That's one of the things which made it predictable for me. "Uh, they are all so bad, but no there are actually good ones as well." Already seen a dozen times. Other things were that the female was a ghoul which got nicely spoiled from the intro sequence and that the girl in the café was a ghoul as well wasn't that hard to figure out either.

That is if there are any good ones. As far as it seems to go the MC will most likely just cliche into a territory and the show would revolve around fighting other territory's to eat. The End? No. There has to be a reason why they exist like the Giants in SnK. Will the MC confess the his friends/family about being a ghoul or will he eat them?

Now you made me just predict what would go on.. It's not making me disgusted with the show like that MC trying to eat that hamburger though.

As far as the whole females being ghouls go, it was obviously done on purpose. There were signs casted everywhere visually and with the BGMs. The studio definitely did that on purpose.

Oh they will be marvelous x)
Anyway, I missed your first impressions due to the storm, what did you think of the episode?
(trying to stay on topic and stuff)

It was great! I mean it's the first episode only so there's not much to comment on but or now the OST sounds ok and I paritcularly liked the ghoul's design. The way the episode ended with the OP or ED music in the background with MC agonizing for food was an awesome touch. As an anime only viewer I give it 5/5

I thought this show would do pretty badly but after watching the first episode maaaan was I ever soo wrong.

The dark atmosphere created was just soo damn awesome, the osts really complimented well with the episode

The played the pity factor quite well, made me feel quite bad for the main guy. Loved the way peirott animated this series, especially during the knife seen. You could really grasp the whole despair theme it portrayed

The ending theme was freaking awesome, I'm fully hooked on to this show and can't wait for more episodes, looks like it's going to be a fun season :)

Railgun is a kind of guilty pleasure for me and Index is the generic one.

That's true but didn't even do that right in the first episode. But as I said there is still tons of room for improvement. So I don't get why you're all being so anal about my opinion.

Why insult eachother, people have different tastes, maybe he likes Railgun for the same reasons that you dislike it, and maybe he dislikes Ghoul for the same reason other people like it, different people enjoy different things, people who like comedies will prefer comedies, people who like sci-fi will prefer sci-fi, you get the point, you can't force someone to like or dislike something thats just being selfish.

Yes I liked the OST too. And not just the designs but the art in general looks great imo. So even if it's a 'fail' it will at least be pretty while doing that :p
It was rushed wasn't it? Hopefully they slow it down next episodes because I'd hate for this to be just another horribly paced anime.

No way man this episode was great
I am not scared that the fact that they went through 5-6 chapters on this because the manga has 123 chapter or more
The acting and screaming where just like I imagined.
But I didn't want his pain to look so painful ,poor Ken
The whole date thing was too good to be true.

It's pretty odd you complain about a cry baby protag that gets powers considering you like madoka and what shounen speeches? Also what normal person wouldn't act like he was considering the situation?
Madoka is a middle-school girl, the guy from Tokyo Ghoul is a 19 year old dude who blushes like a retard from every generic school romance show ever when he talks with his childhood friend about a girl he likes, who rather has the right to be a crybaby? I was totally fine with him crying about what happened to him by the way, but not how he was before. It's like in nearly every Shounen. And with Shounen speeches I meant his monologue at the end of the episode, it felt so forced and cheesy when he yelled how he's human and stuff.

Also the description of the show is laughable. The people in the episode seemed rather normal considering the fact that murdering ghouls are killing and eating people every day and night. Where was the suspense and terror?

Nothing he says is forced or cheesy considering the situation, it seems like something anyone would say. Also judging by what the policeman says the general populace does not consider ghouls human that even further reinforces that point, i.e to be a ghoul is not to be a human. The way ghouls are talked about on the news and by the other people on the television suggests people are knowledgeable about ghouls and quite possibly numb to their existence.

