4 - 6 huh?

The episode gave a good amount of screen time to Chris, which imo deserves it quite well. Some motivation words from the Coach too. Kind thrilling ending I guess. I expect pacing to pick up next time.

Our lord and savior jesus chris-senpai is ossim as usual!

I like this episode its nice seeing everyone struggling to get better, still Ochiai the new coach really loves touching his chin btw. Chin fetish that is all

AND WOO FOR seeing the third years again.
Eijun is love. Eijun is life.

That really was quite the close match to only having caught up by the 7th inning! The Coach giving his team a fine yelling was pretty cool.

Chris was quite convincing though, telling Sawamura to pitch outside and he can still be invincible!

Nice to see Miyuki, Chris and the Coach all being there to look out for Sawamura though.

Ochiai really is making it clear how his coaching style is really different and that the administrators also know it too. Having no room for rivals and the ace being absolute, can't really tell how I feel about it until it happens. It does make the Fall tournament really important for Sawamura.

This show is so good. I personally liked how even though they won in the books, it was a loss for the team. That was a bad bad game. Coach's speech after the game was dead on and what those guys needed to hear.

The team has so many problems they need to internally work on and now the coaching conflict is huge. I don't think they will falter in loyalty at all but Furuya has me worried. Ace title is going to his head and the new coach is adding to that ideology.

Starting to feel sad that the show is going to end in another 3 more episodes.. I've always unconsciously choose to watch Diamond no Ace first to start off my day. Another good episode this week!

Second season will start almost immediately (8 days, to be exactly) after season 1 finale, so it's not something to worry about

Hmm I have mixed feelings about sacrificing team development for one player. At least from a military mindset that just puts all your eggs in one basket and is really risky. I would think the same for baseball or any sport. What happens when that person leaves or gets injured....

It was so good to see Chris again and amazing he was able to get Sawamura back to his smiling self.

I dunno why coach Ochiai made it known that he wouldn't have switched him out. It undermines the head coaches authority. About the only thing it would do is give Furya more confidence the next time he pitches. About the only redeeming quality was he knew exactly what the players were feeling.

I also felt a bit better that Furuya was having an off day as well. Kinda even'ed out the yips that Sawamura's struggling with.

Not only is the team loosing their best players but also the new coach seems like total trash. I hope at least something good happens before the season ends.

Agreed. For example, what would've happened if Ochiai was the coach from the beginning and only tried to develop Tanba? Then they would've had no proper back up for Tanba who got injured early on, and then came back not in his top condition. This is obviously not the way to go, and Ochiai will need to see why Kataoka is doing things his way, and maybe even how well it might end up for the team. I think taking Furuya off the mound to cool off and then having him see Kawakami being able to do so well for nine innings on his own (granted, only against a mediocre team) should make Furuya think over what he did wrong. Though apparently, he still didn't really get why he was doing bad on the mound.

Of course, everyone else's reaction to what Furuya caused in the first inning was also not the best, as Kataoka pointed out. Hopefully the next episode they will get back in shape because yay third years!!!

Looks like Coach Ochiai really likes Furuya. I hope Sawamura can change his mind by the time he takes over the team. I miss watching episodes where Sawamura's the pitcher.

Looks like we'll get to see the 3rd years in action again next episode! I'm gonna guess that the third years will kick some ass :P

I don't like this whole yips thing they've got Eijun stuck in. First off, if that was the case, he was able to play perfectly fine as a closer until the yakushi game. Okay, and even if we say those were easy that's why, I still don't like it.
The last time I saw this was while watching Major. And that was believable, looking at Honda's traumatic past, plus losing on such a massive stage, THAT causes yips.
And sure, I suppose such a small thing like Eijun's experience could cause it, but still. I feel it's very overdramatic, especially given Eijun has always been such a confident, live in the moment sort of character.
That aside, I really, really miss the third years. The new team still has a long way to go. Speaking of, shouldn't miyuki try to fix his problem of not being able to hit without runners before criticizing others??

Have we seen the coach shout like that before? He was so pissed. It was good stuff.

Furuya's definitely going to get cocky. The new coach is boosting his ego quite a bit. I hope Sawamura will work out his pitching control and give him a run for his money. >:I

completely agree. the new coach guy is some bad bad news imo. and he basically doesnt care about anyone else on the team besides furuya? thats a terrible coaching strategy for a team game like baseball, not to mention how boring the series would be with jus furuya lmao.

and srsly... did no one notice that furuya was pitching terribly like sawamura??? sawamura got all this shit from everyone for like daaaays. ._.;;

really? the only reason i would want to see that strategy played out is 1. to see it crash and burn (srsly) or 2. everythings amazing and furuyas mvp and is the whole baseball team, and this series finally ends so that I can give it a 3 without any regrets. or the hidden option 3, the new coach and furuya go elope somewhere in their little "ace" dream.

that being said, i havent read the manga, so i dont know how far this series is or whatever happens ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Amazing how Ochiai is supposedly this great coach when his coaching philosophy has one giant flaw in it; baseball is a team sport.

It's because Eijun is so confident that yips got such a great grip on him. The bigger the leap, the greater the fall. Also, how is it overdramatic? Eijun is a rookie, that played in the final of a huge tournament and then caused the flow of the team to stop by accidentally pitching a deadball, to the head no less. Remember how badly he took Raichi's homerun? This deadball incident was worse.

While I can see benefits from Ochiai suggestion, I can not agree with it. Sacrificing whole team for one person is wrong and kills the whole purpose of it being a team game.

He doesn't see other players as humans, just paws. Not to mention that this style of play would turn Furuya in a far more egoistic type of character and turn others into empty shells. There is no joy in winning with team like that.

He does not care if someone falls apart as long as the player with talent prospers. His way of coaching will destroy tons of potential good players like Sawamura.

Furuya really need to feel the frustration and get same punishment as everyone else, that what keeps his ego under control. I fear the moment Ochiai will become the coach, Furuya will turn into an extremely unlikable character. Besides what does Ochiai plan to do if Furuya gets an injury? There are no back ups by his strategy.

So many flaws in Ochiai's coaching policy...
1. not switching out the ace no matter what = losing the game aka the tournament
2. creates a lazy ace since he won't get off the mound
3. no motivation and pressure from rivalry of another pitcher
4. pitching every game will destroy that shoulder pretty quickly
