I hear this topic getting discussed very often in gaming: If you were stranded on a deserted island, and you could only bring 5 games with you to play until you die, which ones would it be?
Logic aside, it's a fun debate.

I've never heard of this being discussed in anime though. So, which 5 anime would you pick to watch from now until forever?

I would choose my personal top 5:

Nisekoi
Konohana Kitan
KonoSuba
Gochuumon wa Usagi Desu ka?
Tada-kun wa Koi wo Shinai

One Piece is all I'd need. Along with a box of tissue to collect the emotional seepage from every orifice on my physical form; including my urethra from seeing Nami's jugs post-time skip.

If I were to stay on a deserted island for who knows how long time, I would just pick 5 long anime that I haven't watched yet.

Hunter x Hunter, since its infinitly rewachable
Serial Experiments Lain, since i never get tired of it
Haruhi, for when I want to remember how it feels to have friends
Cardcaptor sakura, for when i want to feel comfy
And all of xxxHolic, for when I want to change aestethics

i think the best strat is to bring one piece or a big shounen but I feel I would get very bored with only watching shounen untill I die

Hmm, interesting thought, like Desert Island Discs on BBC R4 (they ask what music album & book you'd take to a desert island). As you're going to be stuck you want something that's going to take up your time, so my choices would be:

One Piece
Monogatari Series
To Love Ru
Fairy Tail
Hunter X Hunter 2011

They may not be my favourites and I haven't even seen One Piece yet, but think they'd keep me entertained whilst on a desert island.

Very interesting post, OP!

1. Ghost in the Shell (I'm assuming everything from the 1995 movie to the ARISE series stands as one long story)
2. Welcome to the NHK
3. Fate/Stay Night OR Fate/Zero
4. Golden Days
5. Cowboy Bebop

Isn't monogatari kinda cheating though? I mean, what's the line between each individual anime?

Obviously my top 5, so: SAO, HxH, Steins;Gate, Gintama and Death Note. Considering how much long Gintama is, I would have a long time to spend on watching them xD

Made in abyss
Gintama
Asobi Asobase
Hibike! euphonium series
Watamote

Or I will just pick five anime that are long and high rated, it doesn't matter if I've watched it or not.

So basically, you're going to watch a tutorial on how to survive there.

Wait, if I had the electricity to watch anime on some device, wouldn't I also have some means to communicate with the outside world and be rescued from the island?

As for my choice I would go with:
Detective Conan - it's so long I don't don't know if I'd survive on that island to watch till the end (if it ever ends).
Akatsuki no Yona - I wouldn't mind re-watching this a 1000 times over.
Higurashi - I wish this would have a better adaptation but the one by DEEN isn't that bad expect for the character designs (at least looks better than the VN).
And if I could swap one anime for its drama CDs then I'll take Kyo Kara Maoh drama CDs, only the ones that don't have Wolfram, I need my daily doze of Conrad to help me continue living there after all.
Can't think of any other anime.

Since im stranded in an island im gonna go for some super long anime
1.HunterXHunter (No need for an explanation)
2.One Piece (I can finally start watching it in an island with all the time I have)
3.Steins Gate (if including zero thats 47 episodes and yes infinite replayability for my favorite anime of all time)
4.Gintama (My favourite shounen is 340+ eps long so i wouldnt be bored with this one)
5.High Score Girl (Its more of a necessity in life)

Instead of bringing 5 blu-ray sets of anime I'll jsut bring my 4 Terra byte external Hard drive with around 1000 different series on it.

But if it were only 5 i'd go with:

Gintama Series
One Piece
Steins;Gate Series
Hunter x Hunter
Monogatari Series

(All because their quite long so i'll have a lot to watch before I get rescued or Killed, whichever comes first)

1. One Piece. There's so many episodes!
2. Detective Conan for the same reason.
3. Hunter x Hunter seems great and also have a lot of episodes.
4. Dr. Stone, for motivation and inspiration.
5. Jojo, just for laughs.

JoJo (even better if they eventually adapt all parts)
Gintama
Hajime no Ippo
FMA franchise (which includes original and Brotherhood)
Monogatari

All have more than "100" average TV episode length series for each franchise, while being an enjoyable experience for me.

Konosuba - Makes me laugh so hard every time

Gintama - long comedy that I haven't watched yet

Made in Abyss - especially when season 2 comes out

Avatar TLAB - I know this is cheating and it's a cartoon, but still. I can watch this show infinite times

Definitely sticking to some long forms for maximum entertainment:

1) Hunter x Hunter (2011)

3) Jojo's Bizarre Adventure
4) Naruto
