THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
I think the show is getting better now, at least it's fleshing out some storytelling about certain characters like Ririka. Felt bad for her past though especially since her happy days are far gone now. If only the pacing started this slow from the beginning

Being an orphan isn't easy for her although she still had her "Bro" at the time.

Bit of a creepy episode.

Honestly big-boobs does more for this story than anything else. No idea where this shit is going the boring exposition is hard to follow and the utter exclusion of the main characters are both a pro and a con because for one there are unbelievable annoying when there are present and the other supporting characters are completely uninteresting. The dialogue seems weird and out of place even when the message seems simple enough. The premise seems hesitant, I mean this is basically a supernatural mystery of some sort, right? But with the exception of some happenings it seems more implied than actually shown, which is fine, some stories simply express their features at later times, however the mystery aspect is, as in most anime, severely lacking.

I keep hearing names and words that I'm sure represent something that exists within the context of the story (as "watch out for shadows" as said from a character in Babylon 5 didn't mean the phenomenon that occurs with the obstruction of light.) Perhaps I wasn't paying enough attention but if you're going to mention something, especially something of later importance, be it words, characters, names, stories or legends, there is a way to convey that so both the audience remembers it (at least when brought up again) and gives them some incentive to dedicate more time into something. This has turned that into a chore by wasting so much time to show the audience that there is either there is something off with one or more of the characters or there is a greater, perhaps sinister power at work behind the scenes.

The amount of interest in this series closely reflects the current picture count and their subjects on Gelbooru. That's not to say a series is only as good as the hentai it has but there isn't really much grabbing my attention here.

Surprisingly a lot better than the last two episodes!! I really did have high hopes for this anime, so I'm not going to drop it. Hopefully it gets better with the coming episodes, because based on what we've gotten so far, the episodes do seem to at least get a bit better each time. This episode was definitely an improvement. I really do like the opening, too.

I liked the backstory about Aria, and the report at the end about the mass suicide was interesting, but other than that I didn't really care for the other things that occurred within this episode.
People on MAL refuse to actually enjoy watching anime.

Your taste in anime isn't a personality trait.

I fail to understand what learning about this girl's brother issues added to the story. It didn't make her interesting. It has no ties to the main plot. It has nothing to do with the occult. It wasn't entertaining. You could have cut it out and nothing would have changed.

On a side note, I just finished rewatching the first Danganronpa anime. Funny how that botched adaptation had more characterization and intrigue in its opening episode than Occultic had in three.

LOL I felt like I was watching a show about a incest-necrophilia relationship of a mentally ill little girl. The tranny guy looked a little suspicious when the boob girl left his club. Now I'm interested in the incident about that mass murder. That was better than the first two episodes.

This show keeps getting better. There were a lot of new revelations to think on here. It's getting more and more ideas about how the character stories are intersecting. Ryotas had a very suspicious phone call this episode. Looks like she isn't as innocent and dumb as I assumed.

Decent episode, Though I don't think there was any progression in the mystery, Either that or I missed it.

There's a lot of stuff that's going on right now.
I find the otaku detective to be a really fun guy, Watching him is fun.

Ryotas and the cafe owner are affiliated to something.

Interesting backstory about Aria, I actually didn't realize it was her until the very end when they mentioned the name change.
That reality check and corpse change though.

That demon appearing in MC's dream was kinda scary. xD
Wonder where we head from here.

ps.Yuuta remind me of takumi from c;h the part where otaku running around panic and paranoid because he witness a murder that he didn't commit ,not to mention the "Don't look at me" or the incident at the end of episode give me a vibe of c;h

Was supposed to make you sick looking at her, but well, different cultures different standards. She will not be the top winner in that nomination, that is for sure.

The detective guy was awesome in this episode.

Gamon going crazy.

That big brother corpse, wow that was fucked up.

Other than that, i reserve judgement for everything else in this episode since it was basically mysterious phone calls, spooky unexplained shit and no revelations.

the hell, they already telling that brocon story on previous episode right?
why we have to listen this again with different POV but pretty much have same story?

And the mystery/murder keep poping up without any analysis or explanation. that hishigawa murder, chican disappearance and now 51 murder that the logical explanation I can find is the alien did that.

I enjoyed pretty much this entire episode, except the dream sequence with the MC. Which... well just wandering around Japan(I assume?) just throwing a tooth-key into random keyholes seems quite inefficient.

These past two episodes have been quite amazing. That entire Ria scene was done phenomenally and I was quite confused (Thanks lack of sleep this past week) on what was happening with the cops/aunt(?) at the mansion, until I heard that just sickening thud of the body hitting the floor. And then my brain started to put together the pictures.

