I like investing in both of those but for the sake of choosing I pick DEX. I like keeping my characters agile.

Strength build are usually the ones I play. Squishing enemies into pancakes with a greatsword is quite satisfying.

Not saying DEX sucks though. I'm playing a dexterity fighter in a D&D campaign with my friends, and it's fun too. You just have to approach from a different angle.

Considering my last few pathfinder games, I've went with Cha or Int based characters. I honestly like the versitility that comes with a dex build if we're picking between the two. I'm not a huge fan of straight-edged warrior classes in RPGs. I usually go for the more flavorful class options.

I don't know about D&D but with the right stats, Composite Longbow on a Human Fighter is pretty fucking OP on pathfinder with the right feats. I've seen some broken stuff when someone has enough gold and properly min-maxes it.

Constitution
Constitution characters are usually more straight-forward to play and more forgiving when you screw up.
I don't really care fore having complicated ability rotations and optimized builds for stomping rpg games. I just want to go on an adventure.
Being tough enough to survive fire balls while I smash stuff is enough

I likeove the bow and arrow, so strength is quite as important to me as agility. I also love going stealth more than going berserk at every cave or bandit camp.

I haven't played Pathfinder myself. And I'm pretty much a noob at D&d still :D

Putting it all in dex or str will quarantee you make it alive in combat, but yes, those kinds of characters are kinda boring to play.

My other character is a high INT high elf cleric, who is arrogant as hell. Fun to play, but I'm not of much use in combat. At least I got enough AC to stay alive.

Speak softly. Carry a big stick.Depends on the game. Usually I go for a bow if possible which is commonly associated with Dex but in cases where bows aren't really a viable option, I'll go for strength over a dex weapon.

Charisma, I really like wordsmith type characters. I'll gladly handicap a characters physical abilities for it. Between the two in the OP, I prefer archers so dexterity.

A charisma character can be a good fighter too, depending on the game and its mechanics. You can make a mean glass-cannon out of high charisma sorcerers in D&D :D

I agree. Although CON is usually my second priority after STR. Especially on really grindy RPGs.

Well, yeah, I'm just saying I like characters that can manipulate with words even if it makes combat harder. I find that I like my character to be kind of a debuffer/disabler if I play a mage also.

And charisma is used for sorcerer's spells in D&D right?

Depending on games but generally dex.

From Software (Souls and Bloodborne) games I usually focus dex for my first play through, usually for a katana cause they're always decent. Try other builds when people find out more about the game (cause I grab the games on day 1 so everything still new).

MMORPGs I usually play whatever has the flashiest skills that isn't a mage for my first character. That's usually the dex stat class. Though for FFXIV, I went monk which uses str since ninja wasn't out at the time and I didn't care for bard. Though doesn't mean I didn't play them as you can switch jobs in FFXIV which changes your stats.

Playing Fallout 4 a couple months ago my build was dex/luk for my first playthrough.

Think those were the only games that mattered recently.

Yes. Warlocks, paladins and rangers use CHA for casting too if I remember correctly. I always found this odd. INT & WIS should be the casting skills in my opinion.

Fun fact: the wizard is the only class in D&D (5th edition) that uses INT for casting. All the remaining casters, such as clerics, use WIS for it.

I'd personally also pick DEX because it's a more versatile stat compared to brute strength imo.

Obviously INT, since I like playing as various magic users the most. :P
DEX would be next - if I'm not playing as a mage, I usually pick rogue/ranger/assassin type characters.
I like characters that are fragile and tricky to play, but deal devastating damage when used right. Finesse > brute strength.

STR

I usually don't like games that make me choose stat upgrading, though.

Keeping it simple like Final Fantasy is my ideal game. Leveling up automatically increases my stats, and I can further increase them with equipment.
Now I see the secret of the making of the best persons.
It is to grow in the open air and to eat and sleep with the earth.

Specialization is for insects.

If there is an interesting gameplay for an int based class, usually INT.
If there isn't then I'll try a class a bit middle ground int+ str or int+dext (note : in case the classes don't use those stats, then what I'm refering to "int classes" is magic/esper classes, so a middle ground is a classe that can both use esper/magic power and battle with weapons).
If there's really nothing interesting on that point, then I'll try something else, dext or str really depends on the gameplay.

BTW best mage gameplay is Arx fatalis. Same studio as Dishonoured for peoples who don't know of it.
Never seen better since then. Too bad the game was awfully easy and had no difficulty slider available to change this...
