Intense....

Erin is prepared to suicide if things go bad. Kirik is seeing more and more his dead sister in Erin... Will he be going through a change of heart at one point?

I found it interesting that Erin's childhood friend thought she was dead long time ago...

Erin was at least successful at tricking Damiya that her techniques cannot be taught, despite her being cornered by him...(hostages)

Great episode with more and more buildup...

Next episode: Sezan getting changed? Damiya's doing obviously but what role will Kirik play?
bla bla bla
The endless debate between fans and haters. At one point, after spending a lot of time on MAL, you just realize it's totally pointless.

I love how Damiya thought he was warning Erin when he said that the ability to control ouju would be lost if a touda rider was king, and all he did was give Erin hope and possibly a plan.

Waaa... it surprised me that Erin carries a knife with her all the time now. She did say earlier that she'd ready to sacrifice herself it it meant preventing a disaster, but it still surprised me.
And Ering shows her smarts again with making Damiya believe that she has supernatural powers to control the beasts. That was real smart. Show him, Erin!!!
And Damiya tries threatening her, but it worked in the opposite direction.
*jumping and cheering* GO ERIN!!!

Her friend knew nothing of what happened. I'm guessing she was told later by the town elder and that asshole that Erin died trying to save her mother. Obviously as a way to keep word from spreading of what really happened. I'm sure they will meet really soon.

The story is indeed heating up. Cant wait to find out what Erin will do.

Oh one other thing to note. It looks like Damiya is appointing to bad guys as Sezon (sp?) and removing past members. What a jackass. I hope he gets eaten in the end.

Yeah, I ws wondering about that preview. I guess only Damiya would do something like that. And I *really* want to know what he needs it for.
I also hope he'll get eaten, but then I doubt he will. He's always so *carefull*.

Too bad Erin blew the whistle. Well, she'd probably be executed if she didn't. I agree with noteDhero, it's not really impressive coming from Erin... It's just what she'd usually think of. I do wonder why the Beastlord obeyed Erin, but not the caretaker... It's not like she had a bond with him or anything. I guess that Erin will meet her old friend when she's on the Beastlord and that it won't be a happy return.

Still do not like Damiya. Drop dead already. Why would he change the Sezan? Probably to not have a familiar someone around Erin to protect her, like Ial.

The beast lord recognized the caretaker as someone who blows the whistle. We already know that they remember seeing who does that to them, and making an association in the future. I don't think that it can work again with Erin, but she was so far away that it might not matter.

Actually it's a different reason that you will hear about in ep 46
If you want to know here it is (spoiler?):

I was wondering why Erin could approach the beast-lord too. noteDhero's explanation makes sense, but it'll be interesting to see how episode 46 explains it. My only guess is that Erin's eye contact helped calm it down and she was slow in invading its personal space. I was sort of hoping Erin would go crazy and stab Damiya near the end of the episode, but that'd be too anti-climactic; plus, it would be uncharacteristic of her. Now that I think about it, she's usually been on the defensive when facing aggression in the series.

I'm glad Damiya didn't try any more moves on her while they were alone. It looks like he's getting cocky by bringing in new men (who are probably the masked guys from before posing as Saigamul). The Sezans will suspect something, but that's probably why they're going to get attacked (judging by the preview). Erin already has the smarts to outwit Damiya-- only reason he's been such a thorn is because of his position. I wish she would drop the suicidal thoughts.

It was cool to see Saju. I'm surprised she already has a kid. Here's hoping that she and Erin (and Chok) get to see each other again.

This series has been nothing but a series of bad things for this country, but Erin deposing the child-queen in favor of Shunan is the first good news on the horizon since the start.

Interesting to see that Erin's old friend in Aku has been a mother for 3-5 years at age 18. Realistic pre-modern marital/procreation culture.

Damiya's a moron. Figures he would end up saying the wrong thing, bwahaha. I hope Erin is successful in whatever she manages to do in the end! Obviously she would much rather the Beast-Lord-taming techniques to just be forgotten. You'd think she'd want the Touda-taming techniques to be forgotten, too. I wonder if she thinks that Touda will become redundant if the Duke is King? ... I wonder what she's thinking period, I guess.

Can't wait to see how this all unravels! I hope it doesn't end up with Erin killing herself, of course. It kind of surprised me that she's prepared to commit suicide, if everything goes awry. (Er, more awry than it already has.)

Erin shows a lot of political wisdom, here.

I wonder if Kirik will end up poisoning Damiyah. Or Erin could let one of the beasts eat him.

Damiyah is such a snake. He's going to stage a coup eventually.
Your mean should be an even bell curve only if you watch every show that comes out. Having a high-slung mean doesn't mean you're rating improperly. It can also mean you're selecting shows well to watch mostly things you enjoy.

