How jaded have you become compared to the first time you watched anime?

Interesting how everexposure to a medium lets you watch a few anime that blows away your preconceptions of what a good "anime" is by just being so great of an experience to you that it drastically affects how you view your chinese cartoons. Take me for example, I was actually quick to rate anything highly as long as it entertained me but now ever since watching the first season of Rakugo, I've been slowly changing what I find as "good". And now I'm at a point where I have a solid idea of what a "masterpiece" is for me that I have quite a hard time finishing anime that just fall flat. I think I've become quite jaded and choosy with anime nowadays. And if you asked me if I'll become this way 2 years ago I would actually laughed in your face.

Is this how is it for you too ppl?

Everyone gets Jaded if they do too much of anything.

For me personally, I've probably retained most of the enthusiasm that I had when I started watching. Although I find myself looking for good watches and not just watches.

Basically quality is becoming more important as I watch more anime.

Too jaded. I have a hard time just finishing most shows nowadays, never mind the enjoyment factor. It would be nice to be able to go back to being enthusiastic about every show, but way too late for that now.

I find it too hard to really enjoy an anime anymore and I hate it.
I want to the old, noob anime watcher me back.

When I started watching anime I had the energy to marathon long shows like Bleach and Fairy Tail. I do not have that kind of energy anymore, but I think it's a good thing. Otherwise I would still be wasting my time... I think it's much smarter to watch more shorter shows rather than a few long ones.

When it comes to raitings, I definitely have lowered the scores for some of the shows I watched when I started with anime 8 years ago. I think I still like them as much as I did then. There's just more shows to compare to so the perspective is different.

Do I get bored and unamused a lot while watching anime and reading manga after spending with the industry for 7-8 years? No, not really. I am the type of guy who gets stuck into something that I like for a while and anime being the diverse and decrepit medium that it is, I have a lot to see till I feel like I have nothing else to see. So many things to see, so many things to see again in a different version and still ending up liking it.

Yeah, I can totally relate to that. Two years ago I would be super enthusiastic about anything I watched and would binge-watch any anime, but today finishing a lot of the anime I start became a shore. Especially in genres like fantasy/isekai and high school that are so repetitive. I would also be super hyped for sequels to anime such as AoT or Shokugeki no Soma but now I just feel like "well, another season".

But hey, I'm still positive and I still love anime, even though recently I have started reading a lot of manga and lost a bit of interest in anime for now.

We are not "jaded". We simply take a bit of time in order to avoid watching/reading/making something just for the sake of filling up our time. And it works this way for everything, not only japanese pastimes.

I thought that a masterpiece was something unique and not something that fills in a certain recipe. Even if you already encountered one, the next one will be nothing like it and wouldn't be recognized as such simply by crossing a list based on the previous case.

As opposed to being jaded, I'm far more enthusiastic about anime than my first years of watching (which started in the mid 90s).

I'm starting to get sick of the boring, typical anime high school romance recently like Kimi ni Todoke and Tsuki ga Kirei. There may be exceptions though.

Now, I search for romance anime that has a bit of a twist into it or has comedy like Lovely Complex or Golden Time. It depends though.

Help, I'm hooked into the Fate series (not all) and am obsessed with Shirou x Saber!
Also, forever hoping for a ufotable remake of the Fate route!

THe more anime I watch the lower my average score gets.and sometimes when I rewatch anime, I thought were amazing back when I started watching anime I sometimes retroactively lower my old scores by 1/2 points just because now my standards are higher.

Most likely. If I would've been on here even 5 or so years ago, I'd probably have an average score of 8.00+ and now it's heading to a 6.

I fail to follow how having a more balanced scale translates to being jaded. I wouldn't recommend listening to the people who act like 6 is a low score to give something.

Same here. No doubt. Some even as far as accusing of hating anime, which is far from the truth. I still can enjoy anime, but I guess I am more sensitive to something I dislike or badly executed.

I would've given all my favorites and nostalgia stuff high scores just because I valued them at one point but now I know most of them were pretty trash and I don't need to give stuff a 10 just BECAUSE.

And I'm not saying a 6 is a low score, I'm saying I've become more acquitted to viewing media in a more critical lense.

