I loved it. Visuals are stunning. And I love Shirayuki's voice!

This episode felt really like an OVA, because it felt like the show doesnt even need more episodes, since this first episode was so complete that the show doesnt necessary need anymore episodes, lol xD

Shirayuki is love Shirayuki is life!

This looked interesting, so I gave it a try. I'm liking what I'm seeing so far.

The animation is really really stellar in some places. It just looks so nice and fluid. The art is very clean too.

Not really a huge fan of this genre, but I think this one has promise.

I really love how Bones handled this episode. The background art, animation and the ost are simply beautiful. My only complaint is that they didn’t adapt the character designs from the manga.. Akizuki Sorata’s art is just too beautiful that I can’t help but feel a little disappointed. Somehow, it feels like the character designer checked the first few chapters [and not the latest ones] and based the designs on that. Oh well, I might be wrong. :P

Aside from that, Bones did a great job! I can’t wait for Obi to appear! <3

This is really good so far! The art is amazing. <3 Shirayuki seems like a really good MC so far. Zen is really adorable. <3
I haven't read the manga for this, and I can't really see exactly where it's going now... I guess everyone travels for a little while, goes to Zen's castle or something...
How many episodes will there be total? Does anyone know?

I liked how they tweaked the 'poisonous apple' plot device from the original tale of Snow White and incorporated it in this. Instead of an evil queen/sorceress/step-mother, a douchey prince who is bent upon having the heroine as his concubine by hook or crook delivers the apple(s).

I picked this up on more or less a whim. I'm pretty surprised that I actually liked this episode because I thought I have gotten over fluffy shoujo stuff. As it usually happens in my case, the show I don't plan on picking up initially—and even when I do eventually, I go into it without an iota of expectation—turns out to be the most enjoyable one (last year it was Barakamon). The pilot was decent. A heroine who doesn't get intimidated easily is a good sign. Here's hoping they handle her character well.

TragicRomance said:
"We have white hair, blue hair, yellow hair- wait the entire rainbow minus red. How dare you be red. Oh, how strange." That's what I feel whenever someone questions Shirayuki's hair.
Lol, I was thinking the same, but it's a matter trivial enough to effortlessly activate a willing suspension of disbelief. Besides, they have already established in the beginning that red hair, in this verse, is something that's exceptionally rare, with the implicit suggestion that other crazy hair colours straight out of a rainbow pallette being apparently 'normal'.

The thing that's bugging me though is how Shirayuki doesn't bother asking who Zen and his companions actually are and what they're up to in the woods when they meet. That seemed a bit unnatural. I mean, isn't that one of the first things that you instinctively ask someone when you meet and get acquainted with them by chance? It seems as if the scriptwriter(s) deliberately eschewed it for the sake of convenience of making the 'big revelation' at the end of the episode.

I think Zen kind of answered that question when he told Shirayuki that "the house was unoccupied so he and the gang sometimes stay there to hang around".. it wasn't the exact quote of course.. but the meaning is kind of the same. XD

Shirayuki doesn't ask because *CLICK AT YOUR OWN RISK. I STRONGLY RECOMMEND THAT YOU DON'T AND JUST ENJOY THE ANIME*

Of course she thought they were the owner of the place where they let her in even though they use that place for just hanging out. Also, even if she asked, as if Zen would tell her straightaway. Or do you want me to spoil the fun and tell you that Zen

What? I only guessed since it's a shoujo and there are 2 males and 1 female protagonist. By logic it's kinda obvious but I might be very wrong nonetheless since I never read the manga.

I liked the first episode. Hoping it lives up to the manga. IF they stick to the way the manga progresses it might turn out very well but it would take too long to get anywhere good if it did follow the manga though :)

That he does. But then the question that automatically follows is who they are, what with them toting their swords, you know. They surely don't have the air of common folks who are just hanging out in the woods and killing flies.

