This page is part of our Apps and Extensions section. No CSS knowledge necessary, try different configurations in seconds and personalise easier than ever before! This tool takes theme CSS and applies personalisation and mods for you with a single click rather than a complicated install guide. With 86 themes currently available for install from 9 different authors (and more planned), there are options for almost everyone. Features The Theme Customiser takes CSS list designs into the spotlight with a unified, easy to understand interface and settings. Some of the key features are...
Importing & Exporting Settings You can export your settings at any moment during customisation and they're also placed at the top of each theme's CSS. When you want to change an option or update your theme, you can import those settings and continue right where you left off! ๏ Help importing your settings. List Designer Help I would love for other designers to use this with their own themes! I have a ๏ wiki with full documentation and a ๏ developer mode with a live preview. Let me know what pain points there were so that I can improve, and if you made something I would love to know so that I can add it to the default collections! If you are one of the list designers featured here and want something changed, removed, or you want to manage the themes yourself, please tell me. Notes It'd be remiss not to mention all the list designers that have their hard work on display here. Thank you to all of the designers that allowed me to host their work here. Make sure to let them know if you loved their themes! If this was helpful to you, please let me know! People rarely give feedback when everything is going right, so unless something is broken things become real quiet. |

@Valerio_Lyndon Working great! Really awesome job on this, one of the most powerful tools I've seen in the group, just amazing. Also I am thinking that https://postimages.org/ might be a good place to send new users to for direct links, Imgur is great and reliable but they confuse new users all the time not simply offering up a direct link by default (when logged out). Many users have had trouble even signing up for Imgur. Only problem is I feel like postimages will simply vanish overnight like many other image hosts. |

Nevermind. I never knew the option "Override user list styles and only use the one I want" existed. |

Heey I really like designing animelists and I think this forum is amazing and genuine to people who do so. In all honesty I think it's my favourite addition and the section to help people with anime my parents asked me about the forums. And if ur in the right section I think it's the most nice and safe place to be soo thanks for this post. I'm gonna look in it aldo I'm getting in the more advance fase off it. I still can learn so much from even the basic lists I think shisio-kun helped me develop my passion back for coding for animelists. and I'm back to coding again and found my passion back in it. so it's a regular thing I'm doing on the side mostly on sunday so u guys and girls that make it a bit easier with this posts thank you so very much! :D Because I actually started at this kind off posts and keep doing them and stay awesome! ;) (Edit: this post is really handy for beginners Only some more instruction on how to added do it would be cool because in the beginning that's pretty hard just a small piece off advise I still think it's amazing posts props for you Valerio_Lyndon ) |

New Update The browse page has had a massive improvement in the form of a search bar and improved filters! --------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------- I'm quite happy with how this turned out. I was really not sure how good it would be, but from my testing I think it works brilliantly. Also, since I last posted I have added quite a few more themes and updated the ones that were already added! Some new additions: • Agile, by me! • Magi by Hahaido. • Several themes by nymphiae. • Anilist-style by Ruri. • Grid style by 5cm. (still working on adding all the themes for this one) And the most notable change otherwise has been all the new modifications for Sailor Moon by 5cm. |

looks like a great addition, however I'm having trouble getting it to work on my fork/collection, I noticed you updated the json to version 0.3, so I made that change, but it hangs on loading filtering items, I then added another theme "Example" to see if maybe it was because I only had one theme in my collection, but still no go. I would make a github issue, but considering the default json is working I'm pretty sure it's my user error ie something I'm missing or syntax. Collection - Default going to the theme directly ofcourse works, and using search on the collection shows there is indeed a json error Theme - Search |

