THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE. ---------------------------------------- So Jagara was beautiful beneath that mask after all xP... I liked the ending song but even if this was ep 26, nothing actually ended. So I'll be watching the OVA pretty soon ^_^. |

Hm, I have mixed feelings about this series. Putting aside the lousy ending there were just some parts that didn't flow right, most of the characters were bland, and overall the series wasn't that great either. Mostly depressing. Well it still made for a good watch seeing as I did enjoy some of it. Now time for the last 4 episodes~ |

Easily the best episode of the series, and that is saying a lot. There is something about this story, I guess it is the perfect mix of fantasy with science fiction, the last episodes, the well-done characters and the outstanding soundtrack present in every episode. Overall great series, some inconsistencies and pacing issues here and there, but I would definitely rewatch it if I ran out of stuff to watch. |

I liked the ending. It was cool how Darcia sort of psyched out Jagara. No one really lost anything. I guess that's what the OVA is for :P |

Epic finishing blow by Darcia. Hubb and Cher are reunited and the group are now going to face Darcia. This series is getting an 8/10. |

This anime's cast is wonderfully diverse. English voice acting was flawless and the story is breathtaking. The fighting animation was amazing, even the backgrounds were never bad. One of the best animes I've watched, truthfully. 9/10 if not 10/10 from me. |

Aww I'm glad Quent still loves Blue, after all, she really was his family. He was kind of in denial when Blue told him the truth, but I'm sure the truth will take time to sink in. So Jagara is Harmona's twin...and she wanted to go to paradise because she wanted to be with Darcia, she wasn't seeking more power or anything as I had thought before. I guess it really is just because she thinks it's a better place. It's almost like paradise is some sort of illusion that deluded people who know of it to think that their world is a sucky place. Well it kind of is with the noble system and all, but if you're a noble, it's not like you're living a hard life or anything, not sure why they want to reach paradise so badly when it's supposed to be for wolves. Well I know this series doesn't just end here, but since it's the last episode before the OVAs, I have to say, it was a pretty good ending considering how so many people reunite with each other (Cher and Hubb, Blue and Quent, Cheza and Kiba + co.). I wasn't sure if I would like this anime, but I do like it, the world is so intriguing and I ended up liking most of the main cast, even Toboe, who I thought was a little annoying at first. |

Someone up there "most of the characters were bland" What the heck? The characters are the BEST part in this anime, even more so than the music. Dafuq? Anyway, as another post said, 4 episodes (15-18) were lost to recaps because the studio stopped for 4 weeks supposedly because of the SARS pandemic in 2003 when the series was ongoing or something, from what I knew. But the contract with the TV channel was only for 26 episodes. So the "OVAs" are actually what shold've been the last 4 episodes, and the recap eps were just rushed in. |

I don't rate this without the OVAs because it's part of the experience. But this is my third time watching it. I love this series. It's once of my favorites and one of the few I actually bought the box set for. 8/10 |

Well, it was definitely good the entire way through. I think my feelings are mixed due to not finishing it when I started it the first time a long time ago and from my expectations from things I'd heard. Either way it was good, albeit the ending was pretty strange. It was a decent finale, but none of this was hinted at with Jagura and whatnot... I'm not sure I like that she was randomly the twin of Darshia's love, and with the poisoned sword it kind of felt like I was watching a reenactment of Macbeth. Can't say it was a disappointment, I just wanted to be able to give it a 10/10, but I think with this it has to be an 8/10 for now. I do realize the OVAs are the true ending though, and that makes me pretty happy because I have something to look forward to tomorrow. And so I'll definitely wait to give my final rating until I've watched the OVAs as well. I just really hope a lot is explained... which 4 episodes should be ample time for it... so I'll keep my hopes high. |

