to Tohru and Kisa's example, Yuki also learned a great lesson.
Kisa is a pretty girl, I hope that the next time we see her things are going much better.

It was a very satisfying episode. I really love this anime.

"What is important is the desire to improve that derives from weakness." How important it is to have the personal desire to improve, and also to have someone who accepts you as you are, who loves you.

Things are happening. You are being introduced to characters and bonds are forming. This episode, in particular, showed us how much Yuki has grown and opened up from where he was at the start of the series. He took a great step forward this episode as well, by taking up the position of Student Council President, which will play a role in his future story line. There has also been a lot of foreshadowing for future events in pretty much every episode.

Fruits Basket is a series about characters and bonds. The characters and relationships basically *are* the story. That being said, we'll see a pick up in drama around the end of this season and towards the beginning of the next. This first season is all about character intros and backstories. It's setting the groundwork for the drama and romance that will be coming in later seasons.

So, I would say, hold on a bit longer. At least until the end of this season if you can. This first season is going to be the most SoL aspect of Furuba, from the second season onward though, the drama and romance will really start to kick in.

It’s a slice of life anime. It’s about characters developing bonds and romance. The major romance though doesn’t start until season 2. This first season is just introducing the characters. Maybe you just aren’t into slice of life shows?

Really touching and emotional episode, this time around!

Kisa’s been through a lot but it’s fortunate for her that Tohru, Yuki and Haru are there for her during her tough times. Momoji’s relief over the fact that Kisa’s mother at least cares about her was seriously heartrending and a mixed bag of many other feelings, I suppose. Yuki empathising with her condition and monologuing was really touching too. Good thing she’s able to talk better now and is up for the challenge. Yuki, on the other hand, is up for it too and that’s great to see! I’m sure something more grievous and painful is awaiting but this is good signs as of now.

Some really nice comedic and feels-good moments along-side too. Kisa’s fondness of Tohru and vice-versa was really adorable to see! Tohru’s relations with the Soma Family is seriously impressive, about time Akito intervenes? But anyway, that aside, that scene of Yuki resting on Tohru’s shoulder and then consequently gaining enough courage was nice to see. Kyo’s sharp tongue hurting Kisa was a little aggravating but good thing ol’ Shigure was up for the task.

Meanwhile, it seems as though the quality of the show is diminishing by the episode. No sound effects of the rain at the start followed by consistent poor shots of character drawings here and there, hopefully this doesn’t mean that the folks over at TMS Entertainment are under too much stress and scheduling issues.

Definitely looking forward to more of this greatness!

I'm really glad I'm not the only one who noticed Momoji's relief. As a mother myself, I still really feel for him. I was getting all teary eyed just thinking about the relationship he has with his own mother.

___ ___ ___

As for bullying... I am sure most of us here have it once in our life in some way.

Strangely I got bullied in pretty much every year of School except for College. (started from Kindergarten really)

Tho even more Strangely... in the last year of Elementary, Middle and High School... people stopped bullying me, mainly cause I somehow got pity from the biggest bully in school and they end up protecting me instead from other bullies, LOL... really weird. (happened in all 3 school stages...)

In Kindergarten, I got bullied by being blamed for stuff I didn't do and the teacher punished me for it. One time I was made to stand even tho I said I need to go Pee, and the teacher think I was lying and I pee'd my pants. Teacher apologized tho. But didn't do anything about the blaming.

In Elementary, people poured water down my pants while I slept during the noon-time nap. And when I woke up, ppls laughed and said I pee myself... This continued for 1 year, 2nd year the biggest bully in class (also apparently the tallest and strongest) decide to befriend me and protect me from other bullies. However near the end of 3rd grade, me and my family moved to Canada - was not due to bullying, we were moving to America sooner or later)

Elementary continued in Canada, and the school decide to pull me back a grade because I never finished 3rd year. We ending up moving before the end of 3rd year again... to America. Didn't get bullied in Canada, except for that weird neighbor kid that attempted to blame me for his broken bike, which I actually was going to fix it for him, but nope asshat Canadians. And the School apparently kicked me out of ESL because I literally couldn't understand "Do You Understand"... I had no idea what "Understand" meant...

And Elementary continued again in America... lol... not so much bullying, except for the Teacher cause back then there's still a lot of Racial Profiling in America. And the teacher blamed me for a lot of stuff even tho a lot of other kids were doing the same things, in which back then I was just copying them cause I was bad at English and didn't know what to really do.

In Middle School I was doing pretty good, except apparently I was the shortest and looked dwebby and had a "roller" backpack. Some kids decide to make fun of me and keep on playing "keep the backpack away from the dwebby kid" while I attempted to chase them to get my backpack back. However the 2nd year of Middle School suddenly turned into my favor as again, the strongest bully in school turned into my friend and I hanged out with him and his group during lunch. This lasted until end of Middle School. Also apparently I got famous near the end of Middle School to the point where literally everyone knew me... including new people coming into the school, no idea how that happened.

