Yay!
Let's make the ghost disappear and make everyone cry...what a fuckin' joke.
A good 1st half, an absolutely disastrous 2nd half. Asspull, cheap melodrama, Tokyo Magnitude 8.0 was ultimately a big disappointment. It never recovered from the plotquake in ep 8; instead went worse and worse.

Quite different from the usual anime I tend to watch but this was great regardless. They got me to like Yuuki most of all and then they kill him off. It really did a good job at showcasing the loss and devastation that comes with a disaster like this. One thing that surprised me was how helpful people were. I mean, there were some obnoxious ones but after the actual quake, everyone was so organized and peaceful. I expected a bit more chaos.

The way they started hinting that something was wrong since Mirai woke up from her "dreams" and then gradually built up to the reveal was also well done. I didn't want to accept it until they got back to the school. Anyway, the series was a bit slow at times but overall it got to it's conclusion quickly and was a touching story. 8/10

Just finished it and this whole episode i just cried. It's a really different anime and I loved it, but the ending was just amazing. It made me cry and laugh and got me feeling so many emotions. I really loved how you had the sense that Yuuki wasn't alive for those few episodes, and I was completely baffled throughout them, wondering if Yuuki was alive or not. The representation of Mirai's grief was really powerful and I've just fallen in love with this anime. I really do hope to see another anime like this because, it's one of a kind. 8/10 for me.

Omg wow now I have to tell every own about this anime haha. This was one of the best things I have ever watched. Could not stop watching it until I finished it. I seriously cried so much I cried more than in clannad after story. People thinly that's sad (it is XD) but I cried a lot more in this. Especially this last episode. My mom watched it with me and she's super picky and we both cried. She said it was so beautiful and sweet.
I seriously loved this so much I can't believe I didn't give it a chance before.
This is on the top saddest series I've ever seen

Yuki died from concussion ,that cause by internal bleeding due to trauma during the time he save her sister from the falling tokyo tower. Yuki got hit hard with a brick on his head...

which brings to the point how negligent both her sister and Mari is, should have brought yuki for further check up the first thing after the injuries...he could have survived.....

her sister and mari should be charge be negligent crimes....

Would've rated 10/10, but the poor handling of Yuuki's death and the lack of camera time the parents got undermined it for me. So 8.5 out of 10, rounded to 9.

Arghhhhhhh! Im pissed...I didnt like the anime at all until the end when they pulled the tearjerker ending because Yuki was the only character I liked he was such a good kid. Worst part is since I didnt like the anime I had the tv on in the background and thought I missed something. Because of Maris sad face, her reaction to when they separation from Mirai, the fact that she didnt flip out at Mirais enthusiastic attitude when they were searching for her family...the flashbacks and the like. I didnt piece it together until about episode 10 both because I was alternating my focus between the anime and tv, and because Ive seen otjer shows pull off this ending before and didnt think theyd go this route too.

When she found out he died I was in disbelief myself because I saw him run off "no the damn kid just ran away why arent you looking for him? He was just here!" So in a way I was going through a slight denial as she was. The early signs of his death were there and I was conscious of them but I just refused to believe it until I actively started thinking about them all at once. I just didnt believe Id see the sixth sense again, mostly because I didnt want to. Maybe I just wanted to fool myself that he wouldnt die for a bigger emotional payoff, whereas before episode 9 I thought this was a pretty boring anime. I can say the ending saved it for me.

But Im still pissed because I dont like feelings.

yes this too. They completely sidestepped this in the show too. Yuki didnt know any better but Mirai must have, and definitely Mari. The latter at least should feel guilt. idiots.

So with Yuki's head problem... Could part of the problem been when he was at the mall and the shelf fell on him? Or was it only from Tokyo Tower falling?
Ah, such a depressing anime... Especially episode 11. I cried in episode 5 (or maybe 6?) when the old man had lost his grandchildren, and then when Yuki died.

right in the feels, no words to describe.

A good ending, would be no drama if it hadn't a death, although I did not expect yuuki to be the one who die, we'll remember you Yuuki :'(

Dont get why people are blaming Mari, she did not even see that the bricks fell on yuukis head...she met them later..and all this time yuuki seemed ok. And as for mirai she is a middle schooler and still a child and it is an extraordinary situation..one of those situations no one can be blamed...
but yes...Yuuki was the best character in this show and when he died i bawled my eyes out. Zhe last episode showed again what a fine boy he was...damn.
this was handled very well.

Many people are saying this is the sadest show they ever saw but I think Clannad: After Story is mutch worse to the point of being bad.

There were maybe five minutes in which I was not heavy-dutyy crying. Can't even express my thoughts critically 'cause I'm too busy being devastated over fictional children. What a good kid.

