| May we just take a moment and talk about how Despacito has reached over 4 billion views on YouTube? (Ik it happened few days ago but still) I get that it's a good song and all, and it's also in my favorites, but 4,000,000,000 views?!? Let's not forget the previous song that had the most views on the site was also "not" an American song, (Gangnam Style), so why are Korean & Spanish songs taking over, even though majority of listeners don't understand these languages? Is it just a trend or is their cultural music generally better than American pop, cause I'm not gonna lie, I do like a lot of Korean bands. |

And in these countries they listen to a lot of music specially the genre of reggeaton and a lot of this songs have 500M+ views. I believe this is one of the reasons. And for Gangnam style maybe because the music and the video was pretty interesting/weird to non Koreans. |

| It was everywhere this spring/summer. Like others said, it's a trend, it was thrown in every party and it even became a meme. The video getting 4 billion views is not even surprising considering how strong its presence in media has been for months. |