Collection - Default going to the theme directly ofcourse works, and using search on the collection shows there is indeed a json error Theme - Search Looks to be a simple matter of a missing dictionary key. Since your collection is a dictionary, you'll need to add another dictionary key to the first theme in the collection, or switch to an array without keys. Here's an example of both of those solutions: Added key to first "themes" dictionary entry: "example". Added comma after "url" key/value pairs. { "json_version": 0.3, "themes": { "example": { "name": "Example", "author": "Your Name Here", "type": "modern", "url": "json/theme_example.json", "tags": {"layout": ["table"], "other": ["highly customisable", "beginner-friendly"]}, "date": "2022-08-06" }, "zowie": { "name": "Zowie", "author": "ShaggyZE", "image": "https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/s/5hw3dh4v0c2k8aw/Zowie-Preview-240x135.jpg", "type": "modern", "url": "https://shaggyze.github.io/Themes/Zowie%20Theme/zowie.json", "tags": {"layout": ["table"], "other": ["highly customisable", "beginner-friendly"]}, "date": "2022-05-22" } } } Removed dictionary key "zowie" and changed "themes" dictionary {} to array []. Added comma after "url" key/value pairs. { "json_version": 0.3, "themes": [ { "name": "Example", "author": "Your Name Here", "type": "modern", "url": "json/theme_example.json", "tags": {"layout": ["table"], "other": ["highly customisable", "beginner-friendly"]}, "date": "2022-08-06" }, { "name": "Zowie", "author": "ShaggyZE", "image": "https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/s/5hw3dh4v0c2k8aw/Zowie-Preview-240x135.jpg", "type": "modern", "url": "https://shaggyze.github.io/Themes/Zowie%20Theme/zowie.json", "tags": {"layout": ["table"], "other": ["highly customisable", "beginner-friendly"]}, "date": "2022-05-22" } ] } JSON errors are output into the browser console to assist debugging (it only catches one error at a time though): The infinite loading is my fault though, I've fixed that now that I noticed it. Also I'm going to make errors easier to find in future versions. I think I'll just include the error on the main page when there is a failure serious enough to stop the page loading. EDIT: There was also an issue with the "url" key/value line not ending in a comma. |

okay, I didn't notice the missing key, so I'll change it over to the second option, when I added "Example" it was because I thought maybe it needed atleast 2 themes now cause it just kept spinning without giving an error, but looking closer now.. it looks like i was missing a comma for url endpoint when I added the two new fields for version 0.3. also didn't know it outputted errors (didn't even think to check console), so thanks for that. |

@ShaggyZE I kept investigating and it looks like there were some more code-side errors on collections with fewer than 5 items. These were caused by the recent patch, some new bugs were introduced because I didn't do enough testing. They should be fixed in the most recent commits and I also improved some of the error reporting and added it to the main page. I've never made test cases before (I don't really know how) but I think it's about time I looked into it to prevent these kinds of problems in the future. |

thanks, latest commit and json fixes seem to be working. also I noticed when selecting a tag to filter it disables other tags like it should, but deselecting it doesn't re-enable said tags and you have to deselect all or reset filters, not sure if thats intended. |

New Update Added a new developer mode available via the /dev page. All the documentation has been fully updated with all the current features as well. --------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------- Sadly I haven't added many new themes as of late as I was away for several months, and I may be too busy again in the future to keep up pace. But I always intended for this to be a sharable tool, which is why developer mode is here! Having live editing/feedback of the files to quickly catch errors and see how it's turning out is incredibly helpful. Admittedly this helps me a lot too, but I hope that it makes it more inviting for other people to use. |

Thank you so much for this! For years I've wanted at least a simple black background with gold text font list style, but I got better than I wished for. Although, I remain conflicted in wishing I could have a custom version of getNorted's design. https://myanimelist.net/animelist/getNorted Excluding the background, cover, removing transparency of the thumbnails, and changing the colors of the borders to my liking, and I think it'd be perfect to my personal taste. I'm so jealous of his design. It is incredible. Slick design. |

@waalex11 In the CSS tutorials sticky is how to rip someone else's CSS And then from there you could use the inspect element video tutorial to customize it as you please, or you can ask for help with specific things, and maybe some tutorials can edit it how you want. Also editing a premade layout with instructions can show you how to customize the important stuff and you'd use that knowledge on the GetNorted design. |

@waalex11 I'm not talking down to anyone but it's not that hard imo, especially if you simply watch a video tutorial to see how first. The most important part is watching the recorded footage, so you see how stuff is done so you can do it yourself. You do that and you should be totally fine except maybe needing help with one or two things especially if they are unusal. Many people make it harder on themselves not doing watching someone else do it first in a recording that's available. |

