I was originally gonna make a thread on pyramid sets and training to failure and then I remembered this is MAL...

So yeah let's try something a little more general. What do you think about muscles in general? Do you think they're ugly or unnecessary? Do you make gainz on the daily? Do you catch mussels along your local seashore and grill those bitches up? Do you crush your enemies, see them driven before you and hear the lamentations of their women?

after a certain point they're blatantly unattractive, anti-aesthetic, and appeal to only the most bottom of the barrel girls that would probably fuck anything anyway.

this is the ideal male body:

obviously you want abs that are a little more defined and can get away with a small amount of more muscle to your upper arms, but that's it, anything else and your pretty much signaling how much you want to fuck other muscular guys like you.

Oh maybe, maybe it's the clothes we wear
The tasteless bracelets and the dye in our hair
Or maybe, maybe it's our nowhere towns or our nothing places
But we're trash, you and me
We're the litter on the breeze
We're the lovers on the streets
Just trash, me and you
It's in everything we do
It's in everything we do

depends on what type of muscles they are and how they look. overly overly excessive muscles never tend to look good (i.e. steroid sized, artificial muscles). some people can pull of being more muscular while others tend to look better with lean muscle. personally i prefer lean muscle since it's less apparent (and skinnier guys in general when it comes to my male preference), but there are some men who pull of the larger muscles well without looking like complete meatheads.

i also think that girls look better with lean muscle, or even more soft muscle, or even less muscular in general....

bodies that were clearly sculpted by roid usage are not attractive, period, regardless of whether youre male or female. roids alter your physical appearance and hormones permanently, they're not only guaranteed bring about physical repercussions, but health repercussions.

They look good. Too many people think about JoJo characters when they hear "muscles". Real well built man, that doesn't eat some weird shit to speed up growth, will look like Greek statue. If that's not a perfect look, then I don't know what is.
As for females, they also need muscles. With normal workout no woman will look like Sakura Oogami. Instead, muscles keep body in right shape - we all love those curves, right?

No neutral, no vote. And not everyone knows the existence of mussels. I like to have a standard muscle size according to own body size because any bigger would be a chore to maintain it's shape. Bigger muscles should come naturally according to work demand, not with gym routine. But hey if you lift as a hobby, it's all good.

I love aesthetics. Lean body with good proportions looks so good and muscles are kinda necessary to make it possible. I do disagree with what the bodybuilding and fitness industry has turned into over the last few decades. If you think about nothing but how to increase your size then I cannot support that and I think it's unhealthy.

I've been switching my training program and now I'm like 80% bodyweight exercises and the rest is light weights. You should take an example from me not these pregnant bodybuilders you see on a daily.

I’m not really into muscle building and all that bulking shit.
I agree with many here. Achieving body-builder status is just not appealing. It’s not very aesthetic to have too much muscle and be bulky. Being lean with a good amount of lean muscle is always good though.

Now Strength training combined with calisthenics damn I love those. Pull ups, chin ups, dips, variations of push ups, pistols squats, plyometric squats, bulgarian split squats, deadlifts, upside down deadlifts, L-sit, planks, and such exercises. I’m a big fan of Thenx channel, and they’re damn challenging in their workouts. They don’t care about having you just look strong, but actually being strong with functional training and compound exercises.
Being strong >>> looking strong. I bet many body-builders can’t do a couple of pull ups to save their lives cause they’re busy with “muh isolation exercises”

Athletic muscular builds are obviously the best.

You are physically fit, but you're also healthy. Basketball players generally fit the bill, but not all of them.

Body builder kind of shit is not only ugly, but it's also useless. It's not healthy, and you aren't physically fit.

There's a reason why the fastest and strongest people are never overly muscular.

I need muscles to do shit, so they're pretty useful and have a practical application. As for the aesthetics behind them... not really! I was always more of a cardio/athletic-build type of person anyway, so I prefer slim and toned bodies without too many "gains" or whatever kids call it these days.

Doesn’t matter. This dude is crazy strong, and that’s what matters imo. The aesthetics are nothing but a plus.

