Who do you think is the most skilled swordsman (or woman) in anime/manga? Also please not that this is not about power, magic or with any outside help, but rather skill with the sword.

in a fight with another swordsman barring muh magic, sasaki would win. idk if there's been another swordsman besides kenshin who's skill was praised as much. i'd say hiei would fight against him fairly but i'm biased.

Oh maybe, maybe it's the clothes we wear
The tasteless bracelets and the dye in our hair
Or maybe, maybe it's our nowhere towns or our nothing places
But we're trash, you and me
We're the litter on the breeze
We're the lovers on the streets
Just trash, me and you
It's in everything we do
It's in everything we do

A lot of people saying Kenshin probably doesn't know or has no idea how many times stronger Hiko Seijuro is, who happens to be his master.

It's funny how you say Kirito's the most skilled, given that he isn't even in-universe (Kayaba was a better swordsman, I'd say).
And he didn't even perform any outstanding feats of skill (like chopping vegetables mid-air, something most comedy samurai girls can do).

I wonder if Rakudai's MC can rival FSN's Assassin. One can learn the opponent's skill on the fly, the other can measure an invisible sword's length. (Assassin would win in a fight, because one of his abilities is that his swordsmanship cannot be "seen through" by his opponents or something like that)

King Bradley. I mean, when you are capable of defeat an homunculus with a super armor, destroy a fucking tank alone with only two swords or standing until your last breath despite having both of your arms ripped, when your only superpower is an enhanced eye and you don't have regenerative powers, you know that you are skilled (and badass) as fuck.

Merged Threads

Remember to say why you think a certain swordsman is the best and not just singular "___ is the best" answers, else the thread risks devolving into spam.

On that note, off the top of my head I can think of Utena Tenjou, though the reasons I like her aren't tied just to her swordsmanship, and more so for plot and character reasons.

Guts is power-type sure, but that doesn't mean he's lacking in skill. After all most of his opponents(the notable ones atleast) are stronger/toughter than him, he makes up for that with skill/experience and his gear.
Like he could match Zodd in a swordfight.

Well sure. But the problem is that Gintoki is portrayed as a lazy, apathetic, anti shounen jump protagonist. So it makes me cringe when he suddenly become what he makes fun of.

That and his lines in particular are worse than the usual protagonists. Cheesy lines about souls and such..

Honestly i am a big fan of Gintama, but after couple of times of rewatching (well i run out anime to watch and i have to download if i wanna to watch the new series) i feel the same way like this too. The action parts are not that interesting anymore imo but not with the comedy tho especially the old Gintama.
I haven't watched the new episodes, Shogun assassination arc. Hope it will turn good.

Yup. Many will disagree but the action and serious portions of Gintama, really brings the show down for me. I think the serious arcs aside from maybe 2 are really boring and generic. And I also can't help but get annoyed by the show's hypocrisy. It's not able to mix comedy and seriousness appropriately.

Shogun Assassination arc is really hyped by manga readers so it will probably turn out decent, at least as good or better than 4 divas arc.

I don't get you guys. This should be obvious af.

1. Wields a 190cm sword that shouldn't be that easy to wield at all. Yet he swings it around like a dagger.

2. Fights against multiple Noble Phantasm users with a normal, human-made sword. Repels every one of them, INCLUDING BERSERKER, with the help of Caster.

3. Pisses off Caster, his ribs are turned inside out, continues to speak normally as if nothing happened.

4. Has a skill on the level of an NP, which he got by doing the same thing over and over until reality gave up and let him have that move.

And look at them stats:

Manages to fight (post-Caster UBW) Saber to a standstill, and only loses because he deliberately forced an end to their fight.

But all this just shows he's a mediocre swordsman. If I had to go for one, it'd be Sebastian from Black Butler. Everything he does, including swordsmanship, is perfect.

Yes, he can. His movements are far above Assassin's level. There's a reason why he's the perfect butler.

No, he cannot. A+ agility = more than 50 times faster than the top speed of a normal human's movements. Not even Saber could escape from it, even when her stats got inflated at the end of UBW.

No, that's not how it works. As according to the Oxford English Dictionary, used widely in defining words in both normal and legal circumstances, a swordsman is "a man who fights with a sword".
