I'd actually want to know more about that fortune telling cross road pretty boy. But guessing how we never get explanations about the phenomenas happening in this series, we'll never get to know about him.

Hmmm... My feelings continue to be mixed. There are some really interesting ideas, but they all boil down to "here's this weird, freaky thing that happens but will never be explained." And that works on a horror level, but the fact that they don't get explained and we often don't get any sort of real conclusion (the Pretty Boy Crossroads segment this episode was particularly guilty of this) creates a lot of unresolved anti-climax that annoys our inherent sense of how a story should go. You can make anti-climax work, but this isn't really doing it for me... I'm left with that same sense of irritation I had after watching It Follows, and I don't like it.

That said, the ideas themselves are really interesting, I just wish they were explored deeper, and the Pretty Boy Crossroads segment was going really well and had me enthralled right up until it just... ended. Even a simple "and then it was over... or was it? *DUN DUN DUUUUUUUUUN*" style ending would have helped it feel more like there was actually an end to the story and not just "wait... that's it?"

You're watching the wrong series if you expect any slight explanation behind 90% of the stuff that happens in Junji Ito's stories lol. The vast majority of his stories relies on showing the weird shit that happens rather than telling the people who are reading about it. There are a very few handful of his stories that actually explain what's going on, a lot of his stuff has open endings that leave you super confused. It's not for everyone.

EGOIST said:
that's honestly how most ito works boil down to which I honestly hate as well. Even the ones with explanations are pretty lame (Gyo, Uzumaki, The Enigma of Amigara Fault)

While I haven't read a lot of his work, I've read a few (Uzumaki included) and I got that idea. I'm still enjoying this show for what it is knowing that, but I just needed to get that one major frustration out there. I enjoy the horror aspect of his work and it's nice to see some horror adaptations starting to come out (even if the one last season completely failed to actually create any horror or be remotely good in any way *cough*king's game*cough*), and as I sort of touch on in the short second paragraph of my original post, it's not even so much that I need an explanation as that I need some sort of conclusion. That's just how stories work: they have a beginning, middle, and end, even if they're really short, and if you try to completely leave off one of those parts, it tends to cause problems. However, as we'll see through the next quote, that may not actually be what's happening here...

"Pretty Boy Crossroads" segment adapted only 1 out of 4 chapters from the original manga, tho. That's not how the story actually ends

This is really interesting... I wish they had given some indication of that here, even just a little "to be continued..." or something. Regardless though, I really hope they come back to this story and finish it, and sooner rather than later, because out of everything they've adapted here so far this was the segment that had me the most on the edge of my seat and left me the most wanting for more.

The episodes are getting darker and I'm freaking loving it.

I thought the first half deserves the whole episode or at least 2 episodes, or is it where the manga also ended? Gaaaah. I needed more. I want to know what happened to Ryuusuke and that gal. And why that ghost helped him despite of him being the reason why she killed herself. So scary, tbh, especially when that Midori's friend started being so obsessed with him and she sliced her neck. What the fuck. And somehow I think it's that pretty boy fortune teller guy's fault and Midori's friend ain't exactly in love with Ryuusuke. I maybe wrong.

And that thing with slug. What the fuck. Her tongue turned into a slug? This made me hate slug more. What the fuck.

I s2g this anime is making me uncomfortable and it slowly depicts Ito-sensei's works. Gaaah. Fucking loving this show. Can't wait for the next episode.

5/5. <3

P.S. WHAT THE FUCK? ONLY 12 EPISODES!?!? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! I WANT MOOOOOOOORE. ;-;

We're getting a two episode Tomie special, so technically there are 14 episodes, if that helps?

The Crossroads story was pretty poorly paced, not to mention they cut out a good chunk of it. Same with Slug Girl. All the episodes so far feel like they're rushing through the plot.

One of my favorite things about Ito's manga is the sense of dread and slow decent in to madness that the characters go through. Kinda hoping they stop trying to force two storied into each episode.

At least Tomie has time to breath

it seems that Ito learned how to do it right from H.P.Lovecraft , leaving something unexplained make it scary, while explaning it to the fullest would kill the horror completly

if you want the complete story for the Undying Love (which is the original title of the Crossroads segment) than you should read the manga, as the first part only like 10% of its story, that goes to show that anime adaptation is only means as an advertisement for the source material, a fact that very few are willing to accept and understand .

the Slug girl was actually completely taken from the manga, but than again it was pretty short manga with very few pages

also, Hikaru Midorikawa to voice the tall boy in black, that made it less scary, they should had hired a lesser known VA for the role , again, go with the unknown for great effect

Man, I was NOT looking forward to the intersection story. Probably my least favorite long Ito story ever; always found it too long for its concept and rather poorly paced. At least it's one I never reread ever (and I've read it for the first time years ago), so it felt somewhat fresh.

The pace problems were pretty much gone thanks to the story not being separated by chapters, so thanks to the anime for that. I didn't really get what they went for in the ending though; will they just stop there or add it later as if it was a recurrent story? I do find the ending of this particular one in the manga very meh, but it is more of a conclusion than this anticlimax. I kinda hope it's gone though, get it out of the way for better stories.

Was more satisfied seeing Slug Girl adapted; I love it for the sheer absurd and lack of explanation of it. It's one of the stories that fully embodies Junji Ito's style imo: gross and scary stuff happens to someone who did nothing to deserve it and they just have to suck it up. That said, the way they showed the slug girl in the end was a bit of lackluster for me; showing her in its full glory with her eyes open instead of a close-on on the eye would've been cooler. Still pretty great.

