I'm old and grumpy, growing older and getting grumpier by the day.
Whats On My Mind:
Calling a show good just because it is different is irrational. There is nothing wrong with reusing cliche tropes. Sticking to what works and making small changes along the way to stand out works best. A review that starts by saying this show is bad because it is cliche is not worth the time it takes to read it.
Have you seen reviewers that give all ones or all tens (or any other same rating) across the board in all categories for a show being reviewed? Let me tell you something, in reality there is no show that is so bad that it deserves all ones in all categories. Someone would have to try very hard and go completely out of their way to make something that bad. Similarly for any other rating.
When a reviewer gives that repeated rating to all categories of the show it just shows that he either let his emotion take priority over providing a useful summary of the score, or is just plain incompetent to accurately and objectively write a review.
There are great shows out there that utterly fail in one department such art/animation but excel in others such as story telling or voice acting. A good reviewer is able to recognize that.