One thing that concerns me was in the ending song the lyrics for the last line is 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,9....Is this any foreshadowing about ryotas or they just skipped 8 to fit the rhythm

The backstory for the girl that curses people was fucked up in more ways than one though and that ending was just insane lol....Also the bits with the detective and the dark haired girl was 10/10

I know what the purpose is. My question was why did this episode spend about 1/4 of the runtime showing me that? It's not connected to anything going on at present and it didn't make the girl interesting.

Also, have you not seen any of the non-Steins;Gate semicolon anime? Chaos;Head? Robotics;Notes? Plastic Memories (not really semicolon, but it was written by the same dude)? Any of the Steins;Gate sequels? The shit of this franchise vastly outweighs the good.

Interesting episode.

Argh that creepy smile at the start. Still wondering what happened to Chi.
Shun is a pretty good detective. Slowly putting things together.

That Ria/Arai flashback was really creepy with the reveal that her brother has been dead for over a year & she's been living with his corpse.

Yuuta is getting freaked out. That Demon looked scary.

WOW 51, maybe 100 bodies found in the lake. This is going to be chaos.

Chaos;Head was probably the first animation I've watched deliberately by myself on the internet. It was not judged since... well. Robotics;Notes felt good as it emerged, but by the ending it somehow lost original space-shine and began to be a mere insane terroristic mechs, which still was not all that good. I still treasure it as a piece of Steins;Gate universe and a good science fiction man they could have done such a better work destroying the moon? Come on this is big pull it with THE IMPACT!!!... Plastic Memories was a decent teenager drama that did not really have anything outstanding but neither lacked in something. This... this is about how popular culture destroys originaly amazing things. Or so it seems so far.

We got another mindfuck this episode but it slowly turns into clusterfuck instead.

Storytelling is really messed up here and the director is doing his job very very poorly (still wondering myself how he could do something like KimiUso when this is such a failure... and no, I don't think that randomly putting in every occultic theme to let viewers talk about how this show is magnificiently deep, make it anything close to good. Or do people actually enjoy watching bad and incoherent trainwreck shows? Really, this will be even worse than Mayoiga in the end, mind my words.

Quite a lot of talking again and most story lines progressed a bit but it's still very confusing. The storyline which I care about the least is the reporter one, I don't know where that one is going.

I don't think the show has improved a lot so far but there was a Lupin III reference in this episode has that going for it.

I agree, if I have to judge, this was the best episode so far, that's true (the truth is it wasn't even hard to be better but well..).
But at this moment I really don't know what would need to happen to make this show shine in the end.

Regardless of whether you think those shows had worth or not, the point is Steins;Gate is the only one you remember and what everyone else remembers. Why? Because those other anime were so lacking and forgettable that no one acknowledges their existence. And even then, S;G hasn't had a good run of it since it exploded in popularity. First there was that godawful movie that was basically cheap fanfiction combined with sequelitis and now there's all these spinoffs that remind me of when Silent Hill lost all its dignity.

Oh, and IMPACT is lost on me. I don't care and have never cared for the mecha genre.

I am in control, because I know things that you do not know."

I think the opening line of the Imitation Game should play before every Occultic;Nine episode. A lot is happening very fast and on top of it the show is adding a shitload of clues and weird dialog and shot choices on top of it. This probably beats every other anime out there in total information per second. However, I've been pausing, rewinding and trying to get every detail and it's easily my favorite of this season.

The supernatural element is not shown because I think that's supposed to be one of the mysteries--is it really a supernatural show? The MC is a skeptic who runs a website dedicated to the occult, and a scientist trying to prove the existence of the occult is murdered. There are plenty of mysteries going on, but they're only coming along in dribs and drabs.
Who murdered the scientist,
what's the key for,
did the incest girl live with her brother's ghost,
is that demon that she talks to her her brother,
is it in her head,
what will be the result of the curse on the MC,
what's CODE,
who's the voice in the radio,
what's up with all the dead bodies, etc.

Things continue to slowly come together.

Detective guy is much smarter than he lets on, believing someone is copying that one girl's manga. She may possibly be a suspect, or perhaps even the key to catching the murderer.

Another guy that knows more than he lets on is the son, I'm not sure what he knows, but because of his relationship with the victim he may be very important later down the line.

Ryouka has a serious side to her, surprisingly. Could she be/connected to the voice coming from the main guy's bag? Speaking of the main guy, I'm really interested to see what happened to him after that cliffhanger.

The back story to that girl was interesting, and it helps flesh out her character as to why she can see a ghost, who is clearly her brother, and why she acts the way she does. A very creepy and disturbing back story, clinging to her brother after the death of her parents; seeing him as a guardian, protector, and parent. It's too bad to see her bullied and sexually harassed by teachers. I'm excited to see her role in the story.

Again, I think things are coming together in a much more coherent way than episode 1, but I think we need to start moving things along here. Unless of course this is more than 13 episodes, in which case the pace feels fine.

Finally, you have to wonder where mass murder comes in to all of this. It's quite the curve-ball.