Good episode overall though. I'm pretty satisfied with how the anime is going, even if it doesn't bring anything new, artistically or otherwise, to these stories; it's a honest to god faithful adaptation.

Since the intersection story gets more intense later on, they will probably give us the rest on another episode probably along with adult Souchi.

Thought it was pretty good, but I really don't like the anticlimactic endings to the stories. The slug story worked well, but the Crossroads Pretty Boy was very disappointing with its ending. It ends too abruptly and while I do appreciate open and unexplained endings, this is just frustrating, to be honest. I do love the art style and the atmosphere of both of the episodes, though.

Yeah definitely agree with the way you guys feel... the ideas are AMAZING, but sadly every single one of these episodes feel like were watching the middle of something without getting a beginning or end. So every episode seems to always have an unsatisfying end.

Tbh, the slug one at least had a better ending despite how short it was. Wish there was more of a background to either the girl or where the slugs originated from.

Thought they did a pretty good job distilling Undying Love into a more focused story than the manga's version, but I have mixed feelings on Slug Girl. Although it is one of Ito's weaker stories, I wish they had left in the detail of Yuko repeatedly "removing" slug tongues from her mouth. Ah well, I guess that'd cross the throat slitting line into too far territory. In any case, it was a good directional choice to end the episode on a close-up of her grief stricken eyes.

Overall another good episode, but not quite as good as last week's. I gave it a 4.5/5 this time.

Read the manga. The episode rushed a lot of things and only adapted 1 or two chapters. It doesn't end like that in the manga.

The crossroad pretty boy felt too rushed for me. I know they have very little time so they have to do this, but the manga is 100 times better.

damn that first story was really good I'm a little disappointed the main character didn't go insane or commit suicide at the end I mean he could have at least confessed. It was a pretty interesting story but we only ever heard about those who's love will never be realized you'd figure all the suicides would keep people away from the crossroads pretty boy instead of searching for him unless there were those who's love was realized but we'll never know since they never confirmed any. I swear I thought ryuusuke was going to be murdered by those he killed or forced to wander in that foggy crossroads for all eternity but instead he was spared a twist I was not expecting.

the second story wasn't that bad just too short I mean the head of the girl became the shell for the snail and it looked as though she was still alive so her parents are pretty much making her suffer. I can understand why they wouldn't want to kill it but honestly they really should have killed it or at the very least have the parents go insane and treat the snail as their daughter.

I swear I don't understand the low score in this anime. Even when you can imagine what's gonna happen next it doesn't keep my jaw from dropping when it actually happens. Stories are amazing and chaotic and I love that, and the art totally helps with the general creepiness.

Really liked this episode, the evolution of the creepy girl from nice to crazy to dead was amazing to see. Unlike other people I also love that I'll never know what's going on with the "handsome" guy, gives me some place for imagination.

Nothing like helping a few women commit suicide so the main pairing end up together at the crossroads. :D Also nice to see some of my favorite VAs in the Bishounen story, including Yoshino Hiroyuki as Ryuusuke and Hikaru Midorikawa as the pretty boi at the crossroads. Anyone know if Yukino Satsuki (Chidori Kaname in Full Metal Panic/Gaen Izuki in Monogatari/Shimura Tae in Gintama) did Midori's voice? I can't find anything about it online.

Slug girl was a bit gross but then it turned funny somehow. Like watching an R-rated Scooby Doo.

First kill 8yr ago and only when he's back in town after few year its happening again and those dead women keep seeking for him to ask the same question even when they already dead. I was disappointed with the Crossroads story since it was cut so short. It's one of my favorite works by Junji Ito, and I was hoping to see more than one chapter get animated. I understand it's because of time constraints and I'm glad they didn't try to cram it all into one episode, but it's still kind of a bummer to not see all the crazy stuff that happens in it later on screen.

The Slug Girl segment was good even though it was so short. I kinda wish they showed her trying to go after it with scissors, and that they showed all of her instead of doing a close up on her eyes at the end, but I still enjoyed it.

First story was pretty entertaining. But again I have so many questions haha.
But when I saw slug girl was next I was definitely not looking forward to it. That story really grosses me out XD especially since I hate slugs so I'm really nervous about watching it honestly haha.
I think that's one of the most disturbing stories I've ever read. I don't find it to be scary whatsoever but it's just so disturbing. It's just like the most horrifying thing that can happen to someone. Like have your tongue turn into what you hate and grosses you out the most?! And then turning into it. That's just horrible. Like worse than death.
But I'm gonna watch it now. Wish me luck.
Yeah I don't like this story. But I also think they did a great job because it's supposed to be a disturbing and gross story and it definitely is. But again I can't stand slugs so this is hard for me to watch haha.
I definitely never want to watch it again. It was actually hard for me to watch it.

I think this episode was much better than the last in terms of adaptation and atmosphere. I enjoyed the consequences the characters faced for messing with something they don't quite understand.

Slug Girl was really disappointing, however. It was far too short to be able to fully creep the viewer out, other than the power of suggestion and slug (if you don't like slugs that is). The original one-shot was a lot better.

One thing that is bugging me, however, is the art style. I understand that Junji Ito's works of art is something that no one will be able to replicate, however I just think the shading of the creatures and characters in this show look... Off. It's hard to explain, it just feels off.
