just like the title says, have you ever watched anime without reading it's synopsis and you only know it by it's name and have only seen a picture of it?

If you have, how does it feel or what were your thoughts while watching and after finishing it?

Just curious...

I do this all the time, almost never read the synopsis
just know the name, cover and maybe genres
I don't think it impacts the experience in any meaningful way

I do this often. If I see something interesting like a nice OP or gif, perhaps an amusing scene, I might give it a go. I find it has a surprisingly high success rate for finding decent content.

I almost never read synopsises to be honest, they spoil plot twists happening during the first 1-3 episodes and in extreme cases they can even spoil half of the anime, so most of the time just knowing the genres and seeing the cover picture is enough for me. I'll sometimes check the pv and characters too. I only read the synopsis if I'm still not sure if I want to watch it after checking the things I mentioned earlier.

I've picked up lots of anime really quickly barely reading what's it's about. Most of the time I've got a vague idea what I'm getting into, but going in blind is something that does happen.

Sometimes I read it so quickly that I forget what the show is even about, so when I get to it, I realise I don't remember a thing about the synopsis. Happens pretty often too because I'm not the type to remember things that I skim through.

I always do it i never read the genres or anything....because once i did for mahou shoujo magica madoka, the reviews said it's great and all.. even liked the promotional vids and the genres but the show was so disappointing that now i watch animes randomly without any info...

Every new season!

While I do look up some that interest me, I have found a lot of good shows like MMO Junkie by just watching just about everything then decide if I'll continue watching.

I actually prefer to get into shows this way, knowing nothing about them.

Allows me to really get a "pure" view of the show, letting it do its own thing, not biased by expectations.

And really engages that desire for discovery.

Nope, after wasting time watching subpar movies, TV shows and etc. I decided years ago to listen to the feedback of others before starting something new.

Is that a rhetorical question? Of course I did due to lack of options to look up what an anime is about.

And it didn't interfere with my enjoyment one bit.

Most of the time. I choose what anime to watch when the poster and title interests me. But after 2 episodes and I still don't get what it's all about, I'll read the synopsis then.

yes. did it with shiki, found it interesting, especially with a different way to portray its characters and present their viewpoint to the audience.

another one was zankyou no terror, which was really confusing and doesn't give any hints as to what it is during the first episode. It was a pleasant experience watching this one as well because of its setting and development.

but, most of the time, this curiosity of mine gets the better of me and goes ahead and watches all kinds of stuff. Then *poof* the anime will just go to the Dropped list.

I've done it a few times by accident when I've been searching for other animes. But so far its paid off and I've found quite a few I like this way! Plus it also means you don't go into it with any negative or positive expectations.

Who reads the synopsis smh.

"you only know it by it's name and have only seen a picture of it"

In general for seasonals I haven't even seen a picture of it or heard the name before.

Sometimes you get a good show and sometimes you get a bad show, when you get a good shows it's a really nice surprise and when you get a bad show you're not disappointed, you just don't care.

Not an anime, but a manga called "I'm inside Mari".

There I was hoping to read some fun ecchi shit for fapping, but ended up immersed in a deep psychological story.

Should've seen the tags first man.

I watched Angel Beats without knowing what exactly it was about, I just saw some pics and figured it would be a high school slice of life series like Clannad because of Jun Maeda.

I go solely by synopsis to determine whether or not I'll be interested.

I'd probably run into alot of series I end up disliking if I just went in blindly with no pre-knowledge of what to expect. I'd rather not run into stuff I'd dislike as much as possible, especially regularly (which I could see happening by having no foresight like you're saying).

I have seen like pictures of anime before though and it catches my interest to go check what it's about it and see if it interests me. I wouldn't go solely by the picture though... that's not enough.

Could be a cool looking scene or fantastic art style, but the story is shit. Nty.

Almost all the anime I've seen before signing up to this site were random picks. I just watched it on series platforms, sorted by genre and picked the one with the most appealing picture /shrug

I always do that, I barely remember the last time I've read the synopsis, no one has time for this, man.

I don't really care about it anymore, not as much as I did in the past.

Multiple times! However, I continuously fall back into the "must read the synopsis before watching to see if it catches my interest" rut/hole, so...

Maybe many, many years back but not now. Not in the past 10 years at the very least. I tend to avoid anime that I know I won't enjoy. I check the studio, the staff and cast, voice actors, the PVs if they are out, the synopsis in the official website etc. before deciding on an anime.

Most of the ongoing anime are below average or something I have already seen in the past anyways.

Darling in the Franxx is the only anime I've gone into blind and it's officially become a reminder to why I watch trailers and/or read a synopsis in the first place.

Almost always I don't read the synopsis and genre and don't watch the trailer, PV, or anything else like that.

Even on the few occasions that I did, by the time I manage to watch it from my PTW, I will most likely have forgotten anything associated to it other than its title, cover, and/or memorable gif/video

I've done it before, but rarely nowadays. Most titles I watched by selecting on title alone turned out to be things I hated(Free!, Amagi Brilliant Park, Tasogare Otome x Amnesia).

Now that I've spend some time on forums, chances are I've heard of it before I start watching it.
The cover is often enough to determine if it's something that can interest me, and I'll read the synopsis if I don't know what I signed for.

Most of the time, generally I just watch openings or clips from a show in youtube before choosing what to watch.
Or memes, for example I started Made in Abyss because elevator memes but have no idea of what it was about.

I often do this every season when we get new shows. I don't even look up the majority of them and just download anything that's listed as episode 1 and try it. It usually doesn't end well as I often drop a good chunk of them.

I did it a lot a some years ago, usually through recommendations from chat rooms. Until I was suspiciously recommended Boku no piko, but thankfully someone vehemently warned me not to watch it. (I was 13/14 and "pure" minded, I would have been scarred.) Since then I've only done it a couple of times.
