Novatrip said: At the risk of being seen as a newbie to anime (-__- ;) this is an honest question I have been wondering for quite some time. The longest anime I've sat down and watched every episode of, was Naoki Urasawa's Monster; which has 74 episodes. I've also seen a large chunk of episodes from Naruto, but that's because I used to watch it weekly on Toonami when I was a kid. Although I doubt I could marathon all 220 episodes, then continue on to watch Shippuden; just thinking about that seems overwhelming.
The majority of anime's I do watch range from 12 - 50 episodes normally. Although lately I've been curious, as to what it is like to watch something really long and see what all the hype is about. My biggest concern would be starting the anime, then not finishing it because it's too long.
So if any of you have or do watch really long anime series, why and how do you do it? Is it preferable for an anime to have a ton of episodes?
Thanks!
I haven't watched that many anime that are very long. Only one's I can recall now are Dragon Ball Z, One Piece (dropped anime awhile ago), Naruto (dropped anime awhile ago), Bleach (dropped anime awhile ago).
Extremely long anime (like 300+ episode ones) I usually can't get into. If you have that much material its usually bound to get repetitive or boring at some point. Or just deliver inconsistent entertainment. Like for example in One Piece, I find some arcs of the series I really like, but then there are whole arcs (usually the # of eps of a normal anime series) that I either hate or don't like at all. I just think its difficult for creators/studios to deliver the same quality (and especially refreshing) content if it goes on for that long.
I love it when an anime or a manga can get entertain and you don't have to spend an insane amount of time to enjoy all the content in it. Like 50 or less episodes, max 100 or so eps.
Just an extra tidbit: Even with very long anime, its not extremely difficult to catch up with it if you are smart with your time and you are patient. You have 365 days in a year, you can watch at least one episode per day, and there will likely be vacation days where you watch much more than that. I actually watched/read the last half of one piece in summer 2012 in only about a 2 month period, with having a full time job and going out with friends once a week.
I think it all comes down just to how much you like a show and how much time you have. If you start watching a long one and you enjoy it a lot, you put the time in to catch up with it or finish it. Personally I don't have that much patience anymore for long running shows like that. |
