Sorry for the late response! I simply chose music because I could and I was curious to see how it all works and such -- I made the decision many years ago as a young child, so it's no surprise that I now think it may not have been the BEST idea. However, I do not hate music, I simply don't really care about it much anymore. Regarding your violin playing though: string instruments are especially tough and they take a looooong time to get good at. Ask any professional musician, even the prodigies will concur.

Yeah, I can imagine Bleach falling into the typical shounen trap of getting dry and weak as it goes on. Especially after its captured its initial audience, i.e., money makers.

I'm pretty sure I'm not. I remember not enjoying the anime a lot despite the great expectations I had for it from all the positive reactions I was getting from friends and other users. There were enough moments for me to also tie ecchi with the anime, but the reality is I watched it months ago and perhaps my memory is hazy.

"For example, I find more acceptable to have ecchi on a comedy oriented anime than ecchi on action oriented anime. On comedy ecchi can be used to create some funny awkward moments, on action on the other hand, character development and plot plays a bigger role It tends to just get in the way of that and create tonal inconsistencies."

That there is essentially my view of it. I think you are completely right actually, and I apologize for not bringing up the comedy exception, since, indeed, in a comedy, the ecchi may actually be significantly important. In other genres though, it is often detracting.

A nine?! Wow! Must be pretty good then, despite the criticism you have provided on its large cast. Now I definitely want to start it, but I do have other shows to tackle first unfortunately.

I do have lots of time around since I just have AP tests which are like big finals, but since I'm in my senior year, I don't care much for them.

Yes I am! But I'm not super passionate about music. I play the viola.

That's some sad news then. I started the behemoth that is Bleach and was hoping that the show would stay good and interesting so that I don't just die and drop it at like 67 episodes or something. Hopefully I can stay hooked and get to the end. So far, it's alright. I'm not super interested, but I'm not particularly bored either. A friend of mine told me that the Save Rukia Arc is one of the best arcs ever made, so I was really interested in seeing how true that statement is. I'm in that arc at the moment, and so far I don't see the "best," part, but its not bad. We'll see.

One Piece is... overwhelming. I can't imagine watching 600 freakin' episodes. That's why I tried the manga. I actually loved reading One Piece because of the humor and the intense (albeit, typical shounen) moments. I've given it a big break, but that's mostly because I got busy all of a sudden.

I didn't even like FMP's humor. I think there were some respectably funny moments, but lots of anime can pull off a few of those. Lots of the moments were some typical, overused ecchi moments intended to generate some form of meaningful romantic connection with a touch of humor, but my reaction was always "Wow, really?" Like, are we really going to laugh at how her skirt is perfectly short enough to show off her panties? Or that she tripped in the most convenient angle so as to land onto Sousuke, sprawling over like her subconscious suddenly knew that she was supposed to be posing for an ecchi shot -- her panties still showing. Bravo, true romance at its best (sarcasm).

Perhaps I'm too picky/pretentious (and to be honest, I probably am) but I really despise sincere romantic character relations developed through insincere interactions, and hey, read that over again and tell me if its really THAT picky. I gave the show a 6 in the end, but I remember really wanting to give it a 5.

Something you'll realize about me is I actually don't respect the ecchi genre or ecchi moments most of the time. I find it to be a waste of precious time for your show and almost always an attempt to make money and get attention for your show. There are definitely some moments where making a woman appear sexy and attractive is useful and necessary to the development of her character or the furthering of the plot, but usually its just a ploy to get views, and I just don't like that. If people like that, be my guest, no problem because hey, I like pretty girls too! but I won't be giving a show the same rating as I would without those scenes, because its evidence of bad priorities. A good way to put it is that I don't need Tolkien to start writing erotica to show me that Arwen (elf maiden) is beautiful.

Haha, yeah, it's kind of ridiculous when you think about how long we have to study, being people who pursue higher level education. I'm finishing my last year of high school and my university will start this August!

I've been like you. I haven't much time to watch anime, whereas before I was pumping out a show every week! I did however finish up some of the straggling shows that had been on my to-watch list for decades, like Nodame Cantabile and Denpa Onna to Seishun Otoko.

Nodame Cantabile was great. I think I gave it a 9 (and I don't have inflated ratings). They did a good job with the romance of it, and the characters... and my gosh, as a musician myself I loved the musical touch and theme.

Denpa Onna to Seishun Otoko was terrible, I thought. It put a bunch of trope and cliche crap in there, and tried to justify it by making fun of the whole thing, but in the end I was just overwhelmed with "seen this, been here and don't want it ever again."

Now I'm tackling the shounen behemoth that is Bleach. Wish me luck! :P

How do you feel about Full Metal Panic? I'm really interested because I watched it and didn't fancy it much, but the general consensus on it is that its pretty good.

Finally, I have Baccano! ready to go, but haven't started it. Your minireview there though may be the factor that gets me to watch it!

Haha. Yeah, I've noticed!

It's alright. I'm glad to see you're back. Any new anime we're watching?

Sorry about that. I am still fairly new to MAL, and the sad thing is I was looking at that question mark near my "Profile," tab for a long time with a puzzled look until I realized it was a friend request. Haha...
