You know in many animes villains get forgiven a lot even sometimes join the main people. They may have ruined many people's lives, even killed them but when they are sorry, it is ok. What do you think about it? Are there any characters you are still scratching your head about why they were redeemed? Any characters that you could not forgive?

Sometimes they don't care if they are forgiven like Midora, it's law of the jungle, he's strong and can do what he wants.
Wiping off all floura and fauna from the face of the planet is no big deal, his reason is good.

Didn't turn up on TvTropes. Let's be honest, I never seen this in a Disney Movie. Hans from Frozen got jailed. Shan Yu from Mulan died. Gaston fell off a cliff (Though to be fair they were willing to forgive him.) The main antagonist from Oliver and Company was hit by a train. Syndrome was sucked into a jet turbine. Claude Frollo fell into burning copper. Maleficient got stabbed and died. Evil Queen from Snow White died. Cinderella gave the middle finger to her step mother. (Though she was willing to help her step sister with her love life in the sequel.) Turbo/King Candy was hit by burning cola.

Nope, Disney seems to have a habit of killing off evil people. Classic fairy tale formula they like to push on the public.

Oh I wasn't being literal.
I meant that as, since Disney animations tend to always have some bright side 100% of the time, its not strange that even the most despicable villains in anime could be forgiven for what they've done.

There's a line where forgiving someone can be done well and where it is just retarded and this crossed the line worse than anything I have ever seen.

Seriously thought Introvert made a thread at first.

It can definitely become overly preachy and the wishful thinking can get a bit excessive, but I think at its core there are valuable lessons to be had. If someone is truly remorseful for what they've done and changes for the better, their future contributions would be a far greater righting of their wrongs than any punishment. Isn't it more fruitful if a thief changes his ways and builds a school for children in need of education as opposed to simply locking him up.

Les Miserables: Shoujo Cosette deals with this theme and really focuses on the question of redemption and how far it can reach.

Are you not underestimating the fact that Obito was brainwashed by Madara? Keep in mind Obito was a kid. And he would die if he wasn't saved by Madara. Madara allowed him to live and trained him. On top of that he brainwashed him.

Kakashi not saving Rin did not help either. Obito nearly died for him. He gave him his eye. He had only one request for Kakashi to protect Rin.

And Obito would have died if he decided to betray Madara.

I don't think it is Obito's fault for being brainwashed.

And even then he helped in the end not just to save Naruto but to defeat Madara and Kaguya.

You must always forgive your enemies. Even if that person is likely to stab you in the back at any given moment. If you don't learn to forgive and forget, then you're descending to their level (the most gruesome, horrifying situation one could find themselves in)

It depends on context.

When i first watched DBZ, I was very upset that Goku stopped Kirllin from killing Vegeta. But after watching Namek saga, I was glad Vegeta didn't die. I think he is the best characterized, and fleshed out character in the series.

Forgiveness is a difficult aspect. There are times when it's justified, but then there are times where it's absolutely stupid.

I hate it when MC's shout: "I'll never forgive you!" to their opponent / enemy.
Why even make that statement, do you honestly think the enemy would care?

Crocodile (OP) and Minerva (FT) on the top of my head right now.
A lot of people can't forgive obito, but i myself forgive him at the end although i admit that his reason to become evil is stupid.