And yet she goes ahead anyway and tells Zen about her being pursued by a certain someone who wants her to become his concubine and her running away from home to flee him. Okay, she was in a kind of dead-end because she needed Zen's help to untangle the strands of her hair that got stuck between the splinters of bark; she had to tell him in exchange of his help because that's the condition he placed before her. Someone who wouldn't want to get involved with strangers would've lied straightway, or better off, would've left immediately after tending to the matter at hand, but she gives him a rough idea of her reason behind running away from home and engages in a brief chat. And that brings me to the main point: Let's assume it somehow didn't strike her to ask the aforementioned question immediately after meeting Zen and his companions due to a string of unexpected things happening all at once and preventing her from thinking straight (although that's not convincing enough but let's assume it for now). Moments later when she goes for a walk in the woods and Zen follows her, they have a brief chat (the scene referred to above). At this point it becomes difficult to believe that she still doesn't ask anything about him. If I happen to meet someone and and tell him or her quite a bit about myself, the next thing I'd do is to ask him or her "And what about you?" or something along those lines. That's how a natural conversation flows. Moreover, like I said earlier, with Zen and his companions toting swords, it's only natural that one would be curious about them, no matter how hard one is trying to keep himself or herself from getting involved in the matters of strangers. Okay, fine, even if she doesn't blurt out the question, the writer(s) could've at least inserted a tiny segment of her wondering the same. The fact that the question doesn't cross her mind in the first place is what seems contrived.

Doesn't matter whether or not Zen would have told her straightaway. He could've dodged the question when asked, but the writer(s) didn't include that part in the script to begin with.

Those who are interested to compare Episode 1 with Chapter 1:

I would like to emphasize on how expressions can convey more message than actions or words. I just read the chapter again and I cannot but give the episode more than a B+ as an adaptation.

Spoiler contains more manga scans that are already covered in this episode.

Well apart from some dialogues not covered, the part where she was depressed saying this ''apple'' has gone bad, her expression was actually better in the anime

I have pretty high hopes for this series when I read the premise. I love fairy tale retellings, and the twists on it seems pretty neat.

After the first episode though, I'm a bit disappointed. It felt... a bit cliche and stiff in places. The beginning of the ep was good, I like Shirayuki and that she's independent and free-spirited; her interactions with Zen are kinda cute. But what kinda bothered me was the part where Zen came to Shirayuki's "rescue", and how "I'm poisoned but I'm actually okay" and "oh guess what, I'm actually a prince". It felt somewhat forced.

I see a lot of ppl compare this to Yona, and I can see why. But I got more of a Soredemo Sekai wa Utsukushii vibe from it. I think I like Nike more though, she's got more sass. Shirayuki is cool, but she's also kinda boring atm

However, I'll keep watching and see where it goes. Hopefully less cliche and more depth to the characters ('cause after the first ep, they feel kinda flat and almost Mary Sue, though I'm only judging it on one ep so probably not a fair assessment). I hope Shirayuki and Zen's interactions become more dynamic and fun (ie more teasing) rather than bland fairy tale romance (even though this is based on a fairy tale XD).

Yeah, I raised an eyebrow at that "I was poisoned, but since I have been building up immunity in case I ever get poisoned I'm okay now" part as well, but the revelation about him being a prince didn't come as a surprise to me at all because from the very beginning I had seen that coming. There were quite a few pointers towards that. What would've surprised me rather is if he didn't turn out to be one.

Speaking of bland romance, I'd prefer if a love triangle doesn't pop up in this, particularly the kind whose sole purpose is to have one of the lead characters wake up one fine day and realise that they're in love with the other lead only after a third party enters the picture.

I heard that the first chapter was supposedly released as a one shot so it might explain why some scenes seems rushed or forced. I can't remember where I heard or read it though.

This may be too shoujo for me but I love series with kings, princes, kingdoms and all that jazz so I'm sticking with it.

Also, the main character is an apothecary/pharmacist just like myself so I like her for that.

The humor is super cheesy though. Not a fan of that.
