Often I find myself very unmotivated to watch most things even when I'm telling myself every day to watch at least episode one. I always end up procrastinating until I no longer have the motivation to watch it. Even when I do watch it I always get too embarrassed and nervous to watch the first episode and that's too much for me. Is this some type of anime-anxiety? lol

It's like the same for seasonal anime. I have 80+ in my dropped list because I don't "feel" like watching something anymore. Even if I enjoyed it. I really want to fix this.

I'm just wondering if anyone else has similar experiences to this and how they deal with it. Thanks.

Well, you could always just need to find the right stuff? Still, you shouldn't force yourself to watch an episode if you don't really feel like it. Watch something if you wanna watch it - there's nothing wrong with that. There's no reason for you to have to force yourself to watch an episode per day if you aren't feeling it at the moment either, you know.

It's not like I'm forcing myself to watch things I don't want to watch. I just get nervous when trying to start it and end up doing other things instead.
I always drop things I don't like. There's a difference in not liking something, and not being motivated to watch something I like.

Tbh, i'm not sure if i can relate to that. I only feel unmotivated when I'm burnt out from watching anime after which i take a break. Focus on other things, be it study, gaming, having some fun with friends, you know that kind of stuff, then thought of wanting to watch will come by itself.

You know, the long awaited time of starting it and committing yourself to something that you don't know if you'll enjoy or not. That always gets me.

I have very little motivation for other things too lol, I always retract myself to my video games when I don't feel like doing anything else.

Point still stands, take a break from it so your motivation to watch more is stronger than your anxiety. Last time I felt "embarrassed or nervous" was either when I haven't watched that much/felt self-conscious about watching certain genres or when I simply didn't feel at all like watching said show during that time.

It does happen but only when I have too much free time. I can't decide what to do/watch and I end up doing/watching nothing. The more busy I am, the more effectively I manage my free time.

Well having fun and playing games (there's quite a few good ones recently i heard) doesn't need that big of a motivation . Studying, on the other hand, lol that's a tough one . Just find something refreshing for you. Don't look at it as commitment or something; you're just having fun.

Regardless if I'm really busy or not, this always happens. Even if I'm busy I still won't feel like doing something and just to decide to wait for the next episode of One Piece and that's my week of anime.

Thanks I often disregard the idea that I might be stressed. Maybe I am, because I hardly ever feel like I'm having fun. Last Friday at 3 am I gained enough motivation to watch Kimi no Na Wa and I felt amazing. Felt like watching a ton of other things then but never got around to it. I need to go outside.

I've been this way lately, minus the embarassed/nervous part. Just take a break and do other things. Also don't worry about dropping anime. You can always just pick them back up if you're ever in the mood to watch them.

Maybe I should. I've made it my goal to keep up with every single anime season since summer '13 and it has been fun but a little of a chore recently that I only stick with one or two shows each season now.

I suggest binge watching. If you watch it all in one go, starting each episode immediately after you finish the prior, there won't be a chance for this feeling of reluctancy to set in and you should be able to get through an entire season without losing interest.

Well, in those cases you could just start from the beginning again, or if your memory is good read episode summaries up to where you left off. Just a suggestion.

Finish off Fairy Tail 2014. Judging by your tags, you really enjoyed the first series. And by your episode count your in a filler arc. Skip it if it doesn't interest you.

It's a really upbeat series with nothing that's really negative. Sounds like something you could enjoy at the moment.

I can understand the feeling of not wanting to start watching a show that you feel you might not enjoy. I've put off shows for YEARS because of this. Then when I finally plucked up the courage to watch the first episode I sometimes end up LOVING it and thinking why the hell did it take me so long to watch (Acchi Kocchi, for example) even though I knew about the show since 2013.

What I recommend is allow yourself to put any anime on hold even after the first episode. You don't need to commit to finishing a series if you're not in the mood.

