| I agree with the Pope , ridiculing someone's faith can lead to a knee jerk reaction. Although resorting to murder over something like that is obviously ludicrous. Religion just like nationality, race etc. is a form of identification so insulting, ridiculing, vehemently attacking someone's faith could be a personal attack for some people. Freedom of speech and freedom of expression should always be upheld but they can be abused. For example holding rallies to promote violence against a certain group or for the sole purpose of spitting vitriol to promote hate against a specific group. |

Because, in the end....the right to speech is greater than your hurt feelings. The second we say that X is not allowed to say this or that is when the dominoes begin to fall one by one. Freedom of Speech is non-negotiable as long as you don't infringe the rights of others....and unfortunately for sensitive people, hurt feelings are not an infringement of rights....at least not in America or the majority of the first world. |

| Honestly everyone loves making the Catholic church look bad with all the scandals its been through, now I really wouldn't be suprised if the media twisted around the Pope's words to make him look like a dick cause thats what they do, for example maybe the Pope merely meant that if you insult people expect retaliation regardless of whether ita right or wrong, if you piss people off such as insulting their mother although turning the other cheek is ideal its not what most people will do when something they care about is mocked. I expect we'll get a clearer idea when some non biased newspapers report it. |

| Anyways, let's see what Jesus said about people like Me that constantly mocks christianity! "But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you" -Matthew 5:44 ^This Jesus guy is even more tolerant than the fucking pope! Seriously, I sometimes do feel a little bad for constantly bashing christianity the way I do....if only cuz I genuinely do like Jesus, but I can't stand his annoying fan club and his Daddy is by far the worst dictator in all of fiction. |

| LOL, people love giving the Catholics crap but they're surprisingly progressive on certain issues like those regarding science. Catholics don't believe that you should take the Bible literally like those New Age Creationists. And besides, he isn't exactly wrong. You do have a right to free speech but come on, don't be stupid. What are you going to get by going up to a Muslim and saying you hate his religion or you insult Christians who wish you a Merry Christmas? Nothing. In fact, you're gonna be worse off if you admit openly that you're an atheist even AMONG other atheists because really, no one wants to trust an asshole. You can be openly atheist or critical of religion online due to anonymity. No one knows who you are, so feel free to speak your mind or shit out of your ass. But when you're among people in real life, best to be respectful even if you don't approve of their religion. |

This has nothing to do with freedom of speech or expression of religion. It's a bunch of idiots poking at each other under the guise of freedom of expression until the other snaps. If you keep dicking around with bears then it's no fucking surprise you'd get maw to death. It sucks that you died, but if perhaps you had some bloody foresight you'd stop provoking the bear. Freedom of speech doesn't meant exempt from consequences. It especially doesn't mean you can say whatever dumb shit drags itself into your head. This isn't the first time that publication had an attack on them so clearly they thought themselves immortal. The murderous terrorist went to similar extremes to assassinate those office workers as the million or so people marching in the streets in their memory; because a bunch of comic writers that never even wanted to start a polite and constructive discussion are for some reason held to a higher regard then the hundreds of innocent children murdered just weeks before. Go figure. |

| Ironically people are focusing on one specific quote and not the purpouse of said quote which is to try and get people to stop being raging bigots against others. I mean christ are people not even reading any of the other quotes he was saying cause the guy is actually for once holding the church responsible for shit “Let’s consider our own history. How many wars of religion have we had? Even we were sinners, but you can’t kill in the name of God. That is an aberration.” “Everyone has not only the freedom and the right but the obligation to say what he thinks for the common good … we have the right to have this freedom openly without offending,” he said. people are fucking morons if they get mad what this dude is saying here. Hes trying to qualm heavy bigotry and animosity between catholics and islamics in paris cause maybe, trying to stop people from killing eachother is a good idea. |

And he thinks telling people to STOP insulting religions is the best way? Giving into the demands of terrorists? That's the solution? Yes, let's all live in a PC world where we're all nice to each other and anyone that insults someone else instantly deserves whatever punishment they get.....does this make sense? In the example I gave, I showed how non-bigots (the ACLU) protected the rights of Bigots (Neo-Nazis) to hold a march where they would spew all type of hate speech towards a predominantly Jewish neighborhood.... Check out the Westboro Baptist Church....they go all around the U.S doing nothing more than hating on absolutely everyone. And yet we allow this, no one stops them....because their freedom of speech is indeed more important than our hurt feelings. |

And people still do that....the KKK still exists, they're still allowed to do what they want as long as they don't actually infringe on anyone's rights. BTW, no one....absolutely NO ONE cared about Mohammed drawings until Muslims MADE IT INTO AN ISSUE. After that, everyone went nuts with making all types of drawings. When priest have been caught raping children, they have been PROTECTED by the Church, they are not even fired from their positions, and in various cases they have even avoided justice. Well, I would say that most people consider teachers to be moral guides and that a teacher molesting a child is just as much a betrayal of societal trust as a priest doing it. And there are plenty of cases when teachers get away with long-term abuse and only get punished by it when the media picks up the story, years later, often with fellow teachers and admins running interference so the molester doesn't get caught. I will say that the Church has been incredibly dishonest, and oftentimes downright evil, in the way they've faced the issue, but I still think it's unfair to call it the "religion of pedos". |