A series that could have been great, and it has everything that could make it so, Yoko Kanno, Bones, etc. Unfortunately, Cheza's involvement put a halt to the ever growing potential that this series once had. I loved the chemistry within the main group of 4 wolves, after she joined, the chemistry was disturbed and it felt pretty weird, mainly from Kiba's obsession with Cheza, and how he never bothered to question anything related to Cheza. The forced romantic/almost romantic relationship development was also terrible, between Kiba and that girl in his dream, Hige and Blue, and to a certain extent, Hubb and Cher. I really liked Hubb and Cher at first, and while I still kinda do, I feel that their relationship could have been expanded past Hubb's sexual desire for Cher. You know what Hubb was reminded of when he thought of Cher after she left him with the key to her house? He thought of the kiss. Yes, he was clearly sexually frustrated. Later on, whenever he thought of her, he would only recall Cher's physical attraction. That is fine and all, but it sucks that that's all their relationship is amount to. Hige and Blue's was forced. Kiba and that girl's was out of nowhere. This series also has a shit tons of inconsistencies. Wolves being able to communicate with other species of animals just feel very very weird, especially when the said animal is one of their source of food. There's also this thing with how some people can see the true form of the wolves, even when they were using illusion(?), that's just lazy and convenient for the sake of plot. I have a feeling there was a lot more, but I can't recall it right now. Oh ya, did I mention the advanced technology that the nobles/soldiers use? Lol, that's so ahead of their time. |

Ending ruined the entire series.. Hmm 7 or 8 i guess but it depends entirely on the ovas if i rate it an 8 or not. But damn this was lousy as fuck.. And there are a lot of loose ends besides the ending.. Like why can they all suddenly see them in wolf form? Felt random each episode.. The relationship between cheza.. Still nothing got explained there and kiba was just plain annoying and selfish each time ^^" tsume is awesome tho |

Had to take an over 2 week break from watching this after watching 18 episodes in a 6 day period. Honestly, this was very meh. You have main characters that are hollow husks that the story forbids from having any sort of background to or future really, besides Kiba. The other 3 main characters are just there for the sole purpose of backing up Kiba. I don't really understand what the writer was trying to make Cheza out to be to the wolves. Cheza is obviously portrayed as a mother figure for the four wolves but a lot of scenes and the way Kiba inherently obsesses over her, suggests that while acting as a mother figure she also doubles as a "girlfriend" (there's no romance, but I can't really find the word to explain a female that isn't a motherly figure, or other family figure but is still overwhelming important to a person far more so than the other three characters) figure or some other romantic stand in to Kiba. That's not even all, each character has a singular personality, that when you put all four together, forms a "whole" character. Tomoe has the brains, Kiba has the fighting ability. Hige has the intuition, and Toboe has the playful nature, or carefree personality. Simply put, you replace all four with just one actual complete character and the story and everything else does not change. Of course it wouldn't, no one of the main characters have a unique background or contribution to the story that the other three don't share or couldn't act as a complete stand in for that character so their removal from the story couldn't possibly alter anything. Each main character, apart from Tomoe being less likely to use humans as tools for his own purpose now, is exactly the same as they were at the start of the show. Kiba is the "chosen one" but beyond his obsessive personality, even with the 4 episode OVA standing between here and the finish line, you can still rewrite the story with Tomoe, Hige or Toboe as the chosen one because Kiba has yet to be shown why he is the "chosen" one behind being told he is the chosen one. Would have been better if it was just four wolves with equal value as main characters and no Cheza at all. I just don't get how the writer obviously knows how to do characterization and does provide a lot of background to so many side characters, but can't be fucked to do the same for the four main stars of the show. |

WolfWood37 said: WTF was with the alien ships at the beginning? When did this go full sci-fi? Did not like that addition to the show. This was full on sci-fi from the very first episode when the noble ship flew overhead. And remember, according to the "Native Americans", all humans EXCEPT the Nobles descended from wolves. Anyway, that stuff at the beginning actually looked like a space elevator to me. Maybe "Paradise" is on the space station at the top (lol probably not). Now I need to watch the OVAs. |

