You contacted me first, lol. You must've opened Discord, messaged me, and immediately closed it again, haha.

I don't read/watch Hunter x Hunter. :o

I noticed. I said happy birthday to you on Discord, and you never replied again, lol.

You can kinda tell that you're used to newer era horror games, in that case. Silent Hill and Resident Evil are both pioneers of the horror genre (though you'd never guess nowadays, since both series have been doing really shit up until RE7), and they're both known for having combat. Clunky combat, mind you, but combat, nevertheless... A lot of people were extremely worried about RE7 because of how long it took for them to show any fighting. It was extremely relieving to see big boss fights, in the end. Wouldn't be Resident Evil without them.

I would also recommend Condemned. Both of those games were really awesome horror experiences, and Condemned 2 had an insanely brutal melee combat system. I kinda wanna recommend FEAR, as well, but 3 was awful, I hear 2 was dumb, and it's been yeeeeeaaars since I've played the original. It might not hold up, considering how old it is now.

I'm just an old man, though. I haven't even played Outlast for more than an hour. Haven't even touched Amnesia either, though I'd be interested to try that one.

Slender was kinda fun until small children ran it into the ground and killed it from ever being scary again. I even thought FNAF was kinda interesting, when I first saw it.

Fite me.

That's... interesting, tbh. Actually feels like the same style as Kill la Kill, which is impressive in its own right.

I'm actually super disappointed you feel that way, tbh. RE7 was the first time in awhile that I've purchased a game and actually found it really fun, and I powered through the whole thing in a single weekend because I was actually enjoying myself. I got Doom, Mirror's Edge, and Final Fantasy XV around Christmas time, and I still can't be assed to beat any of them because I feel like I'm only really playing them because I felt invested and obligated before I even started.

RE7, on the other hand, is exactly what I've been wanting from a Resident Evil game since after 4. It's been so long since I've played a big budget horror game that actually had some kind of emphasis on combat as opposed to just running away from everything. Bosses were great, atmosphere was superb, and almost every mechanic in RE7 was something that was making a return from the first 4 games. It was exactly what I needed.

That, and some of your complaints are actually extremely strange. The house is unrealistically huge? A giant mansion with interconnected pathways and elaborate puzzles was a staple of the very first game. And the fact that you're complaining about a lack of jumpscares is also strange, considering jumpscares are literally everyone's least favorite thing about horror games, since they're the cheapest and easiest way to actually get a rise out of the player. Actual atmosphere is infinitely more important, and RE7 has that in spades.

And Ethan talks to the cop for less than 1 minute out of the entirety of the game. That seems extremely petty. Especially when Resident Evil is basically famous for dialogue like:

or this:

Seriously, RE is an American B horror movie as interpreted by Japanese people. The dialogue and the story have always been extremely hammy and ridiculous. That's part of what makes it different than Silent Hill, which borrows many of its mechanics from RE.

It's a horror game that understands that being armed doesn't mean you're in control, like old RE and SH games did. It's a game that understands that a dark tone doesn't mean the game has to be completely void of any levity or fun. Some of the story beats don't connect as well as they should, but this is as deserving of its place in the Resident Evil series as 1, 2, 3, CV, Rev, and 4. It makes me extremely happy to see one of my favorite series from my childhood actually doing well, instead of crashing and falling apart like Metal Gear Solid currently is.

Sweaters are bae. I'll fite u.

That link is broken, lol.

Lol, that analogy is a little disingenuous. Nintendo is the monolith of gaming, period. They have more classic titles and more fans than basically any other portion of gaming combined. Blizzard and Riot are famous for like a handful of things, but they're still quite niche. There isn't anyone who's a gamer who hasn't played and loved some kind of Nintendo game though.

That being said, the creators are incredible inventive and adventurous people, who are industry icons for a reason. They've done more for games than anyone could really ask of them.

Nintendo as a company, on the other hand, is run by a bunch of out of touch businessmen who want to treat their consumers like retards and milk them for all they're worth. Nintendo may own some of the best creators, but they're actually one of my least favorite companies because of how insultingly stupid they are.

All the more reason why I'm drifting further and further away from brand loyalty lately. After what happened with Hideo Kojima and Konami, I stopped giving a shit about the companies making the games, and now I try my hardest to focus on the people putting in the work and care. I want the Switch to do well, but only because it's an innovative piece of admittedly weak hardware that can bring a lot of great games into the market. Which is something the market really needs, because it's been stagnant in recent years.

Just glad the new Resident Evil did well... I was really aching for Resident Evil to be good again.

Is that sweater supposed to be a meme or something? It's fucking everywhere all of a sudden, lol.

And the Switch itself looks fine. I'm worried about some of the crap coming with it though. Nintendo is finally moving to paid online, which they haven't even proven they can handle, because every Nintendo system has the worst online functionality. Everything on Nintendo systems takes marginally longer than it takes on every other system. Don't even get me started on trying to play games...

Not to mention the fact that PS+ and XBL offer free games every month to try and compensate for paid online. What's Nintendo offering? A Virtual Console game for one month. A MONTH. Like, wtf are you doing Nintendo? You're gonna let me pay to rent a 30 year old ROM that I could easily emulate? That's objectively a worse deal than EVERY other system, and they expect fans to be thankful for it.

They're so out of touch that it's embarrassing, because they'll walk on stage, offer a shit deal that their competitors can destroy without question, and pat themselves on the back like they're geniuses.

And that's not even getting to the fact that it's only launching with like, 5 games, which is abysmal for a console.

I want the Switch to do well, but they need to figure their shit out before it turns into another WiiU.
sdklanhlnahf Jan 25, 2017 2:39 PM
Don't worry about it. You're not really bothering me or anything by having problems. Especially when they're problems I recognize. It sucks when your family literally refuses to listen to what's important to you.

And computer games? Not any big plans still, but I do intend at some point to maybe get the Nintendo Switch. I have a love/hate feeling towards it, but I have a good feeling about the games this time around. Especially the new Zelda. I've never gotten hyped for a Zelda game in my life.
sdklanhlnahf Jan 23, 2017 12:08 PM
I wish I had some way to be in more reliable contact with you, tbh. I understand what you're going through and I wish I could be around more to be more helpful, lol.

I would've gone insane without the friends I had.