Damiya thought Erin would just bow to him like that haha. Fortunately the girl's much smarter than he is and completely played him.

I actually would be really happy if Erin decides to side with the Grand Duke . . . Honestly, between an ignorant Queen and a rotten Uncle, the royal family is nothing but a waste of space.

All that build-up is starting to pay off. Erin tried her best to wriggle from underneath the Uncle, but he just has too much power compared to Erin who has none.

I absolutely love how it's Damiya whom ends up giving her the idea of claiming that she has magical powers due to being an Akun me chai. Then basically creating a situation where she proves something that isn't true by using the knowledge that she possesses. If anything, she proves just how smart she is in this situation. And with Damiya using something that is infact, an encouraging statement for her if he knew her true nature, it's funny how it ends up emboldening her further.

I'm still worried, but Erin surprised me once again, she's not giving up her ways at all! She's even ready to kill herself if it's necessary, and this isn't an easy resolve to have, she also is doing what she can so that they don't take advantage of her, standing her ground against Damiya. She only complied because it was the only way she could stay with Lilan and her family, and still protect them. I also loved that scene with Kiriku at the start, his "People are powerless. It's not a sin to live abiding by your fate." quote was quite poignant. Erin also confided to him her doubts about the way she raised Lilan, she was still feeling really lost.

At least now she's finally seeing the light, and the funny thing is that Damiya was the one that unknowingly gave her this prospect. If the Grand Duke were to become king, it would make the Beast-Lords free, but I pity the Touda that would continue to be enslaved, and I guess this kind of Touda domination could also bring serious problems in the long term, but it won't be a worry for her generation if Shunan were to be the king though. And at least the tragedy behind the country wouldn't happen again, so I like her view on the matter. But Damiya is the worst, I loved how Erin called him rotten, because that's what he is, holding the people she care about as hostages, preventing her from speaking with Seimiya, trying to force her to comply in the worst possible way.

But she was so smart to use the preconceptions they have against her folk as a weapon though! She's been ostracized a lot because of her origins, and now for the first time they helped her. I loved how she fooled Damiya, at least for now. This "Akun Me Chai" seems like a pejorative term, and if she knows it it's because she heard it when she was a kid, the poor girl. It was awful to see that the hateful Wadan is still doing fine, but nice that her childhood friends married each other, and have a kid, I guess. Also, Ial is coming back into the picture in the next episode, and I can't wait!

If the duke is good for one thing, it's the idea he accidentally gave to Erin

Seems like Erin got no choice.. for now
Can't wait for the new Queen's death, that probably won't happen :P
Instead the death of her country maybe

I like Damiya, he plays his antagonistic role well for me to be impressed. I liked how he threatened Erin and the academy. But in that situation, all Erin could think was Lilan.

Omg is Erin gonna pull the strings to make the Grand Duke become king so that she'd be executed and the beast lords will be able to live in peace? What's this plan she's got?

Also the harp thing she did was pretty cool, how'd she do it? I wanna knowwwwww

Damiya standing in front of Erin, trying to block the light, yet failing to fully engulf her in shadows.

It's subtle, but there's a balance of power between characters shown throughout the show. This is obvious with things like the Queen sitting above others, or that comment in episode 39 of how no one should look at the Queen from above the cliff. It can be seen here to, where Damiya tries to constantly assert dominance over Erin physically (locking her in his room, approaching her aggressively to intimidate) and emotionally (threatening the safety of the Kazalm staff/students, as well as Yuuyan). Damiya has controlled and dominated others in the past, as demonstrated by his relative position to the former and present Queens.

The discussion first starts with both of them sitting on the same chair, with Damiya comfortably reclining on the left side while Erin sat timidly and straight up on the right side. They entered the discussion on somewhat equal terms, but over time, Damiya's façade faded as his true intentions came forth. However, not matter how much he tried to dominate Erin in terms of visual space on screen, Erin never backed down, culminating in her realization towards the end regarding the method of sealing away beast-lord control. Throughout all this, while Damiya, at times, stood over Erin in some manner, she constantly retained control of herself and her position, remaining standing and in range of light throughout the scene.

I'm probably digging too deep, but there's still a lot of interesting framing throughout the episode nonetheless.

I like the way the show is wrapping up but centering the politicking when it is somewhat thin is straining the story a bit. Its odd that the queendom managed to become so divorced from its origins and yet the arrangement held for 300 years. Nonsensical status-quo situations can coast for a surprisingly long time but something like a two-nation power-sharing arrangement where one has a massive army of invincible murder lizards and the other has literally no military and nobody on the lizard side thought "what if we just absorbed the useless half of this equation?" strains credibility. The show did say that Harumiya was ignorant because her parents died when she was young but still, 300 years of rule, clear political strife as demonstrated by her parents assassination, and somehow the imbalance was constrained to just cracks until the current generation? Really?