In High school, it wasn't so much as bullying, more like I was a "loner" that had no friends to hang out with. Sit in a corner while eating lunch by myself... But some ppls made fun of me for it.
Tho again, in 2nd year of High School, the most popular guy in our year decided to talk with me and we got pretty friendly with each other. Tho the teachers was kinda mean at me... especially the French class teacher cause I sucked at learning languages. (yea, I pretty much never got a B or higher in any English class in my entire life, including College)
In the 4th year of high school, some ppls decide to indirect bully me by recommending me to join some weird "enforcer" club that the school have (and it's a pretty big thing so I can't really quit or it'll look bad on my report card/ record), where the "enforcers" learn to deal and stop others from fighting or arguing... which isn't my strong suit as I sucked at being social, so I pretty much struggled with this.

___ ___ ___

yea, that's my life story, or at least part of it.

The other parts are social relationships (which every single one ends in failure in every single school year) and neighborhood relationships (which sucked as I sucked at being social) - That's the summary, don't want to turn this into a novel, which I technically could, lol.

Aand, Tohru win's another Souma- more like person's heart. As expected of her.
"Chala-chalalaโ™ช Chala-chalalaโ™ช" though, Kyo going "what's that song" was hilarious
When Kisa cried and finally spoke, that scene was powerful. Her going to school again was touching.
Seriously tho, why is Kyo the most popular character according to MAL? Tohru is the one who's been leaving the strongest impressions since episode 1. On the other hand, Kyo has only shown that he can be somewhat annoying whenever he left an impression.

its because of Kyo’s backstory and development. He has the best development of all the characters in my opinion. In season two you will see.

Really touching episode with a very heartwarming conclusion. Really liked how the "bullying" topic was approached and handled. Not to mention that the development Yuki received was very appreciated as well. Especially during the scene where he decided to open up to Kisa. The way he helped her by using his own experience to encourage her to try her hardest was simply beautiful.

Guess I'm the oddball here. Along with Momiji's episode, I'm disappointed with how they deliver Tohru to us. This episode has driven it home for me that it's not taking care of how they present our protagonist, and it's probably not going to get any better, at least in this season... For example, her wailing loudly at the end, with comedic effect, honestly took me by surprise and felt out of place. I miss the impact that her words and inner monologue should have instead of casually passing over them. That's my biggest critique. You can't have a Furuba without a Tohru.

Kisa took a backseat to Yuki and because of that her story doesn't have the memorable heaviness that it should. Actually, it feels like everyone is taking a backseat to Yuki? The balance of who gets attention and when is way off. It's affected Kyo's charm, too. I was looking forward to this episode since it was one of my favorites in the old one, the way it handled the subject of bullying was mature yet kind to Kisa. Reactions to her here were a little comedic, but comedy is something this version doesn't know how to handle, so it falls flat. The angles are weird sometimes, like when Yuki was looking at Tohru and naked Kisa from far away so you only see his hand, but the sparkly smoke remained on the floor. Wtf? The care the old one took into caring for Kisa by having a piece of cloth draped over her was a small, loving detail. And it coming from Tohru showed so much about her heart.

If I were to describe this version, it's a shallow and cold imitation of what Fruits Basket actually is. I love the series so I just cling onto a small hope that they treat the second act with more care.

I also like the part when she saw Haru soaking wet bcs of rain, she didn't hesitate to wipe him using her hanky (yeap little things like that) and she doesn't seem to mind when Kisa follows her around.

I've been watching the series with a friend, and the two of us have enjoyed every episode so far. This episode really touches on a sensitive topic, which I think many people have experienced in some way: bullying. I was certainly not pleased with Kisa's teacher telling her to "try harder to make friends," because if it were that simple, she wouldn't have been so hurt. There are certainly people at school who are just plain mean, and if they absolutely do not want to change, they won't. -Although, I also understand that the teacher probably does not know the full story, but it's still not right to make assumptions like that. Hopefully, Kisa has a happier school life, because it's not fair for her to be bullied for her appearance.

I also appreciate Tohru for the way she spoke with Kisa's mother. When you're bullied, you can feel ashamed and you don't always know how to talk about it. But someone who tells you, "It's okay," can make a difference where you feel loved and supported. People aren't generally taught how to embrace their vulnerabilities. I'm glad that Yuki also reflected on himself, and he decided to take the position of student council president. It's easy to see any bad qualities in yourself and hate yourself, while I agree that you can begin to love yourself if someone else does. People's comments can really highlight the traits you have that you never noticed. <3

I was also touched by Momoji's empathy. He's so mature. I still feel sad when I think of Momoji's mother rejecting him, yet he's fully accepted his situation for the way it is. He doesn't feel jealous towards others who have doting mothers, and he can place himself in other people's shoes. - It was sad to hear that other members of the Soma family (Hatsuharu and Kyo) also experienced bullying for their appearances. :( And I think Momoji wasn't bullied for his appearance because folks in the story tend to be nervous around "foreigners" (like the gang who got intimidated when they saw Momoji at the end of episode 16, and ran away after he spoke German).

What an inspirational episode. I feel like a lot of people (including myself) have been through that quiet time in their lives.