Finally got to "finish" a anime out of my childhood (yes I know the OVA are still next on the list ;) ) but somehow I couldn't enjoy it as much as I would like to. I remember the time when I got to watch the first four episodes (10+ years ago? XD honestly no idea), I was so impressed with the storys and the characters but somehow I lost the love for this anime along the way. It's difficult for me to pinpoint the exact reason, maybe it has been because of the many sidetracked storys and additionally introduced characters (Jagara felt so..out of place I'm sorry. Was she really necessary?). The story for sure felt way to dragged (not looking forward to the fact that I have to watch additional 4 episodes) I give it a 6, but mostly because I have fond memories of the anime. If not for these I fear I would have rated it even lower But I'm happy Hige stays my favorite after so many years. Hige + Blue <3 |

I don't normally watch the English dub of an anime but this one was praised quite a bit so I gave it a try, definitely fantastic. The fights were brutal, it always hurt me to see the wolves get hurt aswell. Definitely a fantastic anime, story was great. Will have to watch the final 4 episodes to really know how I feel about it but for now 8/10 *Make that a 9/10 after finishing it, such a beautiful story. |

The final confrontation between Jaguara and Darcia reveals that she was Hamona's sister all along. Okay then. Still, not even a poisoned dagger could put Darcia down. Hige set Toboe and Tsume free whilst also spilling his guts out about leading them into a trap - despite not knowing anything himself. I think that reveal was only added to give him a heroic self-sacrifice (attempt) moment. Idk. Blue told Quent about Kyrios and got good 'le cuddles in the end. Aww, how sweet. Last, but by no means least, Kiba got super strong, broke free of his bindings and reunited with Cheza, murdering Jaguara beforehand, lol. Anyway, on to the ova eps now, since that is where the true ending of the series is, sigh |

Really not what it's cracked out to be, I thought everything other than the animation and sound were painfully average. A long, drawn out journey which unfortunately dragged sometimes (not as bad as something like Utena), plus the four shitty recaps. Only characters I thought were good were the humans lol, couldn't care less about most of the nobles (except Darcia), the wolves were classic archetypes that had some superficial development later on in the series, usually thanks to a single moment (Toboe fighting the Walrus, Hige right at the end of the series, Tsume's was early and probably felt the most natural as he gradually accepted the journey and where he was), Kiba was just a fucking clown for most of it "Paradise this, Cheza that", yeah, I get it. Worst character in the whole series. If you're going with themes of identity, existentialism and what not, at least make the characters enjoyable. 6/10 for mediocrity and missed potential. Kind of reminds me of Deadman Wonderland, in that sort of way, another series that should have been something more IMO. |

Man, what an amazing anime, the story is very good, the soundtracks are very good, there are few animes that you want to have all the music, the characters are very good with incredible and diverse personalities. The anime had several very good references throughout the story, I will mention a few, the wolves stop looking for paradise and become slaves, slaves of others and themselves, Tsume treating humans with coldness and that returning to him, Kiba being the stubborn hero to find Paradise, being honorable and such, blue fighting a part of himself, being shown as being half wolf, hunting wolves, going along with that we have the old man who blames the wolves but loves a wolf that would be blue, love not in the romantic sense, we have all the couples thing with Hubb and Cher. Dude has many analogies that if I want to cite them all I'll have to watch the anime slowly and annotate one by one, this enriches the story. The ending is open, but it has 4 OVAs that end, probably at the time this was planned, so you can't put the blame on the end, since even if it didn't have the OVAs it would still be an amazing ending. 8/10 |

