You clearly know nothing about how streaming even works, let alone how bitrate starved those streams are compared to actual releases on torrent sites.

Your ignorance is strong m8, better you don't say anything. streaming already re-encodes an already re-encoded fansub, so quality will degrade especially that streaming video encoding settings have lower bitrate (for lower tolerable quality but lower file size) and fast settings that is meant for playback even on slow computers/devices

so a lot download fansubs (not HorribleSubs since they are just webrips) because the video encoding settings are much geared towards high quality (that means higher bitrate or bigger file size) and they are only re-encoded from the original source broadcast

streaming videos = re-encoded twice (original source and fansubs)
fansub videos = re-encoded only once from original source

Hope that clears your head and next time talk b4 you know. http://subarashii.me/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/Whystreamingisbad.png

What I can't understand is why would they host it in eu, and not in Russia for example or china ?

None of that is true. Although that may be how some anime services are doing it in practice, it isn't how streaming actually works. Most streaming is just sending the video file to you sequentially rather than in random order and displays it immediately, and most torrent clients can do that for you too if you want to start watching something before it's fully downloaded.

Personally I'm not terribly concerned about quality as long as the artifacts aren't too large or involve unintended motion. I'm more concerned about not being able to access older (and often far far better) anime. And that lack of access is the main reason why torrents are better than streaming. Crunchyroll could go out of business tomorrow and you're SOL on accessing their library.

its totally true, google about video encoding/transcoding, illegal streaming sites video sources are from fansubs, so this illegal streaming sites already re-encodes an already re-encoded video from this fansubs

plus video re-encoded for streaming have lower to half the bitrate of fansub releases, like a 720p of fansub release have 400mb file size while the illegal streaming site have 720p at only 200mb file size of the same episode so no wonder quality is lower on illegal streaming sites

Streaming is the way to go

1080p or go home.

TBH when I was going on trips or holiday I always stocked up my laptop with a few seasons I planned to binge through on my downtime. Torrenting was a lot better than downloading those streamed versions and with my desktop being as good as it was I just batch recoded the 1080p's to a more compact format.

TLDR, I'd rather convert the 1080p's myself than settle for someone else's ass poor stream that most of the time isn't even the right aspect ratio.

Do you not realize how many shows are on sites like KA? I'm surprised that you think you know these streaming sites have a small selection of shows when you don't use them.

I like how you think you're above others just because you watch anime in a different way. Why does it matter so much to you Torrent guys? We're all watching the same show in the end. What quality a person decides to watch it in shouldn't matter, and you definitely shouldn't think you're better than them because you Torrent.

He's not talking about the quality of the videos (which is just a bonus) but the availability of older animes/mangas/movies from torrent sites.

The previous commenter said that streaming sites host a good amount of animes to watch. He should have mentioned seasonal animes because otherwise, he is very wrong. There is a plethora of older and unlicensed animes/mangas out there which are very difficult to search in those streaming sites (except maybe KA). However there is a 99% probability that you could find those said animes/mangas in these torrent sites like Nyaa and BakaBT.

i see the same divide with drm and digital game piracy ,while some what more serious depending on your views the preservation of older stuff is something important to consider

This is really a crippling blow the distribution of anime related media.

In terms of scope, it was the pirate bay of anime. Nyaa was THAT big. There were 10s of, if not hundreds of millions of torrents on there, encompassing everything: anime, manga, LNs, VNs, eroge, live-action dramas, music, pictures, etc.

Only difference is, TPB was always prepared for a potential shutdown, and had shitloads of backup mirrors. Nyaa had no backups, and the owner pulled the site down without warning simply from being scared of a law that hasn't passed yet. Perhaps they will just move the hosting out of Europe and over to a more lenient country, but I haven't been hearing good things from with little info I was able to salvage across multiple forums.

One sliver of good news, is that Nyaa was actually owned and run by commie. So hand-in-hand, commie shit tier trolling meme seventh circle of hell is gone too for the foreseeable future. Their site is down as well.

Hi10anime however has a serious problem with doing 1080p BDs with lots of action properly, cause it appears extremely laggy and/or broken so not the best site for 1080 ones

Only problem with shanaproject, which I also use, is that they get their trackers from tokyotosho...who in turn get theirs mostly from nyaa...sooo its a vicious circle. My RSS was through shana and I was wondering why I had no updates the last 2 days.

Take anything Herkz says with a grain of salt. Don't forget that walking piece of meme-trash human garbage is also the figurehead of commiesubs. This is the same man-child that picked a fight with horriblesubs because their torrents are more popular than his.