It kinda makes me think about my own family. How much do express my appreciation for them in a healthy manner? Anything could happen. Dammit.

Yes, I've read up to the latest chapter of Shingeki No Kyojin manga.
Forced myself to read through the kidsketching chapters after the anime's ended. At least from now on, I only have to go through the hell once a month.
Patiently awaiting SNK TV/movie/OVA anime-sequel.

Denial is a powerful emotion. It's interesting to see Mirai still imagining Yuuki around that much later.

Good start, dragging middle, and decent end. I feel like the crying scenes were actually handled rather well. The text message was a nice touch too. I'm not seeing any plotholes or buttpulls like some have mentioned, so unless someone wants to better point them out to me...

(+) Good premise
(+) Realistic characters
(+) Good theme exploration (hardship, desperation, denial)
(+) Conclusive ending

(•) So-so directing (some good, some bad)
(•) Decent OST

(-) Some bad pacing
(-) Parents left undeveloped/unexplored
(-) Indistinct character designs (aka 5 faces syndrome)

Overall 7/10.

Could not stop crying during this episode, it was heartwarming and heartbreaking at the same time :( Despite the middle few episodes being a bit slow, the series was really good. Mirai's growth was excellent and Yuuki's death honestly shocked me. I was so happy Mari reunited with her family and Mirai with her parents. 9/10

Worst parents ever.

Shouldn't they go and find their children? Sure, the dad was hurt, and all methods of transportation were unavailable, and it'd be a better idea to wait for somebody to find the children and take them home, but if they truly love their children and care for them, shouldn't they be looking for them? Heck, why did they let the kids go alone to a distant place by themselves, in the first place? It's common sense, or rather, a normal thing to do when a loved one is in danger.

And in the ending, omg. Their fucking SON died. They were too busy being happy that their daughter was safe, no fucks given to the son until Mirai starts crying.

The parents ruined the show imo.

Everyone in this thread is crying their eyes out and here I am just sitting here like a sad sack with no tears to shed. I just HAD to deplete my tear reservoirs before the ultimate pain-train that is the last episode of Tokyo Magnitude 8.0. Dammit.

This was really sad last episode but I couldn't cry for the life of me. Now I feel like I'm a bad person.

For a bittersweet ending, it was really good. I just don't know how to rate this episode because I don't know if I would have cried even if I did have any tears left to shed.

Good anime.

Solid 7/10. This anime did a good job at developing Mirai. By the end, she was no longer a spoiled brat.

No. Maybe you just can't connect with fictional character's well enough to get that kind of response. I personally kinda have it other way around. Real people's distress doesn't cause a response most of the time but i really easily cry for fictional characters.

But anyways. Personally i really enjoyed the show despite it being cliched in some ways and despite the writers putting so much effort trying to make audience cry.

I've just had the most surreal experience regarding this episode. The ending made me tear some and it was really sad. I started thinking about the massive destruction displayed in the animation and how it relates to real life. The story felt like it could be real, it could exist, and for that I cried.

Immediately after finishing this show, I went to wash my face after all the crying - yet I hear sirens going off outside. I go outside and sure enough a house 3 houses down from me is on fire BURNING DOWN!! I stared outside with many others at the raging flame while firefighters were trying to calm it down. At that moment in time my mind was frozen, after watching such an emotional anime, something as crazy as a full raging fire burning a house down happens outside.

This duo experience has impacted in a dramatic way mentally. I can no longer think to complain about any issues that I may have with my life. I can only accept life the way it is and to be happy with what I have. It was just too surreal...

Well, this series managed to hit me deeply. Maybe, the dramatic resources were repetitive and the fact the little instances of tension always tended to get resolved with no major consequences could harm the involvement at some points. However, the reveal about Yuuki was delivered pretty well in episode 10, and this episode was a wonderful catharsis to end the story in a high note.

Regardless of its main topic, how it deals with tragedy and desperation stemming from a natural catastrophe, I think that this series is more often heartwarming than it is melodramatic, that it is more about the good than the bad. Not only due to the clear coming of age vibes of Mirai's journey, but also in a bigger scale. I see this series as a visceral and outright heartfelt declaration of love. To the city of Tokyo, the streets, the people and their daily issues. Maybe it was the opening and the ending with their walk through different points of the city, maybe the focus on details, on people trying to lift up after the tragedy and making efforts to restore the statu quo on their lives; or the beautiful ending credits for this last episode. But everything in it looks like a sincere tribute from an author that not only wanted to narrate the precise events of an earthquake but to add the human dimension and their own emotional attachment.

This series is great. Not a master work, but it got close. And it is definitely not just a survival story to me. Though, as a survival story, it is outstanding enough. 9/10
