THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
A lot of background story this episode. It feels a bit late at this point of the show but whatever. Apologizes also won't work now since his mother won't ever come back..

The Kou/Futaba moments had more drama this episode imo. The way the two connected had an interesting feeling to it built previously on the experiences the two already went through.

He was dreaming the time when his mother got cancer, the doctor didn't want to tell him about her condition because he's too young. She sensed it even though he didn't tell her, and she chose to stay with him.

What an accident when he ran away from them!
Then that description when she told the teacher about hard to open up his heart. As expected, he went to those guys. She finally understood what kind of pain feeling he has, but she still wants to care for him. lol @ him feeling her heavy. He finally found someone who can forgive him for the mistake he made about his mother and fully open up his heart.

One more ep. Seems like he's over with it?

Right in the kokoro!
Kinda wish the could add Kou's inner thoughts why he don't wanted pick up the phone...
and that Koutaba at the end... ;(
*crying*
Even if this is so heartbreaking episode/moment
I love it so much! <3

KIKUCHI IS FINALLY HERE :D

the anime did a really good job at showing how/what exactly Kou regretted. The episode was really nice with Futaba helping Kou!

Background story about Kou. I don't think that it's late.
Only on the recent épisodes Kou started to care about his friends, so I think it was the right moment, if it was earlier it wouldn't be that great.

On the dream, was that girl, when Young Kou exited the hospital, someone important? She was entering the hospital, and... wel... she was detailed, and from the camera angle...

also, tat guy that ''lost his virginity'' with Futaba, is he going to be important?

And Kou being Kou when both of them fell down, and he finally opened his hearth.

DEM FEEELZ!!! Loved this episode. Kou's monologues were sooo goood!!

The backstory with his mom made me tear up when he was crying and shouting in the room D*: So sad!!! TT__TT

And the ending part with Futaba being a storm and breaking his knob-less door of a heart was beautiful >.<! His shock of having tears falling was nicely done :3 I'm liking Kou more and more.

I guess the guy who got his balls groped by Futaba is the infamous Touma?

I feel more emotional than when I did reading the manga chapter.
These Koutaba moments are so precious!

On this episode of Ao Haru Feels, I be like...

The first third (about his momma) and the last third of this episode were like kryptonite to my eyes. This was definitely my favorite episode of the season as the drama and emotions didn't feel contrived or petty (aka insignificant love triangle involving Yuuri). We got to the core of Kou and finally started to understand where his "tsun" comes from and move past it a little. I liked the analogy of Futaba being compared to a storm (yes, corny I know). Also, awesome accidental crotch grab moment by Futaba (seen below). This with the training camp moment, she may subconsciously be a hoe :)

Only one more episode to go so hopefully we get a little payoff with the Kou x Futaba relationship. This has been one of my more enjoyable shows of the season so I'd love for things to end with a bang. Or a confirmation of a second season so I don't have to read the manga.

Learning more about Kou's past and the regrets that still weighs him down.
Kou crying at his house :(
Using the metaphor of Kou's heart being a door. Enjoyed how she said that she will just break in!
Futaba crying for Kou and wanting to understand him!
The fact that Futaba got through to Kou! That was an amazing scene and really looking forward to a Kou that opens his heart freely :)

I think this ep was definitely a step up in the koufutaba department but with the bit when futaba lands on the ginger kid i think this was done on purpose to introduce a new character maybe to add a dramatic climax hmm who knows i just think they added too much in that scene for it just to be a humorous addition
anyway at least that is what i am hoping a dramatic climax to end it then maybe a follow on of a 2nd core ^_^ i cried way too much in that episode -0- but i think the Yuri and futaba collisions dragged on a bit >o>

I was going to up my rating to a ten, and then discovered I'd already done that. Clearly one of the best shows in a strong season. The touch of comedy in the middle allowed us to recover in time for the second tidal wave of emotion when he accepts Futaba's feelings at the end of the episode.

I don't think it's late to show Kou's past in this episode. Kou was supposed to be pretty mysterious the whole time, and we were supposed to know that there's more to him than we think, but Sakisaka didn't reveal his past until a little later because I think it has more impact this way? Like after we learn about what Kou had been through, then we can go, oh is that why he acted that way? Idk it's hard to explain, but I think it's well placed.

Cried when I read the manga, and cried when watching this episode ;_; Kou's suffering is too painful to watch, and I just love the part when he realized that he's been given permission to laugh and to have fun, to live. Recently I've been thinking that the manga is more about Kou than anything else (or maybe it's because I love him too much).

Ahh Touma's scene was hilarious! What an unforgettable way to introduce a new character.

I mostly like this show. If there's one thing I dislike about the show is how it glorifies conformism. The show acts as if engaging in 'normal school life' is the only path to happiness and I personally think that's a load of crap. Was it really impossible for Kou to find true friends outside of high school?

another great episode, damn that feels great.

about kou's past is kind of sad, about her mother and stuff, i can feel it clearly, nice one.

ohh i wish a girl in my life do something like futaba did to kou, a little bit jealous, yes of course, damn as if there's someone as bold as her in my life T_T

next is the last episode? c'mon bring a nice ending, whether happy or bad ending, make it so i won't complaint the last episode!!!

I guess I'm bewildered by all the uninhibited praise here.

I have to give it props for tackling family trauma and its effects on kids, but the depiction is coming off disappointingly weak/forced. I won't dispute his mother's death as the driving force for his continued despair and social reclusion, but the notion that he's still consumed by guilt for studying too much in middle school and being late for dinner is a bit much. It wasn't as if he abandoned or harbored antipathy for his mother. In fact, he seems to have regressed the most in high school, given that he's dropped out of the advanced program and now doesn't give two shits. This seems to have fallen into the pitfall common to rom/com dramas: lots of wailing but insufficient emotional investment/setup to make it realistic. However, while cheesily handled, his revelation regarding permission for happiness was a nice touch, as was the suggestion that he pushes others away before they can be taken from him. His affection for his classmates (and Futaba especially) has been distant but present since the beginning, but that "wall" may now have been breached...

The comedic relief really clashed with the serious tone of this episode. Seemed completely out of place.

Props to Futaba though...Her loyalty, affection, and persistence for Kou's well being better get rewarded.

Manga readers, do you think that next episode will end on Chapter 14 or Chapter 15? Just pick one without saying. Dont want to spoil it.

I think it will end on chapter 14, you know, the last scene of the chapter looks great for a last scene for the anime too

Plus

...I think they had a second season planned since the beginning (at least that's what I'm hoping for)

touma has officially been introduced. now the show will probably go downhill from here (i'm assuming there's going to be a 2nd season) because the manga does imo.

but kou's flashback was really powerful and well done. this is probably the 1st time i thought yuki kaji was decent.

however, i still can't bring myself to like futaba