Now you might ask where I am going with that, but if I am correct, a ghoul killing someone is normal, so there will obviously be a lack of suspense and terror when it happens. What seems to rattle them is the binge eaters, which would be like serial killers for us. As for being embarrassed talking about a girl he likes.. I don't really see the big deal with it. It was kinda annoying but at the same time it's just an anime thing really.

I think Pierrot is doing a marvelous job, let's see how much they'll be able to keep it up.
It's still too soon to give a proper judgment but it's interesting so far, also the OST is quite outstanding, the composer did really do only this?

I give it two more episodes to decide if it worth buying the manga or not

While the pacing was a bit rushed, I still found the episode enjoyable as a manga reader. The one thing I have to nitpick is how quickly they made Kaneki lose his shit. It's like he just found out he was a ghoul and then he just lost his mind. In the manga more and more things keep happening to him and he just caves into pressure and stress.
Another thing I didn't like was the knife scene. In the manga he had an actual reason to do so, misguided as it was. He wanted to cut himself open so the transplanted organ would fall out, hoping to get a new transplant and hopefully turning back into a human. In the anime he just seemed pointlessly suicidal.

I think you could still understand the knife scene even if they did cut some of Kanekis inner monologues, they rushed but the episode was still good, the monologues really added to the tension.

Yeah, but what if he wasn't? He could've just stabbed his arm/hand or something, or even just cut it. If he wasn't a ghoul in the anime then that would just be him being stupid and resulting in him probably dying like an idiot, but in the manga he has a reason to stab in that particular spot.

No clue, I was kinda wondering that myself but I suppose they are going to just chalk it up to state of mind and making the scene dramatic.

2-cour is possible ?

They showed the contents from 60+ chapters in the PV so 2-cours is the best way to adapt it and I'm pretty sure Pierrot is serious with this one judging by the visuals and the staff.

This anime will be big, things really picked up in the 60th chapters onwards so if they did this right, we'll have one hell of an ending to the season and people demanding a 2nd season just like Shingeki no Kyojin. :P

Anyway, it's a very solid first episode. I can see this turning out to be super good. Love the premise too.

Can't wait to see how this develops, keeping his humanity or becoming a full blown ghoul in the end.

Anyway, that ep was alright, not better than I expected nor worse. I'm surprised this came from pierrot... I honestly don't get how they're still in business, they aren't even that good at animating(in my experience).

This seems pretty gory, after finishing Kill la Kill I think I'm in the mood for something dark like this. And Black Butler is coming up, so it'll be extra depressing summer for me haha.

i haven't read the manga but if there are ghouls running around eating humans and they take on a human form, shouldn't the humans be more wary of their surroundings and who they're interacting with? the mc saw a nice girl and he just asked her out like it was no big deal but was most likely completely aware of the ghouls and their eating habits (he was watching the news about the "binge eater" on tv).

or is their society a society in which if you don't mess with the ghouls, then they won't mess with you?

i guess these questions will be answered later.

Naruto was my first big anime, and having not watched it for so long, I'd forgotten just how good some of the fight scenes were. That youtube video reminded me of why i really was so damn addicted to the anime when I first watched it :D. Oh god yes, Pierrot can be freaking awesome when they want to.

Sometimes I wish would stop reading the manga before the anime because I feel like I don't have an unbiased opinion towards how good it actually is. However, i liked how they did change it up a bi t because I do remember it being a little slow at the beginning of the manga. Was the first episode good though? I felt like it was (the colours and ambience was great) but idk.

They animated most of my fav scenes from the manga so I'm content with how it turned out. Kinda bummed they didn't add the "if you were to write a story, with me in the lead role...."
Futilely hopes they'll follow the manga and do more seasons instead of changing the plot and ending it.

Also for people saying it was rush compared to the manga, it's only going to be 12eps (i think) so it's expected.

I dont think its going to be a 12-13 Episode anime. My reason being is because in the trailer it showed Kaneki on some platform that is similar to him standing on in chapter 128 Page 2. It should be around 34 seconds in the video.