He can do weighted pull ups, one arm pull ups, weighted dips, weighted muscle ups, handstand, front lever, back lever, planche, L-sit, and human flag.

If you want to get "crazy strong" why not just do strongman or powerlifting? Personally I power lift and I find that shit really fulfilling deadlifting 400+ lbs off the ground. As far as calisthenics, yeah I enjoy that shit too, pull-ups, chin-up, L-sit, handstand pushups, tuck planche etc... some of this shit though you're just asking for an injury front/back lever your shoulders are screwed and say goodbye to your knees when doing pistol squats.

I don't really like working in absolutes either tbh, I don't think there is just one way of building muscle well you should try different shit. I got into Olympic lifts and crossfit last summer and that was fun... idk I just don't see the point in limiting yourself.

You can only screw your joints, shoulders, and knees in calisthenics IF you do NOT take it slowly and steady and progress step by step (or if you’re doing it wrong). You can’t front lever in a day or month. As a standard, You advance from tuck front lever to advanced tuck front lever to straddle to full front lever. This is the standards progression. Heck full planche needs a year to achieve.

Yes deadlifts will make you stronger. I do deadlifts too. Currently at 100 Kg (3 reps). But calisthenics is about mastering your own body and having full control over it as well as gaining the strength relative to your own body. They both have their benefits and will get you stronger. They also carry into each other. Most static body weight exercises are about straight arm strength. Better straight arm strength will help you in your deadlifts to an extent. I’d also say Calisthenics is more fun. I just love getting on that bar and doing type-writer pull-ups/chin-ups for example. Also it’s relatively cheaper and saves me the effort of going to the gym since i invested in a bar, gymnastic rings, and Paralettes.

On the last few sentences, I agree with you. My friends stick to those machines and one routine amd never mix it up. On top that, every time i tell them to deadlift with me, they say they’re afraid about hurting their lower back lmao.

They can be really hot if it's not excessive. If they go overboard with the lifting, it can look quite ridiculous. So yeah I prefer the type that looks like a lot of cardio and light on the lifting.

I think that seems to be the general consensus in this thread

I think there are some exceptions though, like if you're a pro and competing for money and stuff it makes more sense to specialize only in bodybuilding or like gymnastics, or strongman, but for the casual fitness people out there, theres no harm in exploring a lot of different avenues of fitness. I actually considered competing for powerlifting, but it would have to be at a lower weight class, especially for my height (5'6) I feel like having too much muscle is just not gonna work. I'm 185 lbs now and I feel heavy.

Also the downside of powerlifing and also doing calisthenics is that you put a lot of muscle on your legs when you're doing heavy squats and deadlifts so when you're trying to do stuff like a full planche or human flag, things start to get really difficult. Any kind of calisthenics is going to be harder with a heavier body weight, but I do notice that most calisthenics guys don't go too hard on training legs. Honestly I might shift over to more body weight and lower my weights for legs, cause I'm curious what it feels like to even do that shit.

they are fun to train and i have respect for people who are big/strong.

some words from the dank bodybuilder meme mishima
Was I not already using words in my attempt to imitate the classical physical type? For me, beauty is always retreating from one’s grasp: the only thing I consider important is what existed once, or ought to have existed. By its subtle, infinitely varied operation, the steel restored the classical balance that the body had begun to lose, reinstating it in its natural form, the form that it should have had all along.

The groups of muscles that have become virtually unnecessary in modern life, though still a vital element of a man’s body, are obviously pointless from a practical point of view, and bulging muscles are as unnecessary as a classical education is to the majority of practical men. Muscles have gradually become something akin to classical Greek. To revive the dead language, the discipline of the steel was required; to change the silence of death into the eloquence of life, the aid of steel was essential.

Muscles are an alpha male trait, of course it has to be natural and nothing like those artificial muscled guys who use those messed up things to be jacked.

I think it really improves the appearance of 'any' male by at least 1/2 points, lifting can also make you lose some concentrated fat in the face, neck, belly, etc, and shape the entire body. Muscles are something that men should have, but if you're ugly don't expect muscles to save your appearance if your face is ugly af.

About females it is ugly, a woman needs to be slim only, just that.