@waalex11 Shishio's right, it's not too hard to get into it if you're interested! Especially the singular tasks like ripping CSS where Shishio has a full guide. I'm happy to make things easier for people, but I never want to discourage you from trying things out yourself or make it seem difficult. The nice thing about CSS is it's basically impossible to break anything as it only changes the visuals. As long as you don't go off the beaten path and somehow delete your System32 folder, lol (in case it isn't clear, don't do this and it has nothing to do with CSS, it's an old joke). As to your first post, I'd love to have Norted's design in the customiser, but I usually wait for people to release designs publicly themselves. I may ask them about it later on though as it is a banger of a design, but they did state an interest in releasing it publicly in a previous thread (I forget where). Either way though, I've got a lot going on right now and I can't guarantee if it would happen. |

You're both right, it's somewhat fairly easy to an extent. Like practically anything though, it's a hassle and time consuming to figure everything out from what you want. Anyway. Thanks again. I appreciate both of your encouragement. |

Hi! I was hoping to get some help with one of the themes on your page. Whenever I try to open the ephemeral theme on my computer, my browser takes a crap and I'm unable to copy the CSS on the page (this is the only theme that does this for me for some reason). Is there a way I could get the raw code elsewhere? I can't tell if using the code with my list is going to make my browser crash as well... so I guess we'll see :') Your site is amazing and as a recently returned user to the site, it's cool to see MAL expand this much creatively. |

@uh Sorry to hear that! I'd love a more elaborate description of what occurs when you try to load the page if you have a minute; Is it just laggy, does it crash/error out, or not load a certain part of the page? Nymphiae has a thread with the original code in this club which you can always use for a manual install as well. :) |

@Valerio_Lyndon That's perfect and what I was looking for - thank you for the help! :) For me, it does load entirely when clicked but then immediately afterwards, the page becomes completely unresponsive and eventually shows a crash error for the browser. I'm using Microsoft Edge if that makes a difference! |

Cumulative Update Finally back with a bigger update, I've been busy recently! Added 49 themes by Hahaido! ๐ Some of MAL's best graphic themes. Believe it or not, the catalogue is still not complete. Check them out using the author tags. Speaking of, I redesigned the front page slightly to make way for the amount of new tags being added! And the last notable addition, Clarified has finally had the Breezy theme added. Other updates:
There is still some work I need to do on Hahaido's themes regarding installation guide accuracy and adding more customisations, but I'm just glad to finally have them here! |

@karmashizzle Oops, didn't catch that because I still had my test server running. >_> Thanks for the heads up! Interesting that your list changes the layering that much, but you have changed quite a bit... probably something to do with the animated row background from a while back I would imagine. I always wish layering issues like that were as easy as changing the z-index but it usually isn't lol. Love the animation on your tags by the way. :) |

@MrAddict Looks fine on my end. Are you using an adblocker such as uBlock Origin or any other browser extensions? I ask because the adblock filters have caused missing backgrounds in the past from faulty blocking rules. Try viewing your list without extensions or in another browser and see if the problem continues. If disabling the extension(s) fixes it, re-enable one at a time until the problem occurs again, then we can figure out how to fix the extension. If that isn't the cause then I may have to think about it or ask for more info. |

@Valerio_Lyndon hmmm, you just made me realize that I can see it working when I'm logged out, but when I'm logged in it's black...how strange. So, I did the following 1) tested clearing cookies 2) Disabled all extensions 3) changing background image and saving it which didn't change the background image if I were to logout as well (previewing didn't do anything) 4) Tried logging in on a different browser and still the same. Unfortunately, none of them were solutions |

@Valerio_Lyndon hmmm, you just made me realize that I can see it working when I'm logged out, but when I'm logged in it's black...how strange.

1) tested clearing cookies
2) Disabled all extensions
3) changing background image and saving it which didn't change the background image if I were to logout as well (previewing didn't do anything)
4) Tried logging in on a different browser and still the same.

@MrAddict Hm, curious. What's the link to the image you're using? I ask because I can only see MyAnimeList's rehosted version (which is also usually the reason for these logged out/in differences). |

@Valerio_Lyndon I'm not sure where I got the image link from since it was years ago. Even with recent images I tried to upload from the pc since it says to browse image for one. Usually I would just save as for these kinds of photos. Man, it's weird since I've had that background image for maybe 2 years now |
