Great article, really enjoyed reading it. I liked all the different subjects it tackled and the comparisons were spot on.
The only thing is that if you ask me, it could have been even longer and more encompassing so it could be even better.

Perhaps you could have covered the way Steins;Gate builds its world through mostly pseudoscience and cinematography, despite the setting being one of the most down to earth of any popular anime. You could’ve explained how Full Metal Panic builds its world around the military and high-school themes. You could’ve compared how Clannad builds up the mor supernatural elements of the setting whereas Angel Beats is lazy with the afterlife setting to just make it be high-school. On a Shonen level, one could include Power Systems as a large factor of worldbuilding. The elaborate nature of Alchemy and Nen are a major reason why Fullmetal Alchemist and Hunter x Hunter receive such praise, while lesser Shonens aren’t looked upon as well for worldbuilding stuff. Or even worldbuilding episodically, a la Cowboy Bebop or Mushishi, where each episode has a unique vibe but they are cohesive with each other to keep the setting interesting. There’s even times when totally unique fantasy worlds like Rokka no Yuusha get lost in a plot shuffle for later expansion, and a series like Made in Abyss which actively uses up a lot of time worldbuilding but also hinging on the great mystery.

I don't think I showed you the awards I did at the start of the year for every anime I saw in 2017 because you fell out of the seasonal loop (I'll send them if you want to see all my awards I gave). One of the categories was Best Waifu, sniped by Rias Gremory from Highschool DxD. I still have quite a few shows to see before the year's end, but right now Favorite Waifu from a show I saw in 2018 is between Chiho and Tessa. New season too so it's current again.
