Do not cut short the movie because I tried to hold back tears during the whole vision, but in the end I did it more and I cried like a fountain, but it is NOT my disappointment he saw what had to be done.
Technically and visually this movie is amazing, even the animations are great, but in terms of plot had to bring those topics that have not seen, even from the perspective into the story of Menma was there, but the retelling concerned about this.
Final score of 8/10!

I hope there is a second season!

I have to say it was great to revisit the story once again and although those old and new scenes were mixed bit chaoticly, when it came to Kimi ga Kureta Mono (Secret base) ED song it totally got me. The only thing I would like more would be a hint of Anaru x Jintan relationship but guess it's pretty much set in stone with her letter to Menma. The question is only when. And as such, I am happy.

All in all, altough this movie wasn't necessary as original series is pretty self-contained and ended well, it was great watch to spend time during one late summer evening.

I liked it and thought it was great. Nice see more of the past.I wonder what Menma did reincarnate into. Did anyone see those anime ads and those DVDs in the DVD section in the game store where Jin-tan works? I saw Working!!, Black Butler, Sekirei, Silver Spoon, Oreimo, Strike Witches, Denpa Onna to Seishun Otoko, Paprika and even Anohana. I think I saw either Minami-ke or A-Channel and even kissxsis!

I thought there would be some development between the characters one year after, especially Jintan and Anaru, but nope, Mostly a recap so 8/10.

Didn't expect the recap to be done quite as well as it was, there were quite a number of new scenes and it complemented the older ones nicely. Good reminder about what a feels trip this series was, all in all a decent "sequel" for a series that was wrapped up strongly in the TV airing and a good recap and reminder to us who've forgotten what made AnoHana so moving.

Well, finally I saw the movie. And... what can I said? it was ok, I mean, if you forgot what you watch on the main series, this movie makes to remembered it. With the excuse that all are making a letter to Menma.

But, I like the final of the movie: the photo of Menma.

I'm a little bit more than slightly disappointed with this. It's like they cut and pasted all the saddest scenes from the show into one thing without new animation, and the new animation is a little lower quality in my opinion.

Tsurumi's hair looks all kind of just wrong in the one year older version. I wish Anaru had continued to wear her glasses like when she was a kid, but I guess we don't get much more change besides her hairstyle...

It's extremely easy to skip and have someone quickly explain the end. It's just not important to the story.

It was great and all, but as the others have said I would have appreciated a concise ending for the relationship between the characters.

Especially the Jintan and Anaru one, because I think it was hinted at Yukiatsu and Tsurumi ended up getting together.

I felt really bad for Anaru who is definitely my favorite character, but at least she seemed happy at the end,

The movie was great, but I would recommend anyone reading my comment to watch the entire series first. I can imagine that someone just seeing the movie would find it incomprehensible. The new scenes were very well done.

"Wakannaittebayo!" KYAAAAAA~ dat Menma is so kawaii! =D
This is basically a recap episode with new scenes after what happened, well, it's pretty good until now.
It's still sad to see these scenes again, I wasn't expecting this to still have this much "impact" on me... It just proves how good it was. Maybe it's cuz I watched the anime more than a year ago and don't remember much of the story :/
I wasn't expecting to find a little sequel that's mostly a recap movie this good...

Totally agreed. One of the best anime dramas I've ever seen, if not the best. *tears*
If I could I'd rate this 11/10.

Anaru is as kawaii as always kyaa~! =D those romance hints in the end :3
Pretty good OSTs
Did a bad choice in leaving the movie to watch later, now that I think of it, I should have watched it right after it aired :/

Like previously stated, I thought there'd be more development between Jintan and Anaru. But anyways, I really enjoyed watching how the characters turned out a year later and the recaps helped remind me how emotional this anime series was for me when I watched it.

This was so amazing!! I cried watching this even more than the series since I was already attached to the characters from the series. But damn, this is one of the most amazing stories in anime ever. And Menma is so amazing. Her voice actor did an excellent job.

I was hoping for more development of the story since prequel episodes! But still the title song (10 years after) together with Menma revealing herself to all of them at hide&seek game is so powerful that I immediately forgot I saw the same thing again, and it wasn't waste of time. I even went to youtube and watched the song performed life...

Doesnt Jintan look like the male MC of Heaven's Lost Property in this movie?

I liked this movie much more than the anime and its over the top drama.

So its been a year since Menma left, so I guess that the characters are in their second year and are like 17. And.... no... progress on the romance department between the Gary-Stu and the glasses chick or the male MC and Anaru.... Come on. Didnt like that Anaru didnt make much progress. Popo was still happy go lucky. At least the other three look like they have moved on.

Nice movie. 7/10

Didn't cry this time, but this movie gave some great closure. We got to see the thoughts of the others about that certain day and what led to it. The recaps were a bit much, didn't feel as much as back then when they played those (same for the ending scene with the song). I got a little bit pissed when Anaru climbed up to Jintan at the end and didn't confess. I would have wished for more romance progression.
In the end, Anaru and Yukiatsu remain my favourite characters of this series.

I've just watched the movie and it was great :) I really liked it.

