do you want to see their D? it would be awkward af to fight while naked, of course, some anime did that, and I don't know how to describe my feeling |

He actually did fight buttnaked often in Dragon Ball. One of the running joke was that he had no pudor, wich is totally lost in the later parts of the serie |

It gets people excited about the character, and makes their transformation of power to another level more tangible. It's a signal to show people what transformation level they are at, especially if there is more than one. In the bigger picture, it's theatrics, and it actually works pretty well from an entertainment standpoint if you ask me. |

Most of the time, clothing is used as a way to indicate a bigger power level. |

> Why do transformations include clothing??? 1) Because how you're going to recognize somebody without their clothing? And how are you going to know the new transformed being is Awesome unless he/she/it wears sufficiently Awesome clothes? 2) Because clothing is part of a powerset that is granted by transformation. They stop bullets, are only slightly charred by nuclear blasts, and can cut demons and shoot lightning. This one is especially likely for magical girls. 3) Because transformation is meant as a disguise. Any disguise system that doesn't involve new clothes in disguise, and returning to old clothes afterwards is pretty damn flawed. 4) Because having clothes disappear and reappear during the transformation sequence is erotic, but having to spend a lot of time naked is mostly for porn. |

Cardcaptor Sakura's transformation doesn't involve clothing. Her rich and eccentric best friend just makes her dress up in over-the-top outfits to invoke the trope, much to Sakura's chagrin. Bobby2Hands said: So we can get a chance to see some magical girl butts during the transformation scene wardrobe changes. Not that many mahou shoujo play up the sex appeal that much tbh. I'd assume Cutey Honey does, but other than that what I've seen has been more about evoking a certain feeling or upping the cool factor than showing off curves, like so. Of the ones I've seen, Magic Knight Rayearth probably plays it up the most, though you only see them once or twice in the show proper and they're quite short (season one's and season two's respectively). They're in the OPs though, and both of Magic Knight Rayearth's OPs are pretty great so I saw them quite a bit. |

Nanoha's transformation sequences can be sexy, if you're into little girls. (they diversified in the later seasons) And of course hentai transformation sequences go all-out on the sexy aspect. |

I've heard this before, but I think describing the transformation sequences in Sailor Moon as "sexy" is a bit exaggerated. With Sailor Moon herself the most notable thing to me is how she got progressively more dramatic, graceful, and then subtly dramatic with her transformations. Usagi has virtually zero sex appeal save for when she's in her awakened state as Queen Serenity, and there's no traditional transformation sequence for that. Usagi aside, from what I remember most of the early transformations were relatively simple, and most of the later transformations were going more for the cool factor I mentioned before. Makoto's first transformation is the only one that I think plays up the sex appeal to a notable amount, considering the zoom in on her butt and boobs as she spins toward the end. Given the number of mahou shoujo and transformations in Sailor Moon I view it as more of an outlier, though. |

No, zooming on her butt and breasts isn't necessary - just seeing a girl dancing naked like that is enough. I don't think that being naked equivalates to being sexy at all. Take Holo's introduction in Spice & Wolf. She's nude, but she isn't sexualized at all. Lawrence reacts as one might expect, but the entire scene is framed in a way that emphasizes her freedom from the human world, her more animal traits. I would find it extremely unusual for someone to watch that scene thinking how her being naked is sexy... because it just isn't. The whole scene seems geared toward the opposite, actually-- to de-sexualizing her nakedness. With such a fundamental disagreement as to what qualifies as being sexualized (which was what I was initially responding to, that most mahou shoujo transformation sequences aren't notably sexualized), I doubt there's anywhere meaningful we can go with this. |
