Japanese father stabbed his 12-year-old son to death after complaining the boy was failing to study for a school entrance exam.

Kengo Satake, the boy's 48-year-old father, told police that he "argued with his son for not studying" before a test to enter a private junior high school, public broadcaster NHK reported.

Competition for entry to the best schools in Japan is intense. Admission to a prestigious one is seen as having a decisive impact on a child's future prospects.

The son, named Ryota, was taken to hospital Sunday after the stabbing but died from loss of blood

Japan is no place to raise kids. Too much pressure and deranged folk around even their own family can be deranged.

A recent study published by Japan’s Cabinet Office examined the country’s more than 18,000 child suicides from 1972–2013 and found that 131 of those suicides occurred on September 1 — 32 more suicides than the next most-frequent date of death. Mapping for frequency, the study found distinctly larger numbers of suicides at the end of August and beginning of September, as well as during the middle of April. The former coincides with schools reopening after summer vacation; the latter, as schools reopen after spring break.

The numbers are glaring. Japan’s overall suicide rate is roughly 60 percent higher than the global average, a 2014 World Health Organization report noted. In 2014 alone, 25,000 Japanese people took their own lives — roughly 70 suicides every day. Last year, suicide was the leading cause of death for Japanese children between the ages of 10 and 19. Among teens and young adults ages 10–24, there are roughly 4,600 suicide deaths in each year, and another 157,000 instances of hospitalization for self-inflicted injuries.

On the subject of High-School Entrance exams:
"A 15-year-old boy in Hiroshima Prefecture committed suicide in December 2015 after his school gave him wrong information about his eligibility for a high school entrance exam, the local board of education announced."

The thought that such a person raised that child for 12 years disgusts me.

I always knew that Japan was quite notorious for inter-generational conflict due to the sheer amount of pressure placed on the young to do well academically but damn. This is pretty fucked to put it mildly.

God this is awful, if the kid doesn't want to study, let him fail. From that he should learn or invest his time in a better thing. Forcing someone to anything will always fail, eventually they will quit doing the action they are forced to do whenever the head figure is out.

This doesn't even make sense. He is just nuts. I mean if you care about your kids future you dont take their future away. Although it could be explained as him wanting to get money out of his future then thought if he wouldnt do good if he killed him it would be cheaper in the long run but I doubt that much thought was put into this.

Japan is 10 ways fucked up 'till next sunday when it comes to society, I swear. Gotta get your phd while you're still in diapers or else you've failed in life and there's no coming back. Everything's gotta be "THE" best everywhere there; grades, exam results, work positions etc. It's ok to aim for these things but it sounds incredibly exhausting - no wonder their suicide rate is so high and people break under that pressure.

I haven't checked in a while but I'm pretty sure they have the highest rates of teen suicide sooo if they don't kill their kids they'll most likely kill themselves. Much better in the US.
