I like isekai and I like things that are comforting. Shielbro is a perfect combo of these and so far I love it.

Are you currently playing any anime games on your phone. I'm playing "Honkai Impact 3rd".

Thanks.

I only wrote it on a whim but thank you very much!

Yeah TPN is intense, basically every chapter has you at the edge of your seat. I don't think the anime is doing as good of a job at that as the manga.

Fire Force is not finished and is getting an anime though haha

If you like Fire Force so much, you should probably read more shounen manga. (Not saying it's bad, but I realized it might come off that way. Mostly just confused why you don't check out more manga.)

I'M SORRY IT TOOK SO LONG, had to catch up on 2018 shows to make the top 5 list.

I will only speak of the truth! If you can predict what I will say, you have come close to the truth! Or something.

Boogiepop the only show I have started so far, tbh. At least one positive review delivered for seasonals already.

I've always felt that the point of the the twist wasn't to shock the viewer like Neverland was. Neverland is a horror/thriller so it's meant to do that. Shield on the other hand presents itself as your standard isekai fantasy in the first half of the episode, then subverts the viewers expectations in the 2nd half. I think the point it tries to emphasize is the fact that the world is unfair, full of disgusting scum and ultimately always against you. I don't know what you meant by the "presentation being off" so if you could explain that then I might be able to grasp what you meant by that.

This next part is just my outlook on this:

I think managing expectations is a big part of a series premiere. I try not to go into shows with high expectations that I haven't read the source material for simply because ultimately you DON'T know what to expect and setting the bar high is just a bad idea. I prefer to keep a neutral state of mind and set my expectations for the series AFTER the premiere. For example, Neverland is a show that was deliberately trying to portray a shocking twist. They gave you the innocent and friendly setting but you could always feel there was something insidious lurking, which you don't see until the end. But for Shield Hero the twist is one that the viewer should have expected (because they deliberately try to portray Naofumi and naive to the viewer), and instead of being shocking it is instead emotionally resonant for the viewer (in the sense that you can put yourself in his shoes and feel his despair).

It sure is a blast even after only one week, seeing some of my favourite series get adapted is a great feeling and it seems like that will continue not just for this season but 2019 in general.

As far as first impressions go, I've been really happy with all of them. Kaguya-sama is very well directed and really captured the comedic timing of the manga. They captured both the cute and sadistic side of her as well as portraying Shirogane's (mostly) levelheadedness and Fujiwara's complete obliviousness to the situations.

The Promised Neverland also has that superb atmosphere and tone to it and the characters are so well-animated that no scene feels static at all, which we really got to see up close at the end there with the horror moments. I feel like I'll have to see a bit to make a judgement on it but so far so good.

Finally The Rising of the Shield Hero which I was happiest with of all... Kinema Citrus really seems to be putting it a lot of effort with the series just from the first episode alone. It feels like a passion project with those amazing visuals and backgrounds that really bring the world to life. And the acting has been nothing short of superb on Naofumi's part. Not to mention the music is just godly. I feel like we've got a good road ahead.

Anyway those 3 have really impressed me and met my expectations so far. And seeing the positive and loving reception to all of them is just an awesome feeling. Can't wait to see more of that with the seasons to come.

How did you find them?

Thanks, it took me a lot of time to make that review.