I can totally relate. I feel like I lost my ability to binge watch anime, I used to watch so much. It started after the winter break, and then idk what happened after that. I completed the shows a lot slower than normally. I'm not enjoying anime like I used to so i took a break, and almost nothing changed. I'm not interested in the shows I'm watching even though they're ones that have good ratings. i'm trying to avoid dropping them because I'm not sure if it's my mood or if I just don't like it. Maybe it's the genre, but I really hope I find my motivation soon

Sorry for the long paragraph XD

Edit: nvm it's actually not that long lol

I do the same thing. I have bipolar. You should try to see a psychiatrist. It isn't normal but you aren't alone. :( Not wanting to do something you normally enjoy doing is a sign of depression.

I am not bored of anime at all. I love anime. I tend to just watch other things all the time. I am lonely all the time and sad.

This is just a small tip, but for some time instead of watching anime try playing videogames with much input from the player (I like Jump&Run & Strategy for example). Games that are anime oriented can help too. For me this gives motivation because of constant input & small successes and once I'm tired out I'm in the mood to sit down and watch something again.

Sport or going out works the same way, but finding the motivation to do that can of course be harder :D

And this may sound weird, but for your off anime time just go on some site and look at beautiful artwork of fans & professionals, for me this gets me my anime fix.

I'm pretty much something like that nowadays, but instead I read a lot of Mangas to sooth my feelings and after that something would ignite at me, like a spark. That triggers me to watch an anime :) AND i think there's no anime-anxiety tho, maybe you're just stressed and or thinking too much bout things thats why you're not that focused to do your hobbies. Get a rest and that's it :)

i can understand! over the years i learnt a way to still watch anime without feeling like this, open the episode and focus on each frame, try to find the thing you like the most about each scene, that may be the dialogue, a detail in the art, the animations etc.. you'll see that it's so much easier to watch an episode if you ignore the parts that are dumb or boring and shift your attention to what you actually like

@Darek - Its an anime fan thing.

For some strange reason, this thread is very common on here and seemingly more common in the anime fandom than any other fandom I have been apart of. Typically, humans are able to grasp when they're bored with a medium or hobby, but some anime fans I assume don't want to admit it.

Its fine to grow bored with a hobby. Actually, many anime fans stop watching alltogether at some point. I probably never will, but its amazing how we have to tell people that they are bored so they realize they are bored.

I know that those threads are common and yeah people often get bore of some medium, a lot of people after a certain point stop watching anime similarly to how I stopped watching live action TV and only watch a movie once or twice a year.

But it is not that all people are really bored with anime medium as a whole, some people tend to get bored of anime and quit because they suck at finding anime they like or simply happen to stumble to many times at things they dislike and fail to notice the pattern and don't realize they are looking in the wrong place and probably should try other genres/decades, some people just burnout from watching too much as well.

Some people just need a break.

Some people just need to stop forcing themselves to watch shit they don't like.

Some maybe just should stop watching every anime and become more picky.

Some people should embrace the greatness that is moe and cure all their problems with cute girls.

Some people are just not made for anime as a medium, just like some people don't like live action, video games, books or comics and so on.

Tho it is indeed weird that people need to ask and just don't notice themselves their own tastes and "problems"...

@Darek - This is yet another issue with this fanbase and why I am starting to grow more distant with it. Some anime fans just don't get it and treat anime as some religion that they must never admit they are bored or slowly losing interest in or even watching too much. Instead, they ask fellow anime fans instead of actually admitting the obvious.

Its fine. If you aren't motivated to watch anime you like (as OP said), you are likely very bored. Heck, you may be losing interest in the medium. Take a break like a normal human being and accept people lose interest in hobbies. It sounds rude, but its just how it is. Me? I don't see myself ever losing interest, but I am not everybody else.

You're not the only one. I feel that way all the time. I want to catch up on Pokemon but watching it on a marathon is actually impossible for the newer Pokemon seasons (Black&White onward), told myself to watch 3 episodes a day, but ended up not doing it. I don't think there's really a fix for that, anime as a whole is looking less appealing these days.
