Man, say what about 9S but he's got iron balls. Injuried but still trying to fufill his duty as a soldier.

Episode played out like a mission from the game with an objective. A2 is still so amusing to watch at seeing her reactions to the robots. Cool to also see the Machine Village just like from the game. One that that still impresses me about this anime is its setting and the way its built. There's the serene villages and then the ruined cities and wastelands.

And we are back again. Fortunately, it didn't take too long.

Very emotional episode again. 9S has gone totally mad.

Finally we’re back! Missed this last week. A2 best girl, honestly even better in the anime. People were so worried about the anime being able to capture the game, but in many ways it’s surpassed it with the characterisation it gives to A2. She had a ton of fans already, but we never saw this side of her due to how the game was paced.

Poor thing though, they got her out here running a daycare service. the machines asking her to take them to the bathroom had me crying man, she was really about to crash out. Despite her protests though A2 is an amazingly kind person who as we saw in her backstory episode has just been forced to alter her personality to cope with the harsh reality of the world.

Throughout this episode we have a dichotomy between her regaining her humanity and warm personality she once had and 9s losing his, slowly descending deeper into madness. It’s a brilliant tale of two sides episode that’s heartbreaking to watch, but beautifully done narratively. Just when 9s thought he couldn’t lose anything else, you take away operator as well and have her sacrifice herself to protect him 😭 no wonder he snapped on the machines in the factory. Hate seeing him like this

Love the Devola and Poppola endcards.. week 50 of asking for a Nier replicant anime now..

These androids with their brocon.

That machine lifeform intensely hugging A2's leg, represents the Nier Automata fans.

The combat suit have some excessively bulky footwear.

The illustrations of Devola and Popola Automata Shopping I need them.

Today felt like kind of a slow episode, but it still had some nice moments. A2 bonding and protecting the Machine Village, while 9S continues his crusade against all machines.

Maybe next week will end on a cliffhanger just before he enters the Tower. Also, it's interesting that they changed 21O's role and had her die here.

Good to see this return and while this wasn't the most action-packed episode, still a lot to see right here with 9S and A2 almost having a role-reversal here with 9S just killing machine lifeforms mercilessly without a care in the world (even those who are not hostile towards him whatsoever and are in fear with his actions), and A2 being more caring or building some kind of bonds with the innocent machine lifeforms in Pascal's village and with her tsundere side, wanting to protect them when it seems like massive danger is approaching them. Her interactions with Pascal and the kids were quite amusing to watch, the anime does capture the fun, unique side of Pascal's village really well with its characters and philosophies. Loads of nice little backgrounds too. Also, bonus point for hearing Emil's shop song in some capacity in the anime, although it was for a Pascal scene here with preparing for battle and calming the kids down. On top of all the grief 9S had been facing with 2B, the death of 21O and other androids he knew and had some kind of relations with only made his reactions get more sinister and revenge-filled and with the objective he has to take down the 3 subunits to be able to get into the tower, his methods and reactions seem to not be stopping anytime soon.

Awesome episode that is also extremely tragic. I mean the story IS a tragedy so expect more. I liked the post credits scene but I'm pretty sure the outfits for devola and popola as well as the background were from the prequel (I hope they make that show too). A2 taking the "kids" to the bathroom was fun. She and 9S have basically reversed their characters as of this point.

I don't remember 9S meeting 21O there. So, either my memory of the second half of the game has almost completely faded (understandable since it's been years) or the anime added/changed lots of material again. Tho in this case it was a good change/addition. It shows that 9S just keeps suffering losses. Which makes his current situation more tragic and his current objective seem more justified. I love the contrast between A2 and 9S here. One used to hate machines and now ended up having to save them while the other didn't hate them before but now absolutely despises them.

The post-credits scene was longer than usual in this episode. But I didn't mind since it featured Devola and Popola! They almost played the Song of the Ancients too! It's too bad it got cut short. :( Hopefully, we'll get more Devola and Popola later. But for now, this scratches the itch. This gives me more hopium for a NieR Replicant anime someday.

@0451 You are correct, that didn't happen. The info that 21O gathered was shared by the tower when 9S first shows up and trys to hack in.