Anyways, I have a question and I was hoping someone would be able to answer me :)
Where does the name of the anime come from? "We Still Don't Know the Name of the Flower We Saw That Day." I thought that after watching the movie I would understand (maybe) but I didn't :P
So... Anyone has any ideas?
Thanks ^.^

Off Topic: Glad to see someone using the original translated name of the Japanese version, I don't like how the English version translated it and I kinda wondered why they did that (even though only a few words have been dropped off from the initial title)?

Decided not to watch this for the longest time ever since finishing the series. Thought to myself there was no point in watching a recap movie. Boy did I wish I had seen this sooner, or perhaps it was nice to revisit Menma and pals after so long.

Fantastic movie. Love the insight on Menma's point of view during some of the events of the series. Seeing all the characters again was a treat. The little epilogue at the very end was good.

Of course when they replayed the ending of the series with the Super Peace
Busters playing hide n seek with Menma for the last time tears were shed. One of the best stories I've ever experienced. Loved every part of Anohana and it's glorious greatness.

I kept this film off for so long because I heard it was a lot of recap, but there was surprisingly a lot of new material 😁

Seems like Yukiatsu and Tsuruko are together now :) The only sort of disappointment is that there wasn't a confession scene with Anaru and Jintan. I actually read that the scene had to be cut :( But her reasoning as to why she wasn't ready yet was understandable.

This film was the reminder I needed of why I rated Anohana so high in the first place 😊

You know what? It was so disappointing that literally no development happened with how the status quo is so vehemently preserved in the movie especially with Jintan's "Menma's true wish was for us all to forever stay friends" that I wish Anaru just took Yukiatsu up on his offer to go out with him and just maybe that would have done good for both of them instead of her dooming herself to fruitlessly pine after Jintan for years on end like that. It's just so frustrating to watch, and I really feel for her, Jintan really is hopeless, and even if Anaru confesses, I can't see him responding with anything other than a cheap "sorry". I wish she had chosen move on.

Like I said in my Episode 11 post I will rate this movie 10/10 as an assembled score for both the anime and the movie. I gave the anime a 9/10 due to the shortage and missing pieces that I though the movie filled in well so my rating represent them as a whole! It just makes the most sense in my head :) The old scenes didn´t felt as they did in the anime andnot just because you´ve seen them before. This was pretty much fillers and new perspectives. As a standalone it quite poor as it uses a lot of old material directly from the anime... But a as completion to the anime it´s a satisfying watch and a must for any fan of the title.

Anohana is my favorite anime, but this movie didn't really live up to my expectations. (then again my expectations were extremely high) I wished they would have recapped more of the impactful scenes the tv series provided if they were planning to go that route, but as someone else mentioned it was actually mostly new material so I'm happy/satisfied.

That being said I still found it a very good watch and would definitely recommend it to anyone whos a fan of the series.

Wow, what a touching movie this was! Really enjoyed every moment of it. Unlike most people here, I found this movie to be better than the series because the recap scenes enhanced by the additional material really made it all the more interesting and as a consequence more emotional(though I cried for the series even more). Right when the opening of the tv series clicked in, I burst into even more tears after trying to hold all of that in. I mean, not only was the music exceptional but the timing. Ah, the timing... Well, the ending music played after the movie was also really soothing and fantastic. The movie began off with all the characters and their perspective of the story equally shared and told upon which was seriously great despite the emotions not hitting you as hard as it did with the series. To be honest, I found the tv series to be a bit too melodramatic so I think this amount was just about at the right extent. Animation-wise, both the tv series and the movie was absolutely brilliant and therefore a lucky bonus. All in all, like I mentioned earlier, the characters are more lovable and reasonable here than in the tv series so I personally like the movie even more than the tv series. 8.5/10 for the tv series and 8.7 for the movie. Nonetheless, both were really great!

Even when half of the movie is a recap that I watched a few years ago, I'm still crying like a little bitch. Goddamn it.

It's nice to see how much they've grown, yet Anaru and Jin-tan didn't really get together while Tsuruko and Yukiatsu seems to have progressed. It's just like that with Mari Okada's anime. Almost all of her romance anime I've watched didn't have a conclusive end main pairing or at least an unrequited love with tears.

Even though alot of the film was a recap of events of the main series, I still found it to be a very heartwarming experience. It was great seeing all of the characters and how they're deciding to move on after making peace with Menma and finally accepting her passing on. I didn't cry like with the main series, but I definitely still felt alot of emotions. That after credits scene was also a nice touch.

It's as bad as the first time I saw the series. They left out Menma's characterization in the TV series and reduced her as a plot device so they decided to make a movie just for her and she still ends up being another shallow character in the show. Way to go. Another cash grab used to play with nostalgia. What was even the point of this sequel? There's barely any new content and almost everything is just flashbacks and some additional commentary. I feel like I'm watching a recap movie. Just as the TV series, Anaru and Tsuruko are the only good things in this show. "Secret Base" though... it's really such an iconic song. It can boost the mood of the scene when it's played in the background. It will definitely go down in anime history as a classic. This song is the best thing to ever happen in this show.

I gotta admit, this movie made me laugh again because they showed Yukiatsu cosplaying as Menma again lmfao. That part in the show never fails to make me laugh.