Original Notes of 2014: An anime that I've had in my plan to watch list for years, and only gained the spark to give it a try when Johnny Yong Bosch claimed it as one of his most favorite and best anime's he's worked in. ...I feel like it's weird to explain since there's so many things in this story. There's some kind of goddess, and wolves are supposedly extinct since 200 years ago, and they're the only ones who know the destination of 'paradise', in a world of conspiracy. Or simple war I guess. I love Toboe's pure kind character. [Episode 2:] Cheza is finally freed. [Episode 5:] It seems that they found the destination of paradise but from the wolf citizens paradise is actually junk. And their job in that city is wolf labor. In actuality though, it Episode 6 they show that the elder wolf's past experience, the tunnel to paradise was toxic. [Episode 7:] Kiba and Cheza meet for the first time but it feels like their soul-mates. A rather slow pace in the story and not super entertaining. The beginning was intriguing but it's taking a while. But starting episode 11 shit gets real. [Episode 11:] The noble kidnaps Cheza and defeats the wolves when they were close. [Episode 12:] Darshia cracks. And blue joins the gang, she's actually a female half-wolf. I think Quent's family was killed by wolves which is why he chases them. And Hubb is still searching for Cher. They head to Darsha's castle to get back Cheza. [Episode 13:] Hubb finds Cher and they go to Darshia's castle as well. [Episode 14:] Kiba and the Darshia fight. And Cheza is kidnapped once more. [Episode 15:] Tsume's recap. [Episode 16:] Toboe's recap. [Episode 17:] Hige's recap. [Episode 18:] The Human's recap. They weren't so bad because it gets you a better understanding of what the characters went through and how they feel. [Episode 19:] Most of everyone got separated, and Hige/Tsume/Toboe met Indians. Kiba seems to be in paradise, with a lynx called Myuu. So they go in search of Kiba, but Toboe doesn't seem to want to. [Episode 20:] Kiba was paralyzed by the smell of a grass with his spirit being somewhere else. Toboe asks a favor from the Indian to rescue Quent. [Episode 21:] The gang goes to fight Jagara, and Cher and Hubb rescue Cheza and Blue, but then Hubb and Cheza get transported by a ship. And the soldiers are helping the wolves. [Episode 22:] A walrus attacks the gang when they're crossing an ice flow, and Toboe fiercely kills it! [Episode 23:] They've arrived to Jagara's keep and are headed to save Cheza. Hige seems to be traumatized by Lady Jagara for some unknown reason. [Episode 24:] Blue finds out what actually happened to Quent's hometown. Tsume notices frozen real wolves like a figurine in Jagara's keep w the same collar as Hige. [Episode 25:] Hige seems to be a traitor or maybe he brought trouble to the past wolves who died because of him... Everyone's trapped and in deep shit and Hige will try to save them. --While Darshia comes to mess things up. So Kiba is the Chosen Wolf, and with the Flower Maiden he's supposed to lead the way to paradise and rule the world, that's his destiny. But Jagara wants to steal that away and make the nobles be ruler of the world. [Episode 26:] Darshia vs. Amana's older sister, Tsume and Toboe finally get out with Hubb and Hige going out somewhere. Blue then finally finds Quent. It was a cute heartwarming scene, made me laugh. Everybody teams up and Darcia kills Jagara. But they still gotta find paradise. __ The fighting sequences are pretty awesome. And the slice of life moments where they simply talk is comforting in a pleasing way of enjoyment. Even if they're little, if you take it deeply the moments are really worth while where the characters interact and you easily come to love them for every moment. __ I'll give it a 9/10, I think it did everything right in its story, but that doesn't mean its one of my most favorite anime but it was a great experience. Not amazing but great. It was different from most animes that I watch, and it wasn't mind-blowing or anything but it was a great anime worth watching for what it is. --A lot of English music soundtrack btw, didn't really click with me but the original soundtrack is interesting, I liked it. |

No opening this episode, true season finale style. Jaguara turned out Hamona's evil twin, you will not be missed. Darcia got done dirty with that poisoned dagger. Supposedly his aim is Paradise for everyone. Hubb and Cher reunited, wonder if they can make it last. Yoko Kanno blessed us with a new ending song. A lot of loose ends tied, I think that was as good as time allowed for, give some love to the director. On to the OVA... |