Tragic that 9s had to be the one to encounter his former advisor now hostiled. Equally tragic was 210'S fate but i guess in the end she was able to end things on her terms. Im glad that she had a much larger role in this instance though. Charming to see A2 warm up to the villagers. Lily knows exactly how to guilt trip someone lol. The pod's surveilance network sure had impressive scale. Ar this point all thats driving 9S is rage. Nice contrast of hope and rage between A2 and 9s's POV though.

I really like how A2 turned out in this adaptation. Her interactions with poopy machines is so cute, I love it. Meat Box tower was a combat stage in the game (which is fitting for a game), but I really dig this take on "meat box"

@0451 i think 9S met 21O in 3rd sub-unit tower in Amusement Park, i think it was good change since we saw her fighting near the main tower in one of the episodes. Her appearing in Amusement Park didn't make much sense now when i think about it :O

I personally think this episode is the weakest of the 2nd cour but it was still ok. I didn't like that it was switching of from sad/frustrating moments with 9S to some cringe comedy with poop/pee jokes, idk who thought it was good idea. Imo they should either dedicate entire episode for 9S and expand on some things or just move plot of A2 forward instead of keeping her this long in the Pascal's village. They already showed her flashbacks, her kind side, development and all and she already spent like 2/3 episodes there, this episode imo would've been better without comedy... just pure somber/sad atmosphere. Also in the game she wasn't even there when hostile machines attacked and just came back in the middle of an action when Pascal asked her for help, i think that it would've been better because we would see her making a choice to come back and that she actually cares instead of her being there already kinda forced by situation like in the anime. What do you think?

I love the contrast between A2 regaining her "humanity" after years in darkness versus 9S losing his due to recent pain.

A2's interactions with the machine village are very entertaining, yet also concerning, given the possibility that something could happen to the peaceful machines in the upcoming battle against the hostile machines.

Meanwhile, poor 9S continues to suffer, especially after the loss of his operator, 21O, who seemed to consider him part of her family—perhaps like a younger brother. Now, 9S is blinded by rage, indifferent to causing harm to defenseless machines. It seems like 9S could become the final villain, and he might even be partially infected by the logic virus.

This episode was not only great, but it also showed a strong contrast between A2 and 9S.

For A2, seeing her acting as the daycare lady while doing her best to look after the machine lifeforms while also being teased at by Pascal was very amusing, but it also portrayed how much she has mellowed out now compared to how we first saw her. She still gets irritated here and there, but she's become more considerate and patient.

While A2 was regaining the "human" emotions she once had, 9S was slowly going down the path where he was losing his "humanity" one step at a time. To add to his growing pile of despair, he had to see his dedicated operator, 21O, kill herself in order to save him from being butchered by a hoard of corrupt Yorha soldiers. She was corrupt herself, but she can enough sense to save him here. Sadly, it pushed him one step further into the depths of hell and it only made him delve more into the pure hatred he has for the machine lifeforms and A2, as was showcased with how merciless he was in killing every machine lifeform in the first sub-unit at the flooded city.

The post-credit segment with Devola and Popola was very cute. They should get their own permanent shopping channel with how well they promoted the weapons with such enthusiasm. =D

I really was expecting the 9s crying to laughing scene from the game but guess that takes place a bit later. This is quite different from the game ngl. We have a hell lot more of A2 scenes/interactions compared to game. For someone who was really excited for A2 in the game to be disappointed with so few scenes in the game am really enjoying this anime.

ALSO.. IS THAT FKING SONG OF THE ANCIENTS REFERENCE IN THE END. i literally went to youtube and started playing song of the ancient in the back right after the anime ended. Nier music is god tier but nothing will ever top Song of the Ancients..

Also.. is it me or has MAL viewership for Nier Automata espcailly s2 has dropped? It's been 2 days and only 20 comments.. I am pretty sure there were a lot more comments in the first season eps..

Overall a pretty good episode. 9S is going through some things and witnessing the death of his operator is only going to sink his further into despair. He's literally become a ruthless killing machine. A2 and Pascal have their hands full with the hostile Machine Lifeforms incoming. Will A2 be able to hold out until Pascal makes it back with the weapons?