Anime helped me cope with my depression and anxiety, so I think I matured a little and became a bit more zen. I stick to what I like, so I'm actually less cynical and jaded than I used to be in general. Unless you are the kind of person who sends death threats to a creator because your ship isn't canon, then chances are I won't desire to hurt you ^_^

I don't think I've become jaded so much as I've become a little "too experienced" or "too aware" as I watch stuff. I actually would like to go back to when I'd seen less stuff and thus was more willing to basically anything and take in a fresh and even more unjudgemental view than I do now (which may be funny to some people since I'm probably already less judgemental than average when I watch stuff, because I go into a show wanting to appreciate it and wanting it to "succeed" at giving me enjoyment).

Like, nowadays, I watch one episode, and I feel an odd urge to comment on it to people, which inevitably means some degree of assessing/evaluating what I watched. I used to do this only long after watching a show, and based on the emotions that I'd end up feeling through watching it. But now I do it a bit after each episode, and I also do it sooner after finishing a show. I still tell myself to hold off on rating a show if I've only recently finished it, but it's still kinda bugging me that I think about rating it; my reactions in the past used to be more "natural" and spontaneous. And allowing more room for "nothing" to happen in one episode only to build up to something much later.

I sometimes ask myself, would hanging out less with fellow anime fans, help me in this regard. Unfortunately, it's hard for me to stuff this genie back in its lamp.

I've become quite jaded. When I first joined this site my mean score was an 8.73 and now it's a 4.53. Consuming more titles in any medium will result in your standards for what is "good" and "bad" to evolve.

I don't think i've become jaded, I think its just that I like a certain genre of anime and I like a certain pace now that I've gotten so used to a certain genre that I constantly try to find anime from.

Not much, after all holding up everything to the standard of the best things I've seen would be completely pointless and dumb and setting yourself up for guaranteed disappointment. All I really requite is things to pass the time, if they're better then average that's just a bonus.

Depends on my mood at the time and the series. Sometimes I'll be fully enticed by a series and genuinely enjoy it like I used to while other times it will feel like a complete drag.

I am definitely more aversive to the medium's usual tropes now. There was a time where I could tolerate the friendship speeches, the numerous panty shots and the token lolis, but I just find them grating now.

I'm more jaded towards battle shonens now

Back then, I would've thought BnHA was the best show of all time, and now I just can't stand that show (despite it being a very good show with phenomenal production value) because I no longer want to watch or read battle shonens

However, I'm open to everything else tho

As times gone on the only thing that's changed is that I've become more generous with the raiting. Used to believe a masterpiece needed to be a perfect story. had watched anime growing up like dragon ball z and one piece, but my interest only spiked once I got too the pain arc on naruto (which was as far as the series got).
Than I screwed myself over by watching clannad as my first short anime and than afterstory which hit the masterpiece barrier in my mind.
Trying to put anything on the same level made so many anime fall short in my eyes, but eventually I started raiting every anime more fairly. And I feel the more I watched anime through the years (especially the bad ones), the more appreciative I became for anime that was good.
But I will lose interest if the story is straight garbage, have to at least get that right or I just won't waste my time in giving it a chance. Take re:creators as a example, story seemed good hence why I watched it despite it be bad.

I saw the thread topic without reading the first post and made this image about how jaded anime has made me due to all the disturbing content I've seen.

This one is also relevant. lol

Having seen many thousands of anime episodes, it's only natural that my standards would evolve. I have a much better idea now of what makes a masterpiece. However, I am able to enjoy most anime I watch, including the crappy ones. I actually removed the scores on my list, for various reasons.

Not very. I mean yeah, everyone has to go through their elitism phase, but at the end it's just going a full circle. Now I'm more interested in function than "goodness" and I'm much more accepting that anime is just a side-dish and sometimes you gotta go that extra mile for something to be worth it. I'd never blame an anime for my boredom.

I think that 'tired' is the better term (a t least for me).

When I see a cliche that I've seen a thousand times developing I usually prepare myself for a nap or consider putting the show on hold. Also, when I watch long running shounen shows I fast forward thru fights I don't care about. Sorry but I don't have the patience anymore.
